Let's hope that this time, it'll work out better than last year. I'm not sure how far I got and if I gave up on the second or just the third day, but I remember that it was early and that my idea just didn't work out. This year, everything will be different (yeah, right). I'm planning on writing a murder mystery novel that has been in my head for quite a while already. While I'm not sure about the ending and the solution to the murder yet, I have a good feeling about the idea and especially the characters I'm going to use. This will be my first time writing anything longer than a one-shot that does not take place in a fantasy world. I just hope I'm not going to get bored with the restrictions of our boring world

Ooh cool, a mystery should be fun. If you get bored with the restrictions of reality-- which I admit are fairly boring *shot* -- you could always add in random fantasy. =D No rules against spontaneously breaking world continuity.

True. Adding in some fantasy could actually get quite interesting, but for now, I'm going to try without.
I've spent the weekend giving emergency medicine classes and barely got a chance to write, so I'm behind now. My wordcount is at 1,248 words, which is not that bad considering I was at those classes from about eight in the morning until late in the evening yesterday and until about eight in the evening today.
My only problem is that now I'm kind of stuck on my next scene. As I already said, I'm writing a murder mystery and would like to write it from two point of views - Jocelyn, who is the sister of the victim and who I write about after the murder happened and Julia, the victim, who I write about before the murder happened (if that makes sense). So I have Jocelyn investigating and wrapping up the story from Julia's point of view at the same time with both storylines ending with the solution to the murder.
Problem is that after the prologue, where Julia's body is found, I begin the first chapter with Julia at the age of five, meeting her best friend. It's quite short, so I now need to find out which other information I'd like to give to the reader in this chapter and which other scenes I could include. I'm thinking about maybe a scene where Gabriel (her best friend) gets reprimanded for playing with Julia because his parents don't like her, or I could start introducing the girls who like to tease Julia and who become her enemies later on. Hm... I've got a whole night to think about it.

I'm now at 2,379 words and ready to start the next chapter which will be written from Jocelyn's point of view. In the end, I decided against introducing the girls who like to tease Julia and who will become quite important to the story, but I already hinted at them.
I'm behind! Getting time to write is difficult with all the classes I'm taking this term, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a relaxing weekend which I can use to catch up.
