((Okay, slight change as far as psychic powers go. I don't think it will work out to have characters completely powerless, because then we'll have plot holes. Sorry... I wanted to make it a choice. Still, you don't have to change your characters too much. Everyone, eventually, will have the ability to sense the Rift - I swear that will make sense eventually - so that will be the minimum, so to speak. A lot of people with affinity to the Rift have additional psychic powers, but some don't. So... *facedesk* I hope that made sense... sorry...)) ...>_> Whoops. Made some changes to Simon.

((Thanks Amnei. ^^ And yeah, that's correct Cyborg - and keep in mind, everyone, that no one will be aware of their powers in the beginning, and the powers mostly won't manifest until after the Rift, er, happens.))

((You win, Elcie. xD ..I'll join. Emo!Ender should be fun, too. It's actually quite the logical playout of what would happen if Ender's Game had turned out differently, I think. And yes, this amuses me quite a bit. Also, there's a fair chance that I'll be editing this to add stuff in as I think of it, just so you know.))
Name: Andrew ‘Ender’ Wiggin (self-chosen, believes it’s his real name) Gender: Male
Appearance: Ender is in his late teens, and he’s been living in the Asylum since he was approximately twelve years old. He has pale skin, large brown eyes that always seem to be haunted, and close-cropped light-brown hair. He has long, delicate-looking fingers, but he’s got quite a strong grip. His muscles may have atrophied a bit during his stay at the Asylum, but they’re still there. He’s slender and moves smoothly and quietly. Some people have compared him to a cat in that way.
Personality: Ender is a highly self-reliant person, yet he needs friends. Sadly, he doesn’t really have any at the Asylum. He’s quiet. He doesn’t like people insulting him, and has a tendency to get into fights because of that. He believes that all his friends have deserted him, that by winning the Bugger War he made himself into such a horrible person that nobody could ever like him again. Quite honestly, he hates himself and thinks everyone else does/should, too. Doesn’t stop him from hating bullies and fighting them, though. He doesn’t want anyone else to be hurt the way he’s been. As such, he keeps himself as fit as possible.
Ability: Empathy (receiving). The ability to sense other peoples feelings. It makes Ender both a good leader and rather unstable, especially in the presence of people with multiple, conflicting, personalities.
Random Notes: -- Ender doesn’t believe the book Ender’s Game exists. xD ..he also thinks that he’s being held captive on Earth for destroying the Buggers. He sorta doesn’t think he should be allowed to live, but he’s too scared to actually take his own life. -- Andrew’s first name is correct. It’s why he latched on to Ender as a character, when he lost his memory. Other reason being that Andrew was a sci-fi geek and had read Ender’s Game a million times.

((yay, Shade! XD))
Name: Zander (probably self-chosen)
Gender: Male
Appearance: Probably in his late teens; average height; dark, dark purple hair that is almost black. He's rather pale.
Personality: Zander is sarcastic, cynical, and usually in an almost breezy cheerful mood. He doesn't really care how anyone sees him, which is fortunate given his almost complete lack of tact. He's mischievous and teasing, nearly always smiling, but there's something a bit off about him. His smile rarely reaches his eyes, and it gives the impression that there's something dangerous beneath the surface. His moods will shift violently and without warning, leading him to lash out at whoever is around him - often merely verbally, but occasionally even physically.
Occasionally he will snap into a blindly aggressive state, not speaking and probably not even thinking. He never has any memory of these rages after they pass over, although they wear him out and he usually sleeps for a long time afterward. He openly hates the staff and has been put in isolation many times, although mostly this is simply because he's in a rage and there is no calming or reasoning with him. He's been in the asylum for years, and has really lost track of how long it's been.
Ability: Telekinesis. As well as the ability to move objects with his mind, he can also warp matter or agitate it into spontaneous combustion. He doesn't have much control over these aspects of his ability, though.

Questions! Which are only sorta important, I suppose, but it'd be nice to know the answers anyway.
You say each 'patients' room has two beds. Does that mean that there are two people in each room, or what?
You mention 'rooms on the west side', so there are room on both sides of the hall? And it's just that there are four doors that lead not-to-rooms?
How do the 'nurses' come and go? Through the dining hall? Or is it one of those random mysteries of the asylum?

Although since the asylum isn't full, not every person will have a roommate. This is something that I'd do more with in an LJ incarnation, but as it is you guys can figure it out amongst yourselves. And me, I suppose, if you have a male character and want him to room with Zander for some reason. -Yeah. The hallway itself is pretty narrow, and on the "inside" edge of each hallway are smaller corridors (between rooms) which lead to the four other areas. Edit: here is a crappy Paint diagram (but it's color-coded!) for your perusal, if you're curious. Looking back, I realize that I didn't remember to put the electrically-locked doors on the main blueprint, so... oops. My bad. -The nurses have keycards for the electric locks and come out of the closed area of the asylum (shaded gray on the floorplan).

I've almost figured out which power my character should have. I'll definitely post it at most before my bedtime.))

Name: Harry Louis Versallies XVIII (self-given, especially the Louis Versallies XVIII bit)
Gender: Male
Age: 6
Ability: Bioluminescence
Description:
A small boy in all respects, Harry's main physical traits are his angelic blue eyes, tuft of golden hair, and gleamingly white toothy grin. His features are well rounded, softened at the edges with healthy amounts of baby fat, and kept in check by the mysterious scrapes and scratches that he picks up at any given time of the day. His body is hardly developed, being a long way away from puberty, but it contains within it the inexhaustible supply of energy that little boys generate from the mere act of existing. (Further research suggests that they're born with in-built nuclear reactors, with the body acting as a Dyson's sphere of sorts). His nails are accordingly chipped and gnawed at, having not seen the use in clipping nails when he could just nibble until they were the right length. Elbows and knees are predictably scraped, being the victims of abuse from climbing the most impossible of objects, and falling from equally impossible heights. For all the adventures the body has been dragged through, it's in top condition without a single bone broken. The only item out of place is a brand in the shape of a barcode on the back of his shoulder, which he has scratched at quite often for it itches annoyingly.
Personality:
A living testimony that Einstein was wrong, that E is not MC^2, Harry abounds with energy far beyond that is rationally explainable by the tiny amount of mass his body should be able to hold. This energy has only increased threefold ever since he realised he could make any part of his body glow at will. The novelty of having his brain glow in the dark at night still has not worn off, and neither has the joy in seeing his food being digested in a glow-in-the-dark stomach either. Even more exciting was the discovery that he could impart his glowing physiology into his pee. Now he lives for the sole reason of showing off his great new ability to anybody he comes across, and not necessarily in the toilet either. He is supremely curious about all things, and believes that his glowing powers is the one true cure against girl cooties forever and ever. The only thing greater than showing off his glowing pee is clambering onto everything he can find. Including people.

(Previously Nick Louis Versallies XVIV. However, Harry sounded MUCH better, so why should only Harry get the awesome name?)

Relations:
Harry and Harry are identical twins in every respect. They are new to the Asylum, have just moved into Andrew 'Ender' Wiggin's room, and think that Ender is possibly a God Among Men (and as such, should be duly impressed as much and as often as possible.) It doesn't really bother them not remembering their family or knowing if they had one.
They love wrestling, yelling, running around, and pigs-in-a-blanket, which they don't remember eating (or the taste of), but agree that it has GOT to be downright awesome.

Morning at the Asylum. Light streamed through the high-set, barred window, brightening the barren room and awakening the young man who slept sprawled across the cot on one wall. Zander let out a low snarl without opening his eyes, attempting to pull the scratchy regulation blanket over his face to block out the light. It was too thin to help much. Anyway, he knew what was coming next.
"For once in your life, shut up," he muttered at the loud, drawn-out sound of the meal bell. "Let me sleep in piece. Aaagh."
The bell didn't stop, though, and Zander was too hungry to stay in bed this time. He flung the blanket off and swung his legs out of bed, stretching and arching his back, then winced as his feet touched the cold stone floor. "You'd think they would at least invest in some better heating," said Zander, who was used to talking to himself when he was alone. Getting dressed did not take long and was mostly a matter of finding socks and shoes - the rooms did not contain much, but Zander's was as messy as possible, with his few belongings and the regulation asylum clothes strewn across the floor. It didn't matter, anyway, as he was the only one there. His last roommate had left abruptly, six months... or was it a year ago? He couldn't remember, and didn't really care. The months ran together in this place, and he didn't think that was a result of his amnesia.
"Rise and shine," came a bright, cheerful female voice from outside his door. Zander moaned at this; the nurse this morning was clearly one of the peppy ones, and he despised them heartily. Particularly the ones who seemed to have no problem rising as early as this - without a clock he couldn't be sure of the exact time, which rather bothered him, but he'd always guessed breakfast was at six or seven o'clock. Far too early to be bothering with food, in his opinion.
Yawning, Zander opened his door after he was sure the nurse had gone and walked down the hallway, heading for the door to the dining hall.

Nour had never liked mornings. Mornings meant you were under closer supervision, because the nurses weren't bored yet. Mornings meant blearyness and crankiness, and the breakfast line. Mornings meant slipping out from under your nice, warm blanket and stepping out into the green sunlight that filtered through the tinted windows. It was worse than the fluorescent that came on after dark.
Nour snuggled up under her thin coverlet, slowly letting herself wake up. The first round of wakeups had happened. The peppy nurse had come to wake her up this time. She was always so happy. How could anyone be that happy, unless they knew something she didn't? Considering her amnesia, they probably did.
Eventually she opened her eyes. "What did I do to deserve these early wake up calls?" she said softly to herself, staring at the blank ceiling. The girl swung her feet out of the bed and brushed her bangs back out of her eyes. She took a deep breath and sat on the edge bed dumbly for a minute, waiting for her eyes to focus. After they did, she bent over and scrabbled under her bed until she found her shoes. She never wore them inside her room or when she was on her own, but one could never tell with others. People made messes that, she had found out from several painful experiences, she didn't want to step in; and there were always the chance people who were offended by bare feet. They were creeps, to be sure, but she was cold today anyway.
With a bit of a hop, Nour was off her bed and onto the tile floor. A shiver went up her spine. It was going to be a cold sort of morning. Perhaps she'd bring her coverlet in. The nurses would groan at her like they usually did, but if they weren't going to do anything about it, Nour saw no reason for stopping. She grabbed her blanket off her bed and set it under her while she put her shoes on. No point in cold feet and a cold posterior. She slipped her feet into her shoes and sighed, sitting on the floor for another minute or two, letting her head flop back against the side of her bed. She would have a little bit before the nurses came back to see if she was up.
Eventually Nour tired of sitting on the hard floor and got up stiffly, wrapping her cover around her shoulders. She went over to the door. If she was lucky, she could sneak some food back to her room for later. The nurses never realized the need for a midnight snack, not to mention one in the middle of the morning. Of course, if they were having oatmeal, there might not be much luck in that. Nour squared her shoulders. There was only one way to find out. She opened her door and left her room.

((Just would like to make it clear - since I think maybe that some people don't realize this - no one knows about their powers yet. Not until after the first Rift quake. ...which will make sense. Really. >_>
This also means that if you are undecided on what your character's powers are, there's no pressure to make up your mind just yet. ^_^))

M was already awake, sitting on the side of his bed in the room he had to himself. The nurses had long ago realized that it was not safe to have G in the same room as anybody, despite how relatively harmless M and P were.
M was presently reading a physics book written by Steven Hawking. Now here was a man who managed to thrive intellectually, despite a disabling condition. M looked up to the man as a role model, though his other two personalities could have cared less about the man.
Just then, the nurse came in. "Time to wake up!" she said cheerfully, then frowned. "Though it looks like you're already up..."
"Indeed," M replied calmly. There was a pause. "It's time for the morning meal, I presume?"
"Uh... Yes," the nurse replied, then left. Most of the staff in this place was intimidated by M.P.G., mainly because they could never know which person they'd actually be talking to. If it was G who'd been sitting on the bed at the time, the nurse might have reason to fear.
In any case, M closed the book and put it under his bed. If he left it laying out and G were to enter the room later, then he might very well tear up the book in a fit of rage, and M certainly did not want that. In any case, he stood up and exited his room.
