I have a question. Assuming you're able to finish FQ within a reasonable amount of time, do you have any plans for it? Would you consider submitting it to a full-scale production company, sell it, or use it to advertise yourself? Just curious. He won't be able to sell it if there are Neopets references. (such as The White Weewoo) Also, the main characters are based on personas belonging to other people, and I think he mentioned a while back that he wouldn't be able to pay them for the use. XD I can't answer for him, of course. But I'm pretty sure that is the case. Which is kinda too bad, considering how great of a game it is. I've seen so many professional games that FableQuest could mop the floor with. XD

Woo, nice to see this thread again. ^_^ Anyway...
I have thought about this sort of thing in the past, and I'm cautious about selling FableQuest as a commercial title for several reasons:
- Lack of original sound effects and heavy use of royalty-free, "use this as long as it's not for profit" sounds. It would take too long for me to go through the game and replace the copyrighted sounds with completely original ones, and they won't sound nearly as good. - The in-game music uses soundfonts/instruments with copyright/credit terms. (Though I could probably avoid this one by distributing the soundtrack outside the game for free.) - Neopets references. I asked Hunty about this one though and she believes that the references are obscure enough to get past the radar. - Use of characters that were not of my own creation (i.e. forum personas and the like). While I'm sure everyone would be perfectly okay with it, it'd still feel weird making money off other peoples' characters.
One of my main reasons for creating FableQuest is to give tribute to the awesome personas of the NTWF, and to allow people outside the forum to experience a piece of it without having to understand all of the inside jokes and such. I've poured a lot of work into it that would, in professional circumstances, warrant some sort of payment, but I never really desired to create games for profit. I make them for fun and self-discipline.
I have realized lately that Leoness and I are likely to have some financial difficulties, though, so the thought of selling my games has been a lot heavier on my mind lately. I might be able to strike a compromise between what my heart wants and what my family needs by requesting donations rather than flat-out selling it for a set price. At least that way, players who really feel that I deserve a reward can provide it at their own discretion. (To avoid any legal problems with this system, I would mask the donation process as being for my website to keep it up and running, not necessarily for the game itself).
There is also a second project I've been working on called Time Heroes that I've kept a fairly tight secret, mostly because I'm toying with the idea of making it my first commercial title where everything is 100% original. MMF2 is going to release an iPhone runtime for their games in the near future, so I might be able to put something up on iTunes if I can learn the ropes and compatibility stipulations. Chances are I would need to build something from the ground up, but it's certainly worth my time if it's possible.
Ack, that came out longer than I expected. xD; But I hope that clears things up Sarny. ^_^

All but one question, but wow. xD Yeah, I can see the difficulties that poses and I know how it feels not to want to sell something for profit. But the persona issue is less of an "issue" because you only use a few people, as opposed to JP which uses a lot.
As a note, I never really saw FQ as a NTWF tribute since its only losely based on the forum (?) and has only a few forumers. *shrug* S'probably why I like JP much more. ^_^ That and platform games are win.
Edit: I don't think I quite worded that how it sounded in my head, but I hope you get the idea? ^^; I'm so bad at writing my thoughts!

Naw, I think I get the idea. ^_^ I have been kinda bad at including other forumers in FQ, but the next version of the game is going to start introducing more of them. xD
The thing about JP is that I made it in MMF 1.5 using extensions that are incompatible with MMF2, so working with its engine feels really dated. =/ I have an idea, though...
Given the fact that I want to try and make an iPhone application in the future, perhaps I could make a sequel/spiritual successor to JP with the same kind of platforming, but using my new cutout-style graphics? It would allow me to reuse characters that I've already drawn for FableQuest and it's easier to animate anyway. :3

Platform games, at least for iPhones and such, are the way to go, IMHO. =D And if you manage to include NTWFers you'd still have to ask permission but I'm sure everyone would be happy. I mean, their characters might be included in an app that people buy all over the world. PUBLICITY! *shot*

XD Since I make games on the PC, I would most certainly have both iPhone and PC versions of the game, in that case. ^_^
