Heard that middle partings are currently in style and that side partings are now vintage, old people hair. That is so weird to hear, I still remember being practically bullied into parting my hair on the side so as to avoid looking extremely uncool. And I never stopped doing that since high school because you never know when you'll run into a vicious mob of teens, I guess. A couple weeks ago I started getting my hair back into a middle parting to experiment. Observations: hair pretty; I feel like people who choose to part their hair like this must have a lot more confidence in the symmetry of their face than I do; my side parting was something I played with to enhance the asymmetry of my face, because it made me go from gross and misshapen to gross and misshapen but in a fun way; to be honest asymmetrical hair was also a way for me to play with gender expression (it makes sense in context); I'm just bored of the middle parting and feel like the boredom is seeping through my skull by now. Back to the side it is - it's not like I have that many options with straight-as-a-measuring-stick hair anyway.

Liou Right?! I am also baffled by this new trend. My experience growing up was pretty different from yours, though. So, here's the thing: I have always parted my hair in the middle. Not because I think it looks better (though I also don't think it looks bad) It's just side parts... felt uncomfortable to me when I tried pulling them off. I felt like my head was out of balance. I was probably doing it wrong, I don't know. But anyway, I grew up with the 'uncool, boring' hairstyle, and I knew my peers thought it was boring and uncool, but I stood out in a lot of other ways already, so what's one more. XD
And now I'm like... so you're telling me middle partings are what's cool now. Like, I totally get it as a reaction from the newer generation. But. It feels so upside down to me. XD My hairstyle was NEVER cool.

I don't think I've ever heard this thing where parting your hair in the middle is either cool or uncool. Then again, in my case, people are so focused on my hair color it probably doesn't matter very much how I style it.

I don't think I've really heard of it either, though I may have just gotten lucky. (Or I just don't care about hairstyle opinions of others.) I always parted my hair down the middle for similar reasons Ginz said, that it just doesn't feel right if I try to do otherwise. That my head was out of balance, but also that my roots were getting pulled a bit. But then I have enough hair that I can pull it all back anyway.
Funny how this conversation is coming up when I'm thinking about getting a haircut very soon, if I can only find a place. I mean, I can find a place fine, but one that'll have people that listen to me and will be open about consulting with me (because I'm thinking about changing some things but I also don't know enough about hair stuff to know what's feasible and what would look good, and not in a way where they're enforcing over-feminine stuff that I'm not going for). But it does need to be soon because I'm getting very tired of upkeeping my quarantine-hair. xD

Face blindness is like: "Ugh, why did they get the same actress to play this mother and daughter in this film? So tacky." "Thorn, they're different people."

I've only heard of the middle part vs side part debate in the context of TikTok and its manufactured "generation wars" between Millennials and Gen Z'ers. Some Gen Z kids are making fun of Millennials' side parts as "old," meanwhile the middle part is popular because it's big in K-Pop and popular e-boys on TikTok like to take from Korean fashion.
I've always had a hard middle part myself, although never got criticized for it growing up strangely (which ties into the bigger odd phenomenon of never really being bullied in school? I don't know why, but I'm guessing people just didn't notice or remember me enough to bother lol). Funnily enough though, I've recently considered changing to a side part as part of the bigger idea of getting a side shave. I dunno if it'd suit me though, I didn't feel too confident when I experimented giving myself the part xD

If there is one thing that I really hope sticks from this pandemic, it's online interviews. They are so, so much more convenient for me as a candidate. I can do it from the safety of my own home, where I can have notes, control the volume and lighting, and don't have to make eye contact. I also save so much time and money on travelling. And, of course, they can be done in pyjama pants.
Still hate interviews, but doing them online has made the experience a bit more tolerable.

To show just how poor my survival instincts are, yesterday I was outside walking around my yard when I heard the surrounding birds start making an enormous racket. Something in the area was upsetting them. The thought that went through my head was, "Oh god, what if there's a bear nearby? I better go get a closer look."
(It was a hawk, by the way)

I love Lil Nas X anyway, but his newest song 'Sun Goes Down' is incredible and raw and especially amazing. Wow.

The friend who got me my first dice set, sewed me a dice bag from scratch; called me her 'best girl', walked twenty minutes to check on me when I mentioned I'd just broken up with my ex, and who exchanged tenth anniversary cards with me for ten years of friendship, now no longer talks to me.
I tried reaching out and didn't really get responses. She lives like three blocks from me so it's not a distance thing. And it's been almost a year.
I don't get super sad about it anymore, except in little moments. Like today I was restocking dice at work, and saw that same dice set she gave me. And a different friend bought it for their character. And it does remind me that time goes on and people move on but you make new friends and yadda yadda. But I still wish I knew what happened!!! I dunno what I did that was bad enough to end a 12+ year friendship.

I went to the library today and grabbed a couple books by Hemingway - in case I find the time to read one. I seem to gravitate toward a writing style with sparser words, which from what I know is Hemingway's MO. (Hemingway's Heming-way?) So, hopefully it can teach me some lessons.
I always get bored when I try to read the "classics", though. If I start one, we'll see if I can actually get through it.

I hate this director, I hate this film, and I hate everything he has ever done.
This song, however...this song is highly relatable and slaps. It can stay. I can enjoy it, a lot.

My 3-yo niece was fiddling around with Pokemon Go on her mom's phone last night, and she was mostly just looking at all the different pokemon on the account when she suddenly noticed the compass feature (i.e. that your character faces the same way you do on the map)
Cue "WAIT. THIS GAME CAN SPIIIIIN" and whirling around in circles watching the screen as she suddenly put together how it worked. I don't normally think kids are cute but omg that was cute.

The older I get, the louder my sneezes become. I thought it was just a quirk of some older relatives, but now I see that it's a family curse.
