So my NaNo this year is going to be pretty interesting. My problem with NaNos is that I can never come up with a plot that's long enough for 50k words, and so I usually come up short. BUT THAT'S WHERE THINGS ARE GOING TO CHANGE This year, since I've realized my problems, I've decided on a whole different approach. I have four young girls whose stories are generally unwritten. Their plots are not long enough to be written as individual novels, but they're too long for short stories. At first I thought that they would to be forever lost in my mind... But that's when the idea hit me. What if I combine all their stories into one? So meet Vans, Lillia, Rae, and Eris. Together, their trials in love, happiness, and overall survival on the streets of NYC will help me reach my goal this year. And I will win NaNoWriMo.  |

She also has a few chapters of her own throughout the novel to tie everything together.

Names in blue and red are the main characters, with Robin in the middle. The red and blue represent which team their own, which I'll talk about later on. Blue lines equals friendship. Pink lines equals love. Dark pink lines equal that the two characters are dating or have dated in the past. Green lines equal family. Red lines equal hatred. Rachel Marie Keegan
Rachel, who prefers to be called Rae, is a seventeen-year-old girl, and is one of the perspective characters in my NaNo. Not much is known about her past life, other than she was born and raised normally (compared to the others in this story). She lives with both of her parents and a little sister. Her hair color is natural, but she sometimes wears it as a fauxhawk to remind people that she is not a dumb slut, but an intelligent individual.
At the end of her junior year, she was asked on a date by Justin Altena. After a few more days of hanging out together, Rae and Justin started dating. At the start of the story, they have been seeing each other for six months.
Her best friends are Colleen Granger and Alissa Villa, also known as Squelette and Lissa. They are straight-A students, devoted Christians, and the ideal good-girl of the school. In complete contrast, Rae gets A's and B's, was raised a Christian but is now a self-proclaimed agnostic, and sometimes isn't as well-behaved as her friends. None the less, the three of them are inseparable.
Caroline Heurta is Rae's worst nightmare. Carrie is the class whore, despite the fact that she hasn't lost her virginity yet. Since freshman year, she has gotten all the connections to the senior guys, and now has her eyes on the hotties of their own grade. Rae never really cared for Carrie, and Carrie never really cared for Rae, but when one boy comes between the two of them, the gauntlet has been thrown down.
As stated before, Rae has been dating Justin for six months, and she's done some pretty heavy things with him. One day, at the very beginning of the school year, Justin announces that his mom is definitely working late and that they'd have the house all to themselves.
You can just imagine what happens.
Well, several weeks later Rae starts showing symptoms, and the icing on top of the cake is that she misses her otherwise-regular period. Her horrors have come true; she's pregnant.
Though her parents are thoroughly disappointed in her being so irresponsible, she is given no punishment other than that she has to have the baby (her parents don't believe in abortion). But then she has to tell Justin, and eventually her goodie-two-shoe friends would wonder why she was getting fat. Rae decides to keep it all a secret for as long as she can, with the only person knowing being Justin.
But the moment he learns of the truth, Justin is struck with shock and is scared to death to be a father. The next day, he comes up with some bullcrap excuse and dumps his loving girlfriend. To make it all better, Carrie had overheard their break-up, and spreads the rumor that Rae is pregnant. Suddenly, Rae's personal life is thrown into turmoil; her best friends completely hate her, her boyfriend has dumped her and won't even speak to her, and she's alone with a baby in her womb.
And to make it all worse... She sees Justin snogging Carrie in the middle of the hallway. He starts telling everyone that the two of them have been dating since the summer, and that there was no way that he would have ever had sex with Rae.
Perhaps all hope is lost.
Mme Duval, her French teacher, announces a new project. There's a catch to it; she picks the partners. Rae is sure that she'll be the odd one out and that Carrie will be with her boyfriend, but things turn out...differently. Carrie is immediately paired with Squelette, and Justin's best friend is put with another boy in the class. Suddenly all the students are paired together, and Justin and Rae are partners.
Justin claims that he could not possibly work with Rae. He says that it would be so much better if he could be with Carrie, and for Squelette to be with Rae. Squelette protests that she could not work with Rae, either. But Mme Duval stands by her decision, and Rae and Justin must work together.
Though they are partners, Justin won't even look Rae in the eye when they work together. Rae supposses that he'll never love her again, and one day she starts to sing a song out loud. That song, however, just so happened to be the song that Justin thought was their theme song, and Justin is touched. He warms up to Rae a bit, and the two become friends again.
Carrie finds out that the two are friends again, and she's afraid that Rae is trying to steal Justin from her (though in reality, it was the other way around). She immediately threatens Rae, telling her that she'll beat the sense out of her and make sure that she has a miscarriage. Rae is afraid to tell any of this to anyone, and she starts to turn away from Justin. He notices what's going on, and follows her after school. Carrie threatens Rae again, and Justin is horrified by what he hears. He stands up for his ex-girlfriend and dumps Carrie on the spot. He tells her that if she ever tries to hurt Rae again, he'll tell everyone about the things she tried to get him to do with her. She's humiliated, and immediately retreats.
"I was an ass," Justin says to Rae. He apologizes from the depths of his heart, and Rae knows that what he says is the truth. She seals his apologies with a kiss, and the two reunite.

It's Time to D-D-D-Duel! There's something special about the characters in this novel; they like to cause shenanigans. Most of the main characters are best friends with each other, which is why everything is tied together, but how could such a large group meet and know each other, especially in such a large school? Whether it's because of friends or family, each character was brought into this little game, and now they are part of a group. Welcome to the City-Wide Capture the Flag. That's right. No official boundaries, but the hideouts are always located in or around Times Square, though having a hideout being a team members' house is illegal. Normal Capture the Flag rules apply. If you're tagged in the other teams' territory, then you're out and you must either spectate from your own territory, wander the streets waiting to get back in, or retire to the HomeBase to wait. The only way to get back in is for the team leader to send everyone a text message saying, "AMNESTY!" The team leader can only do this every fifteen minutes, since the games can go on for a long time. To successfully win a round, the ENTIRE team must be together in a picture with the other team's "key" via camera phone, and thus send the victory shot to the members of the other team. It doesn't matter where you take the photo, but it is best to take it in your own territory for protection. Territory goes as follows: each team has their own side of Times Square and the area around it. The boundary line is marked by a street, in which that certain street itself is a neutral zone and that the sidewalks on either side are the two territories. Each team has a hideout in the territory in which their key is located, and they MUST change hideouts each round. As normal Capture the Flag rules apply, if you go into the other team's territory, you're fair game. Obviously since the territories are huge, phone usage is a must. Text messages are more used now that everyone has a decent keyboard phone, but one of the team members has a crappy phone and thus calls everyone. AND NAO FOR THE TEAMS Most of the characters on the teams are names and placeholders (although a few of them are REALLLLLLLYYYYY old characters of mine that I had to stick in there), but the ones in bold have actual parts in this NaNo. Also, the first person on each list is the team leader.
