Darn, my ending won already. And at 8 am NST. (Most days I wish Stone would update in the afternoon.) I wrote it super late last night on a whim after I read the whole story, and I was too tired to polish my entry any... Had it not have gone up yet I'd certainly have changed some things and resubmitted. But oh well, at least I could poke some fun of my ending in the ending itself, haha. Congrats to all the winners this week, especially Kat and Gelquie! The story had surprising depth and twists, and I enjoyed it. I got a Ghost PPPB. Seasonal. I really hope that the next story is Halloween themed.

Congrats! But yeah, I've had to try to get storytelling entries in by 8am after Stone has been updating really early - 8am NST my time is 11pm. I think I'd like to explore some bits that came up in this storytelling round in future NT stories but we'll see. You're in luck, Riel. I have two Halloween-themed starters (I THINK) already written up and ready for submission. Hopefully one of them makes it. I submitted them for this round but neither were chosen.

Hello everyone!
I returned a few weeks ago to Neopets after years of not having visited the site. The Storytelling competition was always one of my favourites, so I'm eager to participate again.
Now that the current story has concluded, how does it work for sending in a new story starter? Do I just send it in the form where I would usually put my entry?

Hello Ilona, welcome back to Neopets. I look forward to your future Storytelling entries! My favourite contest, too, is the STC. A new story starter can be submitted anytime over the weekend, in the submission box where a "normal" entry would go. Good luck! Feel free to ask more questions if you have them.

Great, thank you! Then I'll try my luck today or tomorrow. Let's see how it goes.

My attempts to bring more Christmas into the story failed. ...a green Skeith dressed in a red sweater and festive hat, complete with white fur trim. "Oh ho, whom'st have we here?" He adjusted his rimmed glasses.
Bria blinked. "Wait..." She narrowed her eyes. "Santa Skeith!?" she shouted incredulously.
"Ho ho," the Skeith laughed whilst holding a finger to his pursed lips, "don't say that too loudly! And before you ask what I'm doing in Altador, little Bria -- yes of course I know your name! -- I was taking a weekend off in the winter vacation timeshare the Missus and I purchased in Y14."
The Aisha sloshed backward a stride. "I, er... you're real?" she whispered.
"Why of course!" Santa Skeith uttered with a gape. And then he smiled. "But that's OK, your unbelief is not as strong as some. For it was actually no coincidence that I bumped into you. You see, there may be no snow in Altador, but citizens here celebrate the Day of Giving all the same. And, oh ho ho, I know your Christmas wish." He winked at her, and Bria felt a pang of curious nervousness. "And I've made it my mission here to help you make some friendly matches..."

FINALLY broke my slump, in one of my alternate entries I wanted to have her argue with the mail carrier.

My entry to the story telling contest was accepted! This was an absolute pipe dream as a kid, haha. I was mad worried it was too simplistic, it's really not the kind of thing I usually write! And I was also worried I'd annoy the editor by re-using some bits from my first entry (this was my second). I did my best to make it fresh, though.
Anyway, yay!

Congratulations! That is amazing! Since I returned to Neopets, I'm finding it very hard to win the Storytelling Contest. I've entered almost every time over the past weeks and only had one entry accepted. This time, I didn't even enter because I figured there was so much time to submit something that the chances of winning were very slim. But now I want to go and take a look and get started on the next part!

This time, I didn't even enter because I figured there was so much time to submit something that the chances of winning were very slim. But now I want to go and take a look and get started on the next part! I'm really enjoying it! I don't want to say it's easier than doing the whole thing yourself, because you have to stay consistent with everyone else and you may have to go out of your comfort zone, but it's also less stressful! You don't have to worry about the whole piece being enjoyable, you're creating it collaboratively, and you just need to focus on your own little part and watch it come to life. :') Sorry if that's trite , but all my friends are visual artists and I'm mad jealous of them when they're doing art exchanges and such. Ive tried fic exchanges before, but it wasn't really that enjoyable for me. This is my perfect community experience 😌😌 I'm going to regularly participate from now on! I hope we'll be able to write a story together <3

Huge congratulations to Stella! I didn't think your part was too simplistic; though it didn't move the plot a great deal, it furthered the characterization of the MCs, which is always important and often underdone compared to action/dialogue. I liked it and I'm glad to hear you want to stick around! (Also, making maximal reuse of unselected entries is perfectly fine, all the greats do it haha.) I don't want to say it's easier than doing the whole thing yourself, because you have to stay consistent with everyone else and you may have to go out of your comfort zone, but it's also less stressful! You don't have to worry about the whole piece being enjoyable, you're creating it collaboratively, and you just need to focus on your own little part and watch it come to life. :') This is precisely why the STC is my favourite contest (and why I keep coming back to it). There is something very special about writing collaboratively, balancing tying ends and creating new problems for others to solve, and generally keeping a story going in a way that is interesting. And you are right, then I don't have to plot out a whole story myself. ALSO I literally logged into the NTWF just to congratulate Azusa on her win! That's a name I don't recall seeing in a long while (from my records, around STC 800). I'm happy to see you in the contest again! Keep trying Ilona, I'm sure you'll get in again soon.

I just submitted my latest entry.
When you submit for Storytelling, do you leave an empty line in between paragraphs (like I'm doing here) or do you just press enter once at the end of every paragraph? I've been alternating between both options and wonder what's best.
It looks a bit to me like there are no empty lines in between paragraphs on the website (just some spacing at the end of every paragraph). And maybe I'm overthinking this but I don't want for the judge to have to go through the whole entry and either delete empty lines or add them. That seems like a lot of useless work.

I never noticed that the website doesn't have an empty line between paragraphs! Good eye. But I would (and have been) leaving empty lines in my entries, just one, since that's probably what it's going to show up as on the other side. There's probably some kind of word processor/web page editor that the judge uses to easily make it ready for publication with paragraph tags and such, so readability when they receive it is better imo.

While there are no empty lines, there does seem to be higher spacing between paragraphs. That's interesting how they've formatted it.
For my entries, I haven't needed to put in paragraph tags. I just do a double-enter between paragraphs, as you would make a new paragraph here. For bold and itallics, that's another story; those work the same way as forum bold and itallics tags work.
As for the latest slot, I have an idea for this story that I've had for a while, but now is the time to try it. Time to attempt an entry after I eat!
EDIT: Entered something. It's very long, so I don't know if it'll get in. xD If it doesn't, I'll post it here!

I always leave a blank line between paragraphs, if that helps. And I've been doing that over a span of more than 400 contests, so I do not think it is an issue. Good luck Gelquie! I thought about attempting an ending, but don't have a strong idea, so I think I'm just gonna trust you that you know what's going on.
