The Story So Far
"With the destruction of the Mercenary Guild HQ at the hands of Scrubby and his leg injury during the events of Guild Wars 3, Scar McHall decided he had, had enough action for the time being. With property prices in Tabloid Town at an all time low following the battle for the city, Scar managed to procure a small tavern that managed to survive the carnage at a very affordable price. Immediately setting up shop, Scar soon turned the 'Nook and Cranny' into a decent (and most importantly, clean) halfway house for the construction crews rebuilding the battle-scarred quarter of the city.
"That might've been the end for Scar McHall the mercenary's story, a quiet unassuming life running an inconspicuous little tavern tucked between two warehouses but he had other plans. While he served out meals and beverages over the counter, under the counter he played the mercenary game; keeping his ear to the ground, sniffing out those jobs all the other guilds were too busy or refused to do and plying his old suppliers and contacts.
"Like Tabloid Town, the Mercenaries would rise from the ashes, with visions of a new headquarters beginning to form, and for that they needed the money to flow.
"As did the spice. The kitchen was running out of pepper."
Getting Started
1. Creating a Mercenary Persona
If you haven't already made one, create one here or here. And just like that you're halfway there.
2. Introduction to Calling Cards
The next step is to create your persona's calling card, a very important aspect of a mercenary. It contains everything our discerning clientèle will need to know before choosing to hire you out. Below is an example of a calling card and a brief explanation of the different properties contained within it:
Now, an explanation is needed on the four statistics, which you've probably noticed is comprised of the four playing card symbols. The reasons for this is ... well, I didn't want to hard-code what statistics define your mercenary. Thus while I call it Heart, Spade, Club and Diamond stats you are certainly free to define what they mean individually. For example, your gadget specialist could define 'Heart' as 'Clockworks' for example. It's a cosmetic design feature that leaves you free to define your own character the way you want yet still leave a way to judge how efficient your persona is.
Finally, all starting mercs personae get to distribute 6 points between the four statistics, as shown in the calling card above. Do fill up the form below for your character and note that it's probably gonna take me a while to come up with the card itself. (I do have the .psd file if anyone is curious :3)
Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It
1. Missions Cards, an Introduction
Now we come to the actual missions your mercenary personae will undertake. They range from the mundane to the exotic, each with their own equally lucrative rewards. After all we're not working for free here ^_~
Below is an example of a mission card:
Pretty straightforward, a reflection of the calling cards for easy reference. There will usually be a whole host of mission cards for you to choose from and you don't always have to choose missions that correspond to your highest statistic. (Although it's recommended)
Of course, explaining the mission card is the easy part. Now I'll proceed to show you how to complete the missions you undertake.
2. Getting the Job Done
Now we finally put both calling card and mission card together. To make it easier to use (and so you don't have to read a textwall) the diagram below will illustrate how to determine whether you succeed or fail in your missions:
Simple as that ^_^
Of course in time more difficult missions, some probably needing more than one set of dice rolls because you need to check for two or more stats at once, will be introduced but for now this is how to resolve your missions.
Wrapping Things Up
So there you go. Submissions for new mercs are always open so don't hesitate to sign up. If you have any questions about the event please do ask me about it. I'm always happy to answer your questions ... as long as you sign up and start earning us some dough :3
We're always looking for new recruits and remember, it's all about the money ^_^
