So, I've been writing fanfic (warning: RAMBLING AHEAD), and my first fic that really made an impression, I was trying to update daily. In the process of this, I discovered that I can write fast when I need to, because by the end I had no buffer and was writing at school on a flashdrive. It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. I sort of wanted to do it again. I remembered NaNo. And, today, at the last possible moment, I took the plunge and joined up. I'm doomed, aren't I? It's my lovely little dystopic magic future. First person told by Maggie, a human, who's trying to survive when she's contacted by some old friends from her "saving the world" high school days. Basically, it's a camper travelling around destroyed places, pursued by both sides in a civil war, and containing Maggie; her former best friend, the werewolf whose existence started the war; another werewolf who's pretty much the only person out of her old friends Maggie still respects; and the final guy, a melodramatic mage.
My major challenge for myself? Not allowing Maggie to turn into a Mary Sue, but not making her personality flaws so obnoxious that she becomes more of a burden to write than anything else.
