This sounds twice as awesome now I see it all fleshed-out. =D
... Torchwood crossed with Dollhouse. Awesomeness factor is probably about equal to trauma factor.

^_^
Well, yeah. That's kind of the point. I won't actually kill any of the main characters, though, so that counts for something, right? (...I'll drive them mad, make them want to die, wish they were anywhere but where they are, and quite probably a few other things, but I won't actually kill them.) I kind of wish I'd watched all of Dollhouse and not just the first season, though, but that can't be helped.

Hey, not killing them is a start! =D
... unless you subscribe to that whole, 'there are things worse than death.' Yeah.
I'd say you probably missed a good deal of horror and traumatising experiences, then. ^_^

*goes to see if Season 2 of Dollhouse is on DVD at the library yet* Oh, huh. I might possibly get to watch the second season sometime around January. Anyway.
Not killing them is a start. Even if, y'know, the first scene is going to revolve around death. >.> And there are going to be a number of other scenes along similar lines, I'm sure. But yeah. Of course there are things worse than death, for the person who would otherwise be dead. Insanity, and so on. :3
...I really shouldn't look forward to the insanity that this story will be so much. I should also put at least a little thought into how Mistral and Grebes work. Along with figuring out how Mistral relates to Grebes and the Undercity/Works, and so on. And possibly figure out better what Sumati's storyline is, though I suspect that might involve figuring out things that I am trying not to think about. >.>

...beautiful isn't a word I'd expect to hear used to describe this. xD But thanks.

xD I actually thought through that reply quite thoroughly. What could I say, I wondered, that had impact, and expressed admiration? Something that responded to the interesting format and interesting psychological things cleverly and eloquently? Something encouraging and constructive and of use?
And I decided: nothing! So I was gonna go with 'that sounds pretty' which seemed to cover everything but didn't really fit, but instead went with 'beautiful' which still didn't quite fit but more so.
... So there we go. =D A look into my mind. Gasp at its cobwebbed wonder.

Why wouldn't it be beautiful? xD I can imagine it, Matthias and Colleen and Sumati as bright points of whatever only made more brilliant by the darkness around them...assuming that I'm not reading this totally and completely wrong, of course. >> Which is totally a possibility, since I've never seen either Torchwood or Dollhouse. << But I did read In Their Eyes. >>

Rikku - xD Alrighty, that makes sense.
Amnei - ...it would take longer than I have right now to explain why it is unlikely to be beautiful, as a whole, if you don't see it from what I've talked of so far. And Torchwood and Dollhouse -- the similarities there, to my mind, are more about setting-tone and that sort of thing than storyline. And In Their Eyes, while messed up, was /much/ brighter than this is likely to be, to my mind.

... Ye gods. That dark?
Um. I hope you won't mind if I wait a while after you've finished it before I read it. xD; I absorb stories waaay too easy, it wouldn't be good unless I had my mind thoroughly sorted beforehand.

...I'm writing a dystopic romance in the head of a psychic who wants to die. xD Also, this is just me projecting what I expect it to be like, so we'll see. It is likely to have a decently happy ending, at least? If my vague plan follows through.
I don't mind. xD I'd do the same sort of thing for this story myself, in that circumstance, if I had a choice.

So, because every good story needs conflict, and I don’t really have any in this story yet...
Augustine Doyle is... a lot of people, really. He shows up everywhere, especially around Colleen. As Austin, he’s a schoolmate of hers, before her family gets Normed out of good society. As Augie, he’s one of Matthias Lionel’s classmates, and the psychologist-in-training assigned to Colleen’s parents. Meaning they see each other a lot. He’s also Gus, part of the Works. Mr. Doyle is one of the governmental agents who administers the Norm.
In none of his personas is Augustine a good person. He is the monster who hides behind a beautiful smile. He makes Colleen’s life, and thus, by extension, Matthias Lionel’s, living hell. He is beautiful. Dark, and handsome in a way that Matthias is not, for all that Matthias is beautiful. August, the name most true to who he sees himself as, and thus the one he never uses, is brilliant. Deranged, in some aspects, but brilliant. And if he wants to destroy you, he will do so will careful words and never use any of his physical strength.
...and I can't tell if I like August more or less than Matthias, which is probably not a good thing. xD If it holds true, then I like Matthias better, but August is more compelling. As for why is name is August, I do not know. It fits, somehow, even if he's dark and 'August', as a word, is colored much like the honey-toned sunlight of early autumn.

So he's a personal representation of an impersonal society?

...no. He's not. He's a dream-logic'd nightmare-ish thing. Except not really. And also very likely to become a character I adore, which is only maybe good for this as a story.

... If it helps any, I think he sounds kind of ridiculously compelling as well? xD;
