Yep, this idea was actually born of a dream I had where the entire forum was turned into a vision of the Olympics, with contests and things running all over the place, lots of colour and cheering and plenty of free refreshments.
I thought about it and realized it wasn't feasible to have a forum-wide version, but why not a guild-wide one? People can suggest different competitions like a cosplay one (forum profile), art contest with different categories, a few writing challenges, flag design and the like, and all of it guild related. We could get people to vote in each contest or set it up with impartial judges.
So what do you guys think? I'm happy to do the work myself with a bit of help, and if it turns out to be a success and people want it again, I wouldn't mind overseeing it as a yearly event, hosted by a different guild each year with a guild-themed opening ceremony (with real fireworks =P)
Butyeah, thats all just theory right now. Thoughts? Problems? Thwacks on the head with a 4'x2'?

I like the idea a lot. ^_^ With a good bit of work, it can work and be lots of fun. Perhaps we can also have one where characters battle it out too, with pirates against ninjas or Spacefleet against mages, seeing how long each one can last.
I'd be glad to pitch in any ideas and develop existing ones. This sounds like it would be a lot of fun. The only problem would be keeping up interest.

Art stuff would be cool...maybe judges vote on how people interpret a given theme? Or a representation of their guild? (The flag design would be amazing. ^^)
Celestial: I like the character battle idea, but could you really judge it that well? I mean, it's hard to say who wins in a roleplay-style anything...
Also, would we have to ally ourselves with one guild, or multiple ones?

Harder, for sure, but doable. ^^ Probably the only problem is potential lack of people willing to cosplay. If I had longer hair, I could do my Mages persona.  |

Hold up, guys, we can work out the kinks later. ^^ The idea I had in my mind for the profile cosplay was similar to spirit weeks. Also, we'd have to get people to enter an event prior to its start so we know if there is enough interest to run it or not and, as usual, they can only enter to represent one guild.
Cele, I love that idea. Sort of like a bout of gladiatorial games. xDDD They could be judged on the creative nature of attacks/defence. =D
My main concerns right now are numbers, and also the huge amount of threads this would generate, since we'd probably need one main thread for event listings, medal counts and event signups, and then any number of other threads for individual events. I was thinking of asking the mods for a temperary sub board to work with if there was enough interest. ^^

But my Ninja (and future Steampunk) are not doable for me any time soon. So just doing the profile is easy, depending on how we do the cosplay competition. Cosplay our persona, have a category to cosplay, etc. I wouldn't mind doing a small RP battle either. In some cases it could get really interesting. The problem would be how long they would be, and how they would be graded. |

I figure I should give an indication of the sort of events/contest that might be run during the Guilympics, so I came up with this list. Hope you like. ^^
Pre-Guilympics Events
Insult Contest - Come up with the best targeted insult you can in support of your guild.
Chant Contest – Come up with the best targeted chant you can in support of your guild.
Logo Creation - Create a logo for the Guilympics (maybe the winner could be used on the Guilympic sub board if we get our own speshul board)
Guild Flags - Create an emblem for your guild.
Ceremony Contest – Write up a list of events that you think would constitute the best opening ceremony for the Guilympics. It can involve any number/type of happenings from marching in procession to fireworks to kissing.
Medal Design – Draw the gold, silver and bronze medals for the Guilympics.
Badge Creation - Create a badge that may or may not get awarded to participants.
Guilympic Anthem - Well, we'll need somethig to sing at the opening ceremony.
Writing Events
Poetry Readings - Poetry about your guild and its members and their deeds.
Guild Story - Where the members of your guild collaborate on a story about your guild. (should work a little like the Neopets Storytelling)
Mass Story - Where everyone collaborates on a story like Neo Storytelling.
Individual Story - You come up with a short story that reflects upon the reputation of your guild. (this'd be a long-term one)
Gladiatorial Contests (duels) - Two guild members battle it out RP style. This one would be a tournament running the entire time until we narrow it down to two final contestants.
General RP - Do I really need to explain?
Artistic Events
Guild Quilt - Each guild member contributes a patch to make a quilt that shows what your guild is all about. For instance, the Kinights are all about chivalry, so some of their patches would be of gallant deeds and suchlike.
Themed Art Contest - Not sure what themes, but they'd relate to the guilds.
The Big Picture - Like the Guild QUilt, only everyone does a little portion, like a mural.
Comic Contest - Speaks for itself.
Comic Collab - This works like an art version of Neo Storytelling with each new part being done by a different artist.
Costume Design - Pick one of your personae and create a themed costume for them.
Other Events
Impersonation Contest - Where you dress your forum profile up to cosplay either your guild, an NPC or your own guild persona.
Animation Station - A contest for a short animated scene revolving around a theme.
Weapon Creation - You make a weapon in real life out of objects around your home and submit a photo. Like Neopets Random Contes.
Shield Creation – Same as weapon creation only for a defensive item, rather than offensive.
Random Show of Support – This can be anything you like, a poem, a story, some art, a photo or any number of things so long as it shows clear support for your guild.
HQ Design - Use anything to create a model HQ for your guild.
Any other ideas are most welcome, as well as opinions/revisions to those I've listed here. <3 I would also like to ask the mods... Pretty pwease may we have a sub board and pwease may we have a badge? ^^

I like them all.  I'd help in some of the pre-guilympics and art contest stuff, the tournament/general RP, and maybe shield creation and/or random support. This guarantees that I will do at least one of the above. XD In other words, I'm totally for this. I'd definitely like to try making another badge...the last one was fun. (Maybe a logo first.) |

Also, I'd like to volunteer in the creation of the logo. Maybe medals too.
