Soo... my dilemma!
I have two ideas, and I dunno which one I want to use for Nano. Up until five minutes ago, I was set on one of the ideas... but now, I'm not so sure. I'm going to use one of them as warm-up idea (maybe 25k throughout October), and one as my official Nano. Only problem is, I don't know which.
Idea 1 is a futuristic YA that takes place in what is essentially Earth, but it has made-up countries and stuff. I'm thinking it's anywhere from 100-300 years in the future; I haven't decided that yet. Anyway, there's a catastrophic war between two countries, ongoing for many, many years. The MC is a girl called Kristie Shea who lives in Country A and was abducted by the enemy soldiers when she was maybe 8-10. She's been kept in relative isolation since then, and the government of the enemy country has used her as a propaganda tool. They basically say they rescued her, or something, and plaster her face to posters with a fake sob story, in an effort to recruit more for their own army. Something like that. Anyway, when Kristie is maybe 14-16, she kills a soldier guard person and escapes, and it would basically be about her trying to let the truth out and get back to her own country, which is no easy feat, as the entire army is looking for her. I'm thinking maybe she gets taken in by an anti-war group, but... I dunno. The idea is kind of vague right now. xD
Idea 2 is a drama/mystery that takes place in present-day Earth. It's about a girl called Linnet (Linny), and when she was younger, her older twin brothers, Nicky and Jonas, murdered Nicky's ex-girlfriend and her parents. I haven't decided how, but Linny witnessed the murders. However, she's really young (8 or 9 maybe?), and she's too terrified to tell. Meanwhile, the police don't find any evidence linking Nicky or Jonas to the crime, and they really don't even become prime suspects. But then, when Linny's 12-15, Nicky finds faith or something and confesses to the murders. However, he doesn't say that Jonas took part as well, and just Nicky gets indicted. Linny's family kind of starts falling apart after the indictment, and her parents are all suspicious of Jonas because the twins were really close and told everything to each other. Somehow, Linny ends up telling Jonas what she saw (I'm thinking in a moment of freaked out-ness or something), and Jonas thinks she's going to turn him in. So he basically drags her away from home and across the country, against her will, and he gets them fake IDs, changes their hair, etc. Linny really wants to leave, but she loves Jonas, and it's kind of about her struggle in the 'new life' she's been forced into.
... so. My ideas. I dunno what to do. Help? D:

Both are really interesting. I think the first one would make an excellent plot for your NaNo! At least you have ideas. I'm still not sure what I want to do.

Yeah, ideas are great until you get a million of them. xD Thanks for your input. My problem is I know that once I start... I'll wanna do the other one. Or if I do one for the warm-up, I'll say "I should have done that for Nano!" xD Anyone else have an opinion? ^_^

Ah. Well after NaNo's over you could always go back to the other one and continue writing. Who knows? You might have a bestseller in hand.

Lol Linny. XD
If you're good at world building, I'd say go with numero uno. Otherwise, 2 is a potentially good idea, too.

I just wouldn't be able to write it without that. <3 Anyway, I've decided on the idea with Linny for now. I may change my idea in the future (probably October 31) but... for now, second idea! xD

So, I had a major breakdown tonight and don't want to use any idea I have at all. Now I'm kind of... blah.

Well, I just thought up a new idea that relates to an opening line that popped into my head last night! ^_____^ Sorry for the crappy summary, but I hope it turns out cool (if I don't abandon it like the others XD).
--
What if imaginary friends were not just figments of a child's imagination? Instead, they're the souls of children and teens who died young but messed up badly in the short lives they had-- misdeeds that gave them a one-way ticket to hell. However, because these children and teens died so young, they're given one last chance of redemption: become the 'guardian angel' to a young child somewhere on Earth, one who has a troubled life. If they steer this child on the right path, or at least give them some company through troubled days, they can reverse that one-way ticket to hell and turn it into a ticket to heaven. The story follows a boy called Dan (but that might change) who died at 14 or 15, and he had a really rotten life. He was a petty thief turned accidental murderer, and he died during a botched burglary in which he accidentally killed a snoopy neighbour. Dan's last chance for heaven is Julius, a five-year-old boy with a life too messed up for words. The story basically starts with Dan becoming Julius' 'guardian angel' (invisible friend) for the selfish reason that he doesn't want to go to hell, and then it morphs to where he really cares about the kid... but stuff happens - you know, conflicts - and Dan has to possibly make a decision that will put him back in hell but will end up saving Julius. And he has to decide what's more important: himself, or the kid he was sent to save.

Really cheesy, I know. xD

I still don't know if I'm going to go through with doing NaNo.. xD

..... That's actually a really, REALLY cool idea, Carey. =D You should do that one, it'd be awesome. I still don't know if I'm going to go through with doing NaNo.. xD Thanks Squiesh! ^_^ I've thought a lot more about this idea today, and I've molded it a bit into something less cliche. x3 I'm actually pretty excited for Nano now. I also thought of a third supporting character-- another 'invisible friend', a girl around Dan's age who is protecting a little girl in the building Julius lives in. She can be another character for Dan to interact with, as before, the only person he could talk to was... Julius. x3 I haven't named her so far, but yeah. And that will also help me show how kids can only see their 'angel'-- like Julius can see Dan but not this girl, and the child the girl's protecting can't see Dan. x3 EDIT - So, here are my characters so far. x3 Name: Dan Chase Age: 14 Appearance: Shaggy brown hair, hazel eyes, tall, thin, pale Dan is the main character, killed during a botched robbery when an angry homeowner runs after him and accidentally shoves him out a window-- ten stories up. Guardian angel, or invisible friend, to Julius. While alive, Dan wasn't necessarily bad... he just got pulled into some nasty things. x3
Name: Julius Finley Age: 5 Appearance: Curly blonde hair, blue eyes, short, chubby Kid Dan's sent to protect. He's got a very messed up life; his mom is a manipulative, sadistic woman who lives off the spoils from a nasty divorce from Julius's dad, who is an equally as big jerk. The dad is nowhere in the picture anymore, but there's boyfriends of the mother floating in and out-- a new one basically each week. Julius is a very broken kid, and he kind of lives in his own little world. A bit of a dreamer, but very hardened for his age.
Unnamed (the other 'invisible friend') Age: 15 Appearance: Have yet to decide This is my kind of mystery character so far. I'm not sure much about her, other than she's the invisible friend of a young girl who lives in the apartment across the hall from Julius. She develops a sort of odd relationship with Dan, as beyond their respective 'charges', they can't talk to anyone else. Additionally, the kids can't see the other one's invisible friends (so Julius can't see her). I'm not sure what kind of character she'll be, but I'm kind of preparing for a very snarky, bitter girl who possibly died in a car crash.
Name: Marley Bruce Age: 6 Appearance: Curly light brown hair, brown eyes, short, thin, tan Marley is the unnamed girl's charge. x3 She won't be a major character, just a kind of background for the girl. I'm not sure what else about her is interesting. xD
... so, yeah.
