Bringing it up because of when X was saying he didn't have much room under his helmet. Also because I noticed that in your smilies the helmets are skin-tight. The construction helmet we have gives 2-3 inches of space between the outside of the helmet and the head. Caracura's dagger is 8 inches in length, which is actually on the small side for a dagger. Proto has a few seconds to react, since the laser is slightly delayed as it sinks in.))

((Well of course the top is touching his head. It would be weird if it was levitating. I'm not sure what you're talking about with the head shape, since X very obviously has a normal shaped head. I mean, are you going to say football plays all have abnormally shaped heads? Because that's what X looks like. Even his chest armor looks like football gear. As for the light, well, I don't see your point. Plenty of real life helmets have lights. And so does Zero's and we know because of cut scenes and end scenes that his helmet comes off. Where did the long wires running down come from? I never said that. Plus the people that design reploids seem to like lots of unnecessary glowing bits. What bulge are you talking about, because if it's that anime forehead thing, you should know that that is anime. It's also seen on the human characters in the series. I should mention that having the helmet separate from the head is the more logical thing to do. If the helmet gets damaged you can just take it off and replace it, vs having brain surgery to fix it. One is quick, the other puts the robot out of commission for awhile. You like to argue that designs wouldn't include anything unnecessary, which I mildly agree on, for cheaper less important robots. If you went for the design that had nothing unnecessary, reploids would look completely different. The human form is okay for humans, but it limits a robot.
That was not sarcasm. It was meant as a compliment. You are usually pretty good at seeing details, or at least demanding them from me XD ))

Maybe we need to start using visuals... Or highlighting key points... Or something... Visuals. Hm.... let me just raid L's room real quick OKAY (silver Lego sword is representing Caracura's dagger here) (Snow flake is representing Proto's wheel cutter shot) (I can't get Teddy-Proto's arm to move much) Mirrored from what I was picturing (possibly from webcam stuff), but still helpful. ((Maybe not the visible parts of his head, no. As well as some rearranging for my reference, and such. First bit: You answered your own first 'question,' as well as pointing out something I didn't notice before. [Cfrust] I know it's cartoon, but head shapes don't (usually) work that way! Second bit and following: I... don't remember seeing it coming off other than to suggest really, really bad damage, and even then all I saw was what remained of the helmet. *breaks out MMX collection disk to check something* If you're talking about the flashback at the end of X4... It looks like it's mostly just the decorative parts that are removed, like the horns. The part I was actually thinking of when X said there was no room – the little point that comes down in front of his face between his eyes and above/right near the nose – is still there, attached, among other parts that I would consider 'helmet.' Maybe the outer shell covers up some spots to keep dust and such from getting in, but I don't know if it's particularly defensive or anything. Though interestingly, it looks like the part beneath the more-decorative shell may have slats that can retract and allow access to the parts underneath. It's hard to tell from the one still picture, but it's still an interesting idea. But yeah, when it comes to discussing X's design, referencing Zero may not always be the best idea. You should know why. Might give basic ideas, but should take comparisons with a grain of salt. On the 'not having anything unnecessary' bit, I'm not sure if I said that, but if so, either I wasn't thinking so much at the time or I didn't mean it in that way. Maybe the designers will try to minimize unnecessary details, not counting human-like faces and such, but hey, nobody's perfect. Still, they'll probably try to make thinks as sturdy and efficient as they can, overall. The 'long wires' was in reference to the head-gems [and other gems]. They're usually embedded in the helmet, and otherwise they're embedded somewhere else. If the helmet was separate from the head and the helmet was removable, this would mean they'd have to connect through other means, like wires down the side or the back that plug into the rest of the system. ((I forgot that my compy's camera mirrors the image. Haven't used it in awhile. You're going to be bothered by that from now on? XDDDD GOOD. NOW TAKE A GANDER AT THEM HUGE EYES. AND HOW THEY ARE SHAPED. NOTICE HOW WEIRD IT ALL IS. HEAD SIZE TOO. Anyway, yes, they have the freaky bulging foreheads, but take a look at the side profile. I do not think they have cliff foreheads. That is the helmet. I brought up Zero as a reference to the fact that the light-up helmet does not have to be connected to the robot in question. Other examples for this are Gutsman, Timeman, Concreteman?, Splashwoman, Flashman, Gyroman, Flameman, Slashman, Clownman, King, Bass, Ballade, Terra, Saturn, Pluto, Sunstar, possibly Frostman (I'm not sure it's stated anywhere that his helmet comes off), possibly Cold Man (again, not sure his helmet comes off), possibly Brightman (ditto explanation), possibly Sagittarius, possibly Duo, and then there is Bubbleman, who seems to have an actual flashlight on his helmet. I went looking around to see if I could find any official statements on the hair. I can't quite say I did, because I found a statement from an admin on a discussion board saying that X indeed had hair, but the style and color had never been chosen, but that it probably resembled Megaman's. They provided no references though, so. In the mangas X's helmet comes off, and I personally feel the way you're going puts X in the uncanny valley. I'd let Glyph argue this, but she has no concept of squick =p Back to the undisputed parts of the helmet that are not attached to X's head because it would restrict movement- easier to keep clean if the entire helmet comes off. Okay, to address the ridiculous long wires proposal- No. I see the helmets attaching onto the 'ears' of X. Oh! I found the explanation for the red stuff Reploids squirt when cut in the Japanese versions of the games. It's red oil (probably a mixture, considering different machines have different oil type requirements [ie- don't give the weed whacker what you give the lawn mower]) that was edited out so the games could keep an "E" rating (as were the words 'death' and 'kill'). That might also help explain why Reploids explode when they receive enough damage to die. And in other news this researching led me to discover Ra Thor, who is awesome Anyway, I hope that concludes this discussion. I also found something that said there was a special component in the robot masters that Mega was always careful to not destroy. As long as it was left intact the robot could be rebuilt, therefore he genuinely killed few of them. It's funny because it's similar to something I had in mind regarding Rinamians. Caracura: *cringing, on the ground, with one hand on the side of her face, covering it* *sandy blonde hair pokes out from under the helmet, some of if falling down by the uncovered baby-blue eye that watches him* *a white swirled sun mark is on her cheek, and her white lips are drawn tight from the pain of her slashed face, which the silver mist is leaking from*
