Actually, I think the real reason why the Neopets team captitalizes all the Neopet species names is because they are copy-righted, and that makes them proper nouns.

I always capitalize the species when I'm writing; it just doesn't seem right to leave it lower-case when it's about a specific type of pet. I think of it as a last name, I guess - if you use it, capitalize it. Moonstars might have a point - if you want to go for the practical, easy explanation Animorphs was okay up till the book about instant maple-ginger oatmeal... after that it started getting too reused and I stopped reading.

And I loved that book! What was it, "maple-flavored instant oatmeal with ginger"? I remember they poured it into the Yeerk Pool. Always thinkin', K. A. Applegate was! But once they moved into the Hork-Bajir camp, I knew it was over. "Suuuuuuuuure, leb388"--everyone's response to my rambling.

I used to capitalize species, but I'd forget occasionally and for some reason my spell check can't tell the difference between a non-capitalized and a misspelled word. It was easier to 'add' half the numbers of words to my spell check dictionary and stop capitalizing species names (which looks a bit odd anyways)

Personally, i think animorphs peaked at 26 and went downhill from there.

I capitalize some times, and some times not.

I stopped reading Animorphs a long time ago...it gradually got worse.

The first few Animorph books were okay, the next few great, at 35 or so they started to drop, and they never quite got better. I was one of those late fans; I never read an Animorph book until after the last one was released. The last one ruined everything!

Aye, I used to be a die-hard Animorphs fan until about book #27 or so, when the series seemed to just repeat itself and turn into more of a sci-fi thing. Whatever happened in the end? Who died?

Meh... I never got into that series. I'll take a book of comics thank you.
