There is a video by John Green trying to explain the war in my homeland.
I appreciate that he is trying to educate people, and am deeply grateful for him using his platform to spread awareness. Plus it's a good video. A nice overview of the last 100 years of history, although it's sparse and lacks pre-20th century history, as well as 2014's EuroMaidan, which is also important.
But these past three weeks have seriously jaded me on Westerners trying to explain the basics of my culture and reality back at me. Not John Green, he's fine, but I have seen so many analysts and videos and commenters who just miss such critical points that make me want to tear my hair out. Both regarding Ukraine and Russia (like...why is nobody talking about the fact that Russia is not one country but a bunch of ethnic groups and republic smooshed into one? Which have seperatist movements that might suddenly grow very bold...)
It's just...so frustrating. And I know that having lived experience talked over by people who are not from your group is not new. I am also aware that I am a Ukrainian expat who emigrated as a child (I have some deep imposter syndrome about that). But dangit, I'm still frustrated!

I generally have a short just-before-sleep routine, stuff that doesn't take more than a minute if I'm not feeling lazy.
Or tired, as the case may be. Because last night I did one part of it and... I barely even remember that because I must've almost immediately fallen asleep the moment I got under the covers. That rarely happens, but uh. Okay. xD

In case it's not clear what I mean when I say I cry easily, here's an example for perspective: when Rarity of My Little Pony shoos away a crab that had got caught in her mane, politely telling it that her mane does not support marine life, and the cartoon crab scuttles disappointedly away, yes, I cry, I weep for the rejected crab.

Watching a youtube video and one part includes someone saying "open sesame" in a weird voice. In a way that sounds like "open says (a) me".
... Open sesame. Open says me.
asfdsfds Was that on purpose on part of a translator and how did it take me this long to make that connection?

Will probably update it frequently to reflect my mood/ego.

What time is it?
Why, it's BAMBOO SHOOT TIME. *lightning strike in background*
.....I counted 61 shoots that I pulled up today in our yard. The little Where's Waldo part of my brain got lots of exercise and "AHA, you thought you could hide from me?? >D" satisfaction. But it took me almost an hour to peel all of them, let alone chop and boil them. x'D And adding that to what we had in the fridge...let's just say that our fried rice had a heck of a lot of fiber tonight~ XD

I before E except after C, except for certain sounds and after certain letters. So sieve out the rest and seize the day with that foolproof spelling rule.

I was one of three judges of a kids' art competition today. It was a lot of fun, and for the most part, we were all in agreement!
There was one drawing, however, that really stood out to me. It was done by a twelve year old, and I could not believe how incredible it was. The colours were vibrant and blended together beautifully, and the orca she drew looked realistic. Plus it was imaginative, with a good strong message. If someone my age said they drew it, I would think they are a good artist. A twelve year old, however...wow.
But we had to pass it over because it was not on the theme of the competition. ;_;
And now I'm wondering whether to write to the teacher of this kid and tell her to pass on my regards, as well as ask that this kid absolutely does not stop drawing. She has so much talent and she is going to go places with it. But I know how gutwrenching it is to be the artistic kid who is good at drawing and be passed over in a competition for what is supposed to be your Thing.
I just hope that would not be inappropriate. But it's something I would have loved if someone else did for me when I was that age.

Celestial - I would do it! I'd go as far as to make it a letter to the kid, albeit likely passed through the teacher. Competitions may come and go, but an encouraging letter from a prominent adult figure who knows art will probably last for years. (And it can't hurt the sting of being passed over either.)

Yeah, my mum thought so too. I'm going to write to the school and ask them to pass on the message.

Aww yeah, a letter to her sounds like a sweet gesture, and I'm sure it'd mean a lot! :3

"There's this current event thing (that's not related to anything global, political, important to anyone besides those directly involved, or anything being talked about on the forum) that I pretty much don't want to hear about, but keep seeing when I visit Youtube in order to use the search bar for unrelated reasons. So I will search in other ways and do other things so I can stop hearing about it."
*Watches a LP.* Video Suggestion upon scroll-down: "SO ABOUT THIS THING."
*Checks in on social media sites.* Some person: "SO ABOUT THIS THING."
*Does my daily check of the news.* News: "THERE'S DAILY ATROCITIES AND OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS BUT SURE WE'LL TALK ABOUT THIS TOO"
*Goes out of my way to go to a blank youtube page specifically to use the search bar, and searches for ace attorney.* Result: "HEY WE MADE PARODIES ABOUT THIS."
Stoooooop. x'D
