Um. Haniow is an intersting character. He prompts an interesting style, right now. Heh. This is going to be so much fun when he shows himself. Kayne is going to go crazy, I suspect. Time? Is it time? No. It is not. Sad. They killed them! The children. The Wildlings. Sad, but neccesary. Must tell the Son about this. They didn’t seem to think that the wild ones were a challenge. Strange. Even the creatures here consider the children powerful, and have adapted to avoid them.
But no. No! He cannot know. None of them can. Mustn’t let them know I’m here, watching them. Mustn’t let them know that I’m part of them. The Father said that one of us must do this. He said that I should. The Son agreed. Why? Why? Why did I agree? The Father should have. It was his plan, after all. He could have done it. But no. No. He doesn’t have the patience, does he? And the Son is the planner. Yes. That is why I agreed. I had no choice.
What is happening now? I msut look, must see. But I cannot take the risk. No, no, not now. He might sense me. Oh.. I wish I could just rip his mind out, but I have not the skills or the need. The Father would. Oh, yes. He would. But he is not here, and I am not him. They should be glad. But no. No. They aren’t. But how could they, not knowing I was here?
I hear something. How is that possible? Is he pulling me into his mind more, or am I taking over? I don’t know. I should! I should know! Why? Why don’t I know what is happening? But I do! I do! I can hear them. One.. the bird? Possible. I can’t tell anymore. One is making jokes, I think. I don’t hear laughter. Odd. Strange. Do they not express amusement the same way we do?
No, the boy is laughing. I can feel it. It’s an interesting sensation. It tingles. Perhaps that is just how I sense it, however. I think that it is a vibration of some sort. I don’t know. How can I know, trapped like this? But the Son says to wait, so wait I shall.

Kayne was even more on edge than usual, Kit noted. That, however, was to be expected, with the empty buildings all around them. They were cracked and silver-gray, just like the rest of this world. Spines covered them, making the domed things look like shells. They were crammed tight against each other, spines creating bridges from one shell to the next, the levels and pathways interweaving in a way that made Kit’s head spin.
Kayne was hissing at shadows, leaping at anything that skittered, which Kit thought was rather silly, seeing as the demons could kill any one of them easily. He’s probably counting on us to come help him if anything really does attack, he thought. Hyote would go. Chase probably would. Jason can’t do anything in a fight. And I don’t know what I would do.
The sound of their paws hitting the silver stuff echoed, as did Kayne’s growls and, to a lesser extent, Chase’s wingbeats. None of them spoke. None of them wanted to, lest they attract the demons. A tall spire rose about the shells, and that was what they designated as their target. Chase led the way, rising above the shells to see where it was, and then descending to lead them closer.
It was even more unreal, even more dreamlike than it had been. Kit whispered prayers in his mind, keeping a list of how many times he had said each one, trying to stave off paranoia. Kayne, he could tell, was making so such effort. Chase had no need to. And Hyote and Jason, he didn’t know. Hyote seemed his normal laughing self, but how much of that was a façade, a mask he wore to hide his fear from himself and from others?
Chase descended, leading them on. Kit could close his eyes in these gullies and still walk in the right direction, guided by Kayne’s harsh breathing. He tried that once, and then stopped, even more paranoid than before. Now, the sound of Jason tripping, a resounding bang, made Kayne leap over his head, and him to crouch down, spinning to face the noise.
When they saw it was just Jason, face red and embaressed, neither said anything, merely returning to their prior positions. Sometimes they leapt at their own reflections, distorted and bleached of all color by the silver. At other times, they leapt at nothing, hearing their own noise echoing back at them. None of it made them any less paranoid.
They were nearing the tower, now able to see it without cresting the shells, and the hissing sounds increased, along with the rapidness and the volume of Kayne’s breathing. At last, Kit spoke, breaking their self-imposed silence. “Kit. Be quiet. Your breathing is as annoying as the skittering.”
Kayne whirled, panting. “You.. you can’t see them, can you?” he whispered, eyes darting from side to side. “The sources of those noises. They’re there. They’re hiding from us, but they’re there.”
“Calm down, Kayne.” Kit turned to face the voice. Jason? Why- “It won’t do you any good.” The boy wore a calm expression, calmer than it should be. “We know you can see us.” Hyote was growling, the fur on the back of his neck standing up. “And you can’t do anything about us.” Jason smiled maddeningly, a smirk that irritated even Kit.
“Who are you?” Kayne asked, breath coming hard and fast. “What do you want?”
“I am Haniow, and I want your soul.” At last, Haniow is a part of this. ^_^ I am happy. Now, to try and figure out how much of Nacrido still lives in Kit. I can't figure out what's happening next until I do, which is sort of annoying, but hey, at least I know what I want to happen. Sort of, at least. ^_^

*growls* Thank you for being so utterly creepy, Nacrido.
“I am Haniow, and I want your soul.” The beast – Kit couldn’t see him as a true creature anymore, possesed by this demon as he was – gestured, and little bugs, like the ones that they had killed out on the plains, came over the tops of the shells.
Kayne leapt at the boy, fire blazing from his paws. Kit was rooted to the spot, even though he wanted to move, wanted to demand that the demon explain what was going on. The boy dodged Kayne, rolling under him. A blade appeared in his hand, a darker, less reflective gray than the silvery stuff around him, but similar.
He could see Hyote try to speak and fail, Chase try to dive, and her wings resist. The only players in this battle were to be Kayne and the demon infested boy, it seemed. Fire rolled out from Kayne until he seemed to be made of fire, and and the demon rolled on the ground, avoiding Kayne’s blows, silver spines appeared, blades that were as much a part of his body as they would be on a demons true form.
The spines – armour, really – resisted fire, keeping the demon safe. Kit growled, and then stopped, surprised that he could do that. Carefully, he began trying to move. It was odd. The faster he moved, the harder it was. The slower, the easier, to a point. That point was were he moved slowly enough to fall over, by which time it sort of didn’t help to be moving, anyway.
Once he thought he was close enough, Kit stopped, lying down. That would make him less likely to fall over, if not make it easier. The spell that bound them had a sense of humor, it seemed, for if he fell, it would not stop him, letting gravity take him to the ground, though stopping him when he tried to save himself.
Lying down, eyes closed, Kit could see the battle clearly. Kayne with his fire and wind, the demon in the form of a little boy, dancing and dodging around the cougar. He breathed slowly, concentrating on getting the spell right. He would only have one chance, and that was only if he could connect to the Gaia in a world as desolate as this.
He could hear her in his head, a steady heartbeat that resonated at the base of his skull. He reached for the power, and began weaving it, forming it into a net of energy. Wind and earth energy, to be specific. Though those two elements rarely agreed, no element liked the demons, and they cooperated willingly, forming the two halves of the trap.
He released the energy, opening his eyes as he did so. Wind and stones swirled around the two gladiators, trapping each in the element that opposed them the most: Wind holding Kayne in the air, earth forming a coffin of stone around the demon. Kit stood, the spell around him broken. “By lightning, rain, and thunder, what in the nine hells was that about?”
“About?” The demons voice was calm, a cool and cold as ice. “It was about nothing. I merely stated the facts, and that creature decided to attack.” The demons tone projected that if it could have shrugged, it would have. “What is your reason for stopping that fine battle?”
“Because he is neccesary,” Kit said. “We need him, if our plans are to succeed.” He recognized that tone, that voice. That blasted demon was back.
“Ah. Yes, you know of them, don’t you?” Haniow said thoughtfully, turning to face Kit. “I’d wondered, when you began to move. I knew that you were there. How did you survive? I thought I heard you die.”
“You may have.” Kit concentrated, trying to stop Nacrido from taking control once more. Stop that, Nacrido whispered in his mind. It tickles “I did not, however, die. They succeeded in destroying my physical manifestation, however. I am now limited to my ghost form.”
The stones around Haniow melted away, and the demon turned to face Kit. “Good,” he said, almost purring. “Very good. Take those two away. Give them to Ranaki. He will find uses for them.” His voice sharpened, and a malicious grin spread across his face. “I want the cougar, however. He is most.. intertaining.”
Kit could hear Hyote whimper, and wanted leap for Haniow, kill him at any cost, but Nacrido kept him still. “As you wish, my master.” Kit stretched into a bow. “Though I warn you: the cougar is the most powerful one of them, when he is enraged.”
“I know, I know.” Haniow waved his hand lazily. “Go on now. Shoo.”
Kit turned, feeling the alien sensation of Nacrido controlling him. You know, you should be used to this by now, Nacrido said, amused. I’ve certainly done this enough.
Kit dove into his mind, not caring about what was going on in the world around him. Nacrido would take care of that, he figured. “Done what enough?” he demanded, appearing in the boneyard that Nacrido had made the time before. “Controlled me?”
“You didn’t notice?” Nacrido laughed. “We’ve been controlling you all along. Haven’t you noticed?”
“Oh?” Kit paced around the demon, ignoring its stare. “Seeing as you only showed up with the boy, how could you have been here since Haven’s creation?”
“Simple. We know who created that world. Gaia and Erebus and all the others.” Nacrido spit on the ground. “You should know how much we hate them.”
“You had you reasons. I may not agree with those reasons, but I heard them and I remember them.”
“Oh? Other than that we hated you gods, you have not heard our reasons.” Nacrido started pacing. “You have met one of our gods. Haniow. The Spirit. I admit, he is the odd one out of the gods. Aganon and Ranaki are focused on reality. Haniow walks a think line on the edge of insanity. Yes, this is normal for the Spirit, but Haniow disturbs even the other gods.”
“Who are you talking about?”
“Hm? You don’t know them? Oh, yes. I forgot. The cat would.”
“Hey! I’m a cat.”
“Oh, so sorry. The cougar, then.”
“His name is Kayne.”
“So? He’d know Aganon. So would the coyote. The cougar may know of Ranaki. You only know me.” Nacrido smiled, moving closer to Kit. “But of those with high ranks, I am the sanest.”
“Oh? Then why are you telling me all this?”
“Because even though I’m the sanest, that’s not saying much.” Nacrido laughed, and bloody flowers blossomed on the bone trees. “I am who I am. Ranaki keeps Aganon in line. I do the same for Haniow, though my rank is technically lower than his.”
“You didn’t stop him from taking Kayne.” Kit’s voice was infused with bitterness, and the flowers on the trees wilted and died, turning the rusty color of dry blood. “Why?”
“Because he would have killed you otherwise. And I don’t want that. You are far too interesting and entertaining to die so soon.” Nacrido leaned closer, his face right in front of Kit. The demon smiled, form changing to that of a gray leopard, eyes a sparkling and rather demented silver. “And, of course, there are personal stakes.”
“What do you mean?” Kit asked, backing up. “What stakes?” Nacrido’s eyes stared into his, burning so brightly. He couldn’t take his eyes off of the demon, and for ever step moved back, Nacrido followed, staying a few inches in front of him. He could smell metallic breath with a faint hint of fire, and an odd musk, similar, but not quite like what he had sometimes scented on Kayne.
“Stakes that you will never know, unless you give in to us.” Such a soft voice, such a quiet tone. Kit shivered, wanting to turn, to run, but held fast by those shining eyes. “You want to know. You want to understand us. You want to be a part of us, to control us the way that we have controlled you. I can see it in your eyes, in your movements. You want us to be yours.”
“No.” Kit’s breath came quickly, harsh and panting. “I.. I don’t want to be yours. I- I-”
“Oh, so you admit it?” Deep laughter rolled out of Nacrido’s throat, and Kit closed his eyes and the demon paced around him, sleek, soft fur brushing against him. The tip of Nacrido’s tail curled around his neck, right below his chin. “You want us, don’t you?”
“N- n-”
“Just because you can’t admit it doesn’t mean that you don’t want it.” Kit opened his eyes to find Nacrido right in front of him once more, a tiny little smile on his face that was somehow even more repellant than his words. “Come on. Nobody will hate you for saying it, kitten.”
“I am not a kitten!” Kit cried, leaping forward to attack the demon.
Nacrido purred, jumping up to meet him. “No. You are my kitten.” They twisted in the air, and when they landed, Nacrido lay on top of Kit. Kit struggled, trying to get out from under the demon. “What’s wrong, kitten? Don’t you like me?”
“No. I don’t.” Kit’s teeth snapped in the air next to Nacrido’s ear. “In fact, I hate you.”
“So much venom!” The laughter in those words made Kit want to kill the demon even more than before. “Are you sure you aren’t hiding something?”
“Very.” Fire billowed off of Kit, and Nacrido rolled off of him, still laughing.
“Enough is enough,” he said. “We have arrived at the Spire.” That goes up to where I am right now. So.. yeah. Nacrido is scary. EDIT:: Added in the rest of that section. ^_^ One of the better ones, really. Nice and creepy.

My characters are making me a better plot than I could ever have come up with on my own. ^_^ “What is Aganon going to do to them?”
“Nothing too bad, I hope. Their bodies still need to work once all this is over.”
“That’s very reassuring,” Kit said, pacing in front of Nacrido. “So long as keep keeps them alive and functioning, it’s all fine, but how does he know when they’re about to die?”
Nacrido shrugged. “No idea, but he knows. It’s probably something to do with him being the Father.”
“What does being an avatar do to you, anyway?”
“It makes us insane,” Nacrido replied instantly. “The more the god is worshipped on his own, the crazier they get. That’s why Ranaki is almost sane. Few people worship the Son on his own. The Spirit and the Father, however, do.”
“So Aganon and Haniow are insane. I wouldn’t have guessed,” Kit said sarcastically.
Nacrido laughed. “So nice having you around. You’re so much more fun than any of the others.” The demon was back to being a gray leopard, lying on a pile of bones. Kit paced in circles around him, trying to ignore the silver eyes that were boring into his side. “Kit, when we find Kayne and Haniow, do you want to watch what I do?”
“Why would I?”
“Why wouldn’t you?”
“True. What are you going to tell Haniow, anyway?”
Nacrido shrugged. “Not much. Just that Ranaki wants the cougar, Aganon has the other specimens, and he should probably go help them prepare.”
“Prepare for what?”
“For fully opening the Gates.” Nacrido stood and began walking towars the now still Kit. “Aganon could only manifest because he’s an avatar. I could only be there because they planted me in Kayne’s mind, and you took me in to yours.” He purred. “Thank you for that, by the way. Once we open the Gates, we will all be able to manifest in Haven.”
“Why do you want Haven?”
“To annoy the esheor, mostly. Once we have Haven, we can use the Gates to find them.”
“What are the esheor?” Kit asked, backing up from Nacrido a bit.
“They created Haven.” Nacrido sat down, staring Kit in the eyes. “They created us, to some extext.” His voice was bitter as he continued. “We created them. They created us. The gods created us both. It doesn’t matter by this point. What does matter is that somehow along the line, the esheor decided they hated us. Or we decided to wated them. I don’t know which.”
“So you fought.”
“Yes. The only reason we aren’t fighting right now is because the gods sealed us off from each other. We were sent to this desolate place, the esheor to some world beyond the Gates.” Nacrido laughed. “The Gates were originally meant as a way for us to keep in contact, but not touch each other.”
“Are you saying that Haven is a transition point between the worlds?”
“N- Yes, I suppose I am,” Nacrido said thoughtfully. “Why?”
“Because on the other side of the Gates, until you came, at least, was Earth.” Kit spoke rapidly, trying to figure it out as he spoke. “Jason, the boy, came from Earth. So, does that mean that humans are esheor? That would explain why they weren’t allowed throught the Gates.”
“Perhaps. But why did you come through the Gates?”
“I don’t know why they let us through. Nobody does. They just do. We all came through when we were afraid for our lives, usually running from the humans. But how did the necklace get to Earth, then?”
“I don’t know. It was probably a holdover from when Earth was separated from Haven and Kadaeoni. The gods would have given us ways to apologize, if we ever felt like it.”
“So now you have a way to Earth,” Kit said, disgusted. “Kayne will like that. He hates humans.”
“Haniow will like that. Now be quiet. I’d rather not have distractions while I talk to Haniow.”
“As you wish.”

Ranaki was still approaching the Gate slowly, almost reverently, and the other two were silently flanking him. Actually, all of them were silent, without even the almost inaudible hiss that sand made when something left its embrace.
Then the demon touched the Gate, and it flared, pure white light envoloping Ranaki. Kayne closed his eyes, but even so, it was blinding. He couldn’t imagine what it would be like for the demon, even if it didn’t see the way he did, to be so close to it.
When the light finally faded, Kayne couldn’t see any of the demons, except possibly Nacrido, but even so, that might just be Kit. The balefire shackles around his legs was gone, and he could see Hyote standing up, his own bonds obviously gone.
“So. They’re gone now,” Nacrido said. “From this world, at least. I wonder whether they ended up in Haven or on Earth.”
“So do I,” Kayne said. “If they’re in Haven, I hope they die. If they’re on Earth, then I hope they kill lots of humans before they die.”
“Vengeful, aren’t you?” Hyote said, coming over to them. “Why, one would never expect this of you, dear Kayne, so sweet and-”
“Shut up!”
Nacrido started laughing. “We should follow them,” he said, walking towards the Gate. Kayne and Hyote followed. Kayne walked slowly, and the closer he got to the Gate, the slower he wanted to walk. He could sense Hyote’s revulsion, too, and that didn’t help his nervousness.
When Nacrido touched the Gate, they were about a body-length behind him. Well, a cougar body length behind, assuming you counted the tail. If not, then about two body lengths. But anyway, the light still enveloped them, and Kayne screamed at the pain of it.
It was intense. It felt like falling through water, but sort of better. Cleaner. Kayne would have growled, but this place, whatever it was, wouldn’t like that, so he didn’t, though how a place could not like something, he had no idea. But it didn’t, so he didn’t, and all was happy.
Until they fell out of it, at least. Then it wasn’t so happy. Kayne appeared first, and Hyote fell on top of him. Then Nacrido appeared and almost squashed them both, but thankfully for Kayne and Hyote, he was a bit off, and thus landed on the thin layer of ash covering the canyon floor. This made a rather nice thump. Um. The end is sleep deprived rambling so that I hit my goal. xD It's rather funny, or at least my sleep deprived mind thinks so. ^_^

Ranaki turned to face them. “Hello,” he said. “The view here, while good, is rather depressing. This beautiful landscape, marred by such unsightly buildings.” Ranaki shuddered. “How can they stand it? The stink, the ruined beauty, and by the Trinity, the smells!”
“Yes, Taint,” Kit said calmly. “I told you about it, remember?”
“Hm? Oh, yes. When Aganon was distracting us with his horrible devices. Have you found Aganon? He was planning on digging a hideout for us.” Ranaki sighed, shaking his head. “I told him that it wouldn’t work.”
See? I told you that he was doing something like that.
Kit ignored Nacrido’s comment. “It didn’t.”
“What did you do with him? I admit, he was rather uncontrolled, but he was not that stupid.”
“He fought. You would need to ask Nacrido about the details. I was a bit too busy trying to find any magic left in this world to use.”
“So he’s dead, then?” Ranaki didn’t seem very concerned. “I thought he might be. No signals, but with this world the way it is, I’m not surprised. How difficult was he to kill?”
A bit tougher than I thought, but not too bad. Ranaki will be harder, I’m sure.
“Not that hard.” Kit shrugged. “Why do you ask?”
“No reason.” Ranaki stared out over the view again. “I was wondering. Why did you come here? It wouldn’t be worth most people’s time. So why is it worth yours?”
“Because I don’t want you to kill everything,” Kit said simply. “The same reason why I would try and keep Kayne from coming here. Even though this world is Tainted, even though there people here don’t live with the land and its magic, they still deserve to live.”
“So.. even with everything, you still try to save them?” Ranaki laughed. “You’re more of an idiot than I thought you were.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Because you choose to waste your life to save people who don’t even know about the Gates.” Ranaki shook his head. “You’re just.. so utterly stupid that I can’t describe it.”
“If by ‘stupid’ you mean ‘self-sacrificical’, then yes, I am. But that’s not how you mean it. I don’t care. Why do you want to kill everything that lives here, anyway?”
“Who ever said I wanted to kill them? I just want them to serve the Lord and His Trinity.”
“Good luck. You’ll end up slaughtering them. They’ll attack you before you can begin preaching to them, and I doubt they’ll understand you, anyway.”
“You underestimate the power of the dark side of the Force Trinity,” Ranaki said loftily.
“Your Trinity was broken with the death of Aganon. Whatever god inhabited him must find a new victim, and that one will not be on this world, this plane. You only have the strength of two, if any at all.”
“Oh? Then what do you say to this?” Ranaki slashed his hand through the air, obviously trying to create some sort of magical effect. The air around his fingers fizzled, creating a hissing sound, and then died. Ranaki stared at his fingers. “It- it didn’t work.”
Kit began laughing, forcing words out. “What did you expect? Thunder and lightning?”
“Well.. yes. That was sort of the point.” The look on Ranaki’s face was amazing. One wouldn’t think that a creature so insectoid could have expressions, but Ranaki did. He looked like he was in either shock or disbelief, if not both. “If our powers are deserting us.. then what will happen to Kadaeoni?”
“Don’t worry about them. They have a direct connection to your power source. But you’re through the Gates. If you even had power to begin with, then it was destroyed with Aganon.”
“May I kill you now?” Ranaki said, looking up from his hand. “I’d really like to.”
“I’d rather you not kill me, but you may try to if you want.”
“Oh, good.” .. random idiotic arguments about nothing are fun. So are random references to Star Wars. And strange descriptions that add nothing to the story other than words and make me laugh.

*collaspes* Win. I win. 50,153 words. ^___^ “And so it stands, and so it shall be.” A woman made out of sunlight and vines spoke to the darkness around her, looking at a model of three spheres: One bleak and gray, two marbled balls of green and blue, one with clearer skies. “They have chosen separation.”
“What of the two who willingly bind themselves?” A deep voice came out of the shadows, and they almost formed the outline of a wolf, lighter eyes staring out. “What shall we do to them?”
“They may choose their path. In fact,” the woman said, smiling, “I think they already have. They choose to live in Haven, and I think that Nacrido has found a way to live apart from my mage. And yes,” she added, “I will let him go now. It is not necessary to keep him bound as my avatar. He has used the power I gave him as he needed to, and now he holds everything he must.”
“And now we will let the worlds flow as they will, and let them find their own paths through the darkness to the light.”
“Exactly. I gave them a gift, and they have seen joy in it”
The shadows laughed. “Ah, how I wish I could roam the lands with them.”
“We bound ourselves here, Erebus. Never forget that. We chose not to interfere, and we shall not. We promised them and ourselves.”
“Of course, of course.” Erebus sighed. “Come, Gaia. Let us walk the path we have chosen.”
She laughed. “Of course.”
The two forms faded, leaving only the globes, and the star-speckled darkness, free of shadow. The globes spun, oblivious to each other, the shining golden lines that had once connected them now gone, banished in to the stars. Oh yes. No idea how many of these are posted, but hey. I want to have these somewhere where they'll be preserved. 10,000th word: Fire (“– you can change reality. Fire-”)(Section 8) 20,000th word: even (“.. blue background for them, it’s even prettier.”)(Section 20) 30,000th word: us (“.. other than that some of us can govern ..”)(Section 30) 40,000th word: and (“We will be able to use the bird and dog ..”)(Section 44) 50,000th word: with (“Ah, how I wish I could roam the lands with them.”)(Epilogue) And Kitkit, once I've gone through and found all the typos and stuff that I can, I'll send this to you, if you tell me how.

And Kitkit, once I've gone through and found all the typos and stuff that I can, I'll send this to you, if you tell me how. =D .. yay. I guess you could send it over MSN, or upload it somewhere and PM me the link. .. Or you could send a lot of PMs. xD

So, because I was curious, I went through this and figured out how many times each character gets to be a viewpoint.
Kayne: 15 Kit: 12 Jason: 9 Hyote: 7 Ranaki: 3 Aganon: 3 Haniow: 2 Nacrido: 1 The gods: 1 Nilihin: 1 Kun: 1 Chase: 1 Liara: 1
I'm oddly disappointed that Kit didn't get thirteen sections. xD Oh, and with Ranaki and Aganon, they each only really get one. I just split up the sections where they're talking and there's no way to tell which one it is equally between them.
