Welcome to the Labs! I am most deffinately not the person to be asking about how to use the equipment in here, in fact I'm one of the last people who should be touching the stuff. The labs are a place for our scientists to develop new technologies or improve on existing ones. Everyone is welcome to help brain storm and I'd like to encourage the collaborations of our fighting and support classes to develop whatever it is be it armour, vehicle, weapon, or medical equipment for the benefit of all of Spacefleet. As we go we can start specifying the uses of each lab and I'll start to list rules and layouts and the inventions we've created in this thread and give credit to the creators. Naq erzrzore, jne vf oerjvat naq jr arrq gb hc bhe tnzr va cercnengvba sbe vg! "Hello?" Asked Keng as she knocked on the door to Lab 3. "Anyone in here?". She knocked again and looked around. There didn't seem to be anyone. Oh well she figured, and walked in anyways and put her stuff on the table.((Upon review and noticing that there is already a Lab RP, I've decided to make this less of an RP and more of a place to just plain discuss ideas and develop them. So it's not a place for classes, more like work space where you're talking in character but it's more 1st person. In other words you don't have to put everything you say in quotations if you don't want to. Think of it sort of like the magical contracts thread but less structured.)) Labs: Lab 1: Personal Protection (armour etc.) Lab 1b: Medical Research Lab 2: Personal Weapons Development Labs 3-5 : Vehicle Design + Testing Lab 3b: Communication and General Technology Lab 5b: Everyday Gizmos and Gadgets Lab 6: Large Scale Weaponry Lab 7: Large Scale Protection (for vehicles-building etc.) Lab 8+9: Classified
NPC Lab Assistants: (Post assistant's name and field on this board or under Name an NPC to add one. Maximum of 8 in total to keep things manageable, assistants can be used by anyone.)

Alright, as a starting project I'm looking to make some improvements on my retractable-sword-daggers. Current Design+Function: The blades appear as normal daggers but upon release of a mechanism the blade essentially opens and releases an extension to the blade. I'll post some general blue prints once I can.* I got them from a local weapons shop (don't worry, they're licensed providers for Spacefleet). *edit: * Proposed Improvment: As it stands though the extentioning system provides an interesting advantage, it's still essentially just a blade. I would like to add something along the lines of an electrical current or some other sort of energy based enhancment that could be turned on and off without anything too fancy. Additionally, this is something me and Urchin have discussed at length, I'd like to propose some completely different technology. We call it a gravity glove. Proposed Design and Function: It should fit like any other glove though I imagine it would have to connect itself to the nervous system somehow for practical use. Idealy, without having to add permanent implants, the glove would be controlled by the brain to increase or decrease levels of artificial gravity emmited by the glove. It would kinda be like a weak substitute for summoning things, (or pushing them around) with the force, which is sadly still only fantasy even in this weird universe. It does have a few advantages over the force though such as anyone would be able to use it without going through years of disciplin and worry about the dark side of the force, though it would probably require a fair bit of practice.

Requesting: Networking cable
You see this indent in my hard-drive implant? *points to little metal circle on forehead* A cable can be inserted into that area for wired access, both to and from, should I see a need to physically connect to a computer. While a cable with two or more little wires on the end to connect to whatever I wish would be nice, even I can make a circuit fry if I don't know what the function is of whatever it leads to and from, so connecters for the most common kinds of computer ports will do. If you need me to find out what kind of tip you'll need, or anything like that, just send me a message.
Also requesting: Knife
I'd like a knife for a short-range weapon. I don't want an energy blade, I'd like something solid, that can take strain without breaking, and with little or no bending. Something that can be used to pry things apart, or jammed into something to stop it from moving. Not very long, about six-to-eight inches will do. If you can make the sheath so that it sharpens the knife (not molecularly sharp), I'd certainly appreciate it.

Keng - enhancing the blade with some conductive wire and putting a socket for standard energy cells in the handle shouldn't be too difficult. The gravity glove is going to take some work, however unless we steal Gordon Freeman's gravity gun. Anybody else have any ideas?
Ethan - if it's a standard port that doesn't need an adapter we can just give you some network cables.
The knife itself shouldn't be a problem, but we'll need more time to make a sheath.
I've heard about using nanites to keep the blade sharp. The nanites can check the blade's status whenever you store the knife, and if it isn't sharp enough they'll work on it. *starts digging up books on nanotechnology*
Anyways, this is what I'm working on right now:
General upgrades to the minitanks. I'm thinking stronger guns with more ammo. Oh, and hoverengines.
Surveillance flybot. A small fly-sized robot that can fly around and send back live feed and audio. This is going to be a lot more difficult project than the minitanks.

Retractable Sword Daggers (soon to be Electro Charged Retractable Sword Daggers : Yea, that sounds simple enough but I'll still need a something to control it. I was thinking something like a knob that I can turn with a finger. Oooh, I think I just got an idea for how to make it safe so I won't be accidentally turning it on and off or putting the power up too high. Basically the nob would have small holes in it and there would be a latch that snaps into them to stop it from moving around. Gravity Gloves: Yea, I imagine it as being a very difficult project. A good place to start would probably be studying the gravity generators of the smaller ships, and working on a way to shrink them. We may have to start with a larger prototype and then gradually work it down into something wearable. The gravity gun may be a good start though. Make the gun first and then remodel it for a glove. It's possible the gravity generator may not even be on the glove, but integrated into a vest or bag that attaches to the glove. The problem with the vest being that having a gravity generator right next to your major organs couldn't possibly be healthy o.0 EDIT: Another New Project Bouncy Bombs: Like bouncy balls but every time they bounce there's a small explosion until after a certain amount of time at which point the ball itself explodes.

I can do things like memory serums and poisons, so If you want anything to do with those, I'm your...Cat-Fae-Girl-Forumer. However, I need to be paid to do these jobs. You're payed by Spacefleet. If you haven't gotten your paycheck yet... uhh, you may want to talk to Captain Strife. As for computer system upgrades, I may have a project for you. The device in the back of my neck to control my transformations, it's been having troubles with the space environment. It was designed for terrestrial use on earth/ntwf, but it's been having difficulty keeping me in human form now that I'm actually on the moon. Also, on missions away from our world/moon, I've been having problems staying transformed. Do you think maybe you could upgrade it so it's light output for simulation sun and moonlight can be increased?

I don't know...Is it surgically attatched to your body, or can you remove it? Since if it is attached, I'll have to give you a general anasthetic and some knockout stuff.
I've done surgery on Aikran, before you ask.

It's not attached to me, just inserted below the skin in such a way that it won't move around. Or at least it was. I already got the meds (medics) to remove it. It's about the size of a nickel but more spherical.

Retractable Sword Daggers Upgrade: Progress Report Ok, I've managed to get it hooked up with a power device and some conduction cables, but I still need control over it. I have the previously mentioned control nob made up and have added a fair but of rubber for my own protection, but once again, I still need an to be able to control the strength of the current so if someone can make a kind of dimmer switch-type thing I'd appreciate it
