Well, I don't plan on creating really heavy things for the store itself. If someone commissions me for say, a whole outfit, then we'll negotiate the shipping price through mail. So I just need a set shipping price for when people order through the store. And we're talking accessories and baby/kids clothing mostly. And since there will be an additional, smaller fee for each additional item, I think it'll work out. =)

Does $20+shipping sound too expensive for a custom Tee? Yep. For $15, Zazzle can print my own design on a Tee. For $10 or $12, I can buy an awesome design off of Teefury or Shirt Woot. The T-shirt market on the internet is heavily saturated and super cheap. I'm also feeling a little dubious about the animal hats, simply because I see them for sale everywhere. Unless it's a totally unique design I've never seen before, there are stores in the mall I could get one. (And at Comic Con, there were no fewer than six different stores selling a jillion types of animal hats) Nevermind the fact that I greatly dislike them. >.>

You're trying to break into pretty saturated markets and compete against some pretty large businesses that have been doing this for a number of years. Differentiating your product and really defining the value here are going to be your major challenges if you plan to shoot for 20(USD?)+S&H. Plus, using your quote of, what, seven bucks for Shipping? you're looking at close to 30USD for one t-shirt. That's pretty darn expensive, isn't it? Even looking at places like Kohl's and other such, it looks like the price range is half or even a third of that price. Unless it's something really funny or fancy, it'll probably be a tough sell.

Well... yeah. The biggest challenge is the pricing. Seeing how things are valued differently over here (higher wages = higher prices on goods - at least compared to the US).
But like I said. My main focus is gonna be stuff for babies/kids. The rest will be up to those who wish to commission me. And it's a definite that I'll be trying to make original stuff. I will only do T-shirt as commissions then (eg. if someone would like a custom made Tee, not necessarily with a print).
I appreciate the input ^^

I don't know if I would buy clothes for myself, but if I had a little baby relative I might get them some clothes. And I absolutely adore plush animals and blankets. Yush. Soft and plushy things.

Maybe there are stores in the malls in your area that have them, but good luck trying to find anything unique like that around here where I live. XD It was the same deal when I lived in Brockville, and in Omagh in Nortern Ireland. Small cities and towns have no access to this kind of stuff. (and no access to conventions) :{

Thanks guys =)
And yeah, we don't have conventions over here either =(
But we'll see. I think what I'll do, is that I'll only put up one of each item at first. And only make it a small-ish collection. Then if someone wants something that has been sold already, they can commission me for it.
Besides, hats are rediculously fast to make (at least compaired to sweaters and the like xD ).
So here's what I'm thinking I'll make for my starting stock:
Baby apparel: Booties, socks, bibs, hats, blankets, stuffed animals, scarves/mittens.
Kids: Socks, stuffed animals, hats, mittens/gloves/scarves.
Teens/adults: Hats, scarves/gloves, socks, bags.
Maybe I'll add a few miscellaneous items to each category. And I'll add the option of requesting something custom made. If the store i successful, I can add more items, but think this fits my abilities in terms of budget and time right now.
As for the design... I think I'll make it colourful and stylish for positive vibes =)

Wouldn't baby stuff require all different shapes and sizes for different baby age groups anyway? I could totally see a baby-only store being successful. I've never actually seen a single-person store sell things for babies and kids and adults. X3

I'll start out with baby only, and see how that works out =) Sewing is usually faster than knitting (usually xD ), so I may include a few accessories and/or clothes for toddlers. The good thing about clothes for babies and kids, is that you don't need to take body shapes into consideration. So I can just go by size. But baby only for now =)

There are two Hot Topics in Canada. xD; Tamia is correct. Canada basically... doesn't have Hot Topic. XD Actually, I'm pretty sure Hot Topic stores are only in the United States.
