Absorbing saidin, Leun wove a thread of Air - seizing Braendar by the shoulder.
"Tell me," Leun said assertively. He could not go on wondering anymore. "You know that I can weave the One Power, you know that I was captured by the Red Aes Sedai further south and you watched me demonstrate Earth Singing last night. These wolves... how do you talk with them? And you said something last night, too," Leun continued, making sure he wouldn't let Braendar get a word in until he was done. "You said that they talked about some power, and that power is me. I can channel no more Fire than one beneath a mantle, no more Air than enough to lift a cat. Just tell me, Braendar."

Well, this is shocking, thought Braendar. Unable to actually move, he turned his head. He chuckled. Actually chuckled at the insanity of it all. "Tell me, Leun, how do you channel? How is it done? Can you teach me?" He didn't give more than a pause of breath. "I don't know. I swear I don't. I know how and why I can talk to the wolves as much as you know about this One Power. The wolves... the wolves know things, you and I don't. It's as if they share knowledge and memories. Light, Leun, they have memories before the Age of Legends! Don't ask how I know it's before, I just do. And they can see the future - Leun, they do it in their dreams. I do it in my dreams! I don't know - wolves and men have some sort of bonding made by the Creator, as I see it. That's why we have dogs - wolves who gave up their lives for servitude. All I know is this," he finished. "That I can talk to wolves, that the wolves know things we don't, know it without the One Power" - he emphasized this - "and that I am STARVING."

Leun tightened the grip of saidin on Braendar's shoulder. "I'm not traipsing into Artur Hawkwing's country without you explaining to me first about what you said! You told me the wolves mentioned a great power - not a bad power, but a respected one. You told me they knew I was chained. What is it about me that the wolves know, Braendar? What's this "great power"? If you don't know for yourself, then ask them."

What's this "great power"? If you don't know for yourself, then ask them." ((FYI, Artur Hawkwing is, and will until he whips Guaire Amalasan, be a minor king. Well-respected, but not powerful. And his name isn't going to be Hawkwing until the War of the Second Dragon - he gets the name from his battle prowess. Yes, I am a WoT junkie. )) Braendar refrained from sneering. "Leun, for one minute, forget the world 'wolf'. Now replace it with 'superiors'. Wolves are people, Leun, and my being a two-leg doesn't make me a king. They tell what the want to. And, on top of that, it'd surprise me if they don't even KNOW about this power. Your name with the wolves is Shadowhunter. That could mean anything from Killer of Trollocs to a thief-catcher, and as far as the wolves are concerned, it doesn't matter. Unlike us humans, they don't like complicating matters. So until YOU find out what they mean, no one will know." Braendar almost was tempted to tell Leun he was the son of a minor noble. Again, the idignant, vengeful thoughts at the word 'minor', but he squashed them. Plus, he would be jailed anyway if he revealed himself. Nowing the 'Captain' (whom he wished to the Light had died of the Black Fever like everyone else), he'd be dragged to Paendrag himself.

Sighing, he relinquished his grip on Braendar's shoulder and on saidin. It would sting Leun's mind until he discovered the answer, though it seemed like it'd be a sting he would have to learn to endure.
Keeping a short distance between himself and Braendar, Leun followed him into the trees. He could not quite place it, but something about Braendar still made him uneasy. He had all but revealed every detail about his - abnormality, Leun decided, for lack of a better word - with the wolves, yet he could not become true kinsman with him.
It wouldn't be the first time I've been betrayed, he thought bitterly.
No, he had told al'Taren too much about himself already. It was pity they couldn't have met in a situation that would've allowed him to be more secretive - he owed him his life, though he was not going to spout every detail about himself to the boy. Al'Taren already knew he could channel, already knew he was not weak enough to do so much as lift him from his feet, already saw him demonstrate Earth Singing. Leun was with him for protection, because fending off the Aes Sedai would be much easier with those wolves at hand. At the first second he was guaranteed safety from Aes Sedai, he would flee.
"Are we near the wolves' meat, now, al'Taren?" Leun asked, his eyes focused dead ahead.

"Listen," he said in a hoarse whisper "I've never met someone who has never hunted before, unless you count bloody nobles. Rule 1 is NO TALKING. Rule 2 is wolves hunt live meat. And Rule 3 is if you talk, you stay behind. Got it? Don't answer." Braendar stalked off, not caring if Leun was nearby. He was a wolf again; silent, ready. His swords were drawn, ready for hamstring and throat. He was the wolf.

Leun suppressed a growl. For someone who supports not talking, he thought bitterly, he sure does take him time telling me to quiet.
Leun had done his fair share of hunting by himself. As soon as he saw game, a quick thread of Air would buffet its skull in. It only took a whit of Fire after that to cook the meal.
I won't be dependent on anyone, but the less I channel, the better. Let's see how al'Taren fares.

((I was... bludgeoned... into this. By TK. He said he would luvvle me to death if I joined. God only know what he'd have done if I hadn't. I don't know much about the history of WOT though.)) Name: Ariena Ilran Status: Accepted of the White Tower Age: 18, going on to 19 Abilities: Exceptionally strong in Air, Fire and Spirit. Has few actual fighting skills aside from the bow, but she can track anything and fights like a wildcat. Carries a small stiletto-like belt knife. She cannot Heal very well, but enough for most injuries (though not the life-threatening ones) Clothing: The white banded dress of an Accepted and the colour-changing cloak of a Warder (She stole it.) She wears her ring on a long silver chain around her neck. Appearance and personality: Long black hair, braided so that it's out of her way, and startlingly green eyes. Slender, average height and pretty in an odd sort of way. According to looks quite vulnerable and frail-looking, but she has a hot temper and is generally very stubborn. Is an adequate cook, but she hates cooking in general. Background information: Ran away from the White Tower a few weeks short of being raised to full Aes Sedai - she was framed. Used to be the daughter of a hunter and is a wilder. She tried to make her way back to her home but found that her father had died a few years ago in a fire, and that she has no living relatives. ((Exactly what kind of terrain is Shandalle in?)) The girl watched from her hiding place as the two men hurried by, trying not to make sounds. Strands of dark hair were tucked behind her ears, and she breathed silently. The white dress she wore was smudged and stained with dirt, and the hem torn, but she pulled her cloak over it nontheless. It wouldn't do her any good to be seen now. She debated whether or not to follow them. Light, why not? She couldn't go back to any city, much less Tar Valon herself, without being caught. And all she had eaten for days were roots and a few smaller animals. Ariena scrambled lightly out, her bare feet making no sound on the hard-packed dirt. She pulled the colour-changing cloak more tightly about her. Burn her for taking the bloody thing and leaving that perfectly good spear at the bottom of the Erinin along with the ferryman who had taken her coins and decided he wanted more halfway across. She'd jumped off and made her way across but had to discard all her belongings and the weapon. Bloody ferrymen.

((Yay TK and your Bludgeon of Luvvle! ;D I believe Shandalle is lightly forested and has flat plains... it's outside the Black Hills and Braemwood, so I assume it has toned-down terrain of that. I assume.)) Braendar-Small Bear stopped dead and gave a mental curse. Someone else was in the forest. Small Bear said forget the two leg and get food. Braendar said who in their right mind would be hiding - that's all they could have been doing - in the forest, particularly where he was? To coincidental for him to let it by. Adding another curse for his senses malfunctioning - Leun's fault, with that arguing - he tore after the woman. He couldn't see her, but he could smell her. He flew out of the forest, never bothering to see what happened to Leun, and pounced on the girl. Small Bear still hadn't left him and Braendar cursed again, realizing what he'd done and barely stopping from knocking her unconscious. He thanked the Light for his wolf-enhanced strength and reflexes. Covering the Accepted's mouth - Light, she was wearing Tar Valon clothes! How many other were there? - he growled "Who under the Light are YOU?" Burn the formalities.

Ariena felt dazed, from her prone, sudden and unexpected position on the ground. With an effort, she pulled her face back into it's calm mask, but her eyes were emerald green and hard. So much for being upwind. She glared into the young man - the BOY's golden eyes. Very young, but Light, he was bigger than he'd looked. Too bad she'd never been big or hefty.
"Let go of me, you big fool," she snarled back at him, clutching hold of saidar instinctively.

((Glad you could make it, Crystal! ^^;; ))
Leun sped after al'Taren. Light, the boy's mad! Leun was the one infected by the taint of saidin, and yet he wasn't the one speeding away through the forest...
Running into the clearing, Leun stopped dead at the scene. al'Taren had pinned a woman to the ground! He opened his mouth in protest, but al'Taren yelled, "Who under the Light are YOU?
"Let go of me, you big fool," she snarled in reply.
That was when he noticed her dressed - white, hemmed with seven colours. Blue, green, grey, yellow, red, brown and white.
"Accepted," Leun muttered under his breath. The Aes Sedai sent her after them! "Blood and bloody ashes, woman! al'Taren, she can clearly channel, and with that rank..." She was stronger than him in the One Power. He was tempted to slit her throat with a swift thread of Air right that moment.

It didn't occur to her to divide the flows. She lashed out with saidar, tried to fling back the boy pinning her down with one hard blow.

Light, but this can't be good news... he thought. In his frantic struggle to not let the Accepted/Aes Sedai - it didn't matter, they'd still get caught - his mind instinctively reached out to the wolves. In 3 heart beats they were there. We come for our Brother Small Bear and the Shadowhunter.Braendar let go of the Accepted, suppressing a smirk. He was beginning yo like this whole Shadowhunter business with Leun. So long as the wolves didn't start to get angry with him.

Burn chivalry to the Pit of Doom!
Wolf eyes peered through the darkness. He was not going to let them get all of the revenge.
Leun seized the One Power. Weaving threads of Air, he attacked the Accepted. One for detaining me, he thought, buffeting her once in the shoulder. One for making me flee, he thought, attacking her with another thread of Air no stronger than a fist. And one for the life of hiding in which I've been thrown! Another thread of Air, hitting her square in the ribs.

Ariena's eyes widened.
A man who could channel... And not very well, either. She wove shields of Spirit, sent them crashing down around him. She had just tied the knot off securely when something else... fur? crashed into her full-tilt, sending her into dark unconciousness.
((TK, how could you? Chivalry? *sniff*))
