It's a steampunk fantasy romance, set in a world in which technology is just beginning to take hold. As a result, there's quite a bit of conflict between the humans, addicted to Progress, and the traditional lives of the Fae. Making it worse is the destructive regime of Mageri, a group of human mages who have taken over the nation of Telethar. They firmly believe in the supremacy of their own type of magic and savagely persecute the Fae and any humans who use alternate methods to their own.
A couple of decades after their initial coup, the Mageri are in full control of Telethar. Sherieth, a young Fae who knows little of her heritage, is an orphan who lives a carefree life travelling the land with her best friend Tozki, a Fae of the Pixie race. Alerid is a young man, captured by the Mageri as a young boy and now an emotionless, utterly loyal killing machine. When their paths collide, they - and Telethar - will never be the same again.
