Forum Nickname: Ikkin Species: Kitsune Transformations: 9-tailed Fox (very uncommon); as a 9-Tailed fox, is able to transform into anything natural (...yes, demons/fae/whatever count) Appearance and Clothing: Long feathered light-brown hair, hazel-brown eyes, light skin, medium sized. Wears a blue tunic with sleeves that end at her elbows, a dark blue hakama, and even darker blue gloves that come up past her elbows. Her clothes are imbued with magical abilities that allow them to harden into armor to protect her when struck; unfortunately, this has the disadvantage of restricting her movement and increasing the clothes' weight just like normal armor would. Character type: Knight of Meridell/Pirate/Air Mage/Firebender Weapon of Choice: Purplish crystalline sword perfect for channeling air elemental magic (looks like a mix between a katana and a cutlass, with a katana-shaped blade that's a little bit shorter than a katana, a pommel like a knight's sword, and a hand-guard like a cutlass) Magical capabilities: Ikkin uses a special type of magic created by the kitsune which involves the manipulation of matter on the microscopic level by imposing the power of the will on the physical world. As a kitsune, she is a natural user of fire magic, but her training was focused more on air magic, and so some of her most impressive magics are related to air rather than fire. The instinctual nature of her fire magic allows her to integrate it more seamlessly with her physical fighting, however, so she often uses fire magic in conjunction with swordfighting. Despite the reputation for illusion-making that kitsune have, Ikkin isn't actually very good at this. She could possibly create an illusion of another person, but it wouldn't last very long and wouldn't be able to interact with the physical world. For smaller illusions, she has better luck - she could create the illusion of a stick that could hold her own weight, for instance - but she generally does not do this if it is not absolutely necessary, because it's some of the most difficult magic she knows. Ikkin is very skilled at reading other people's magical signatures/auras, and can even determine who most non-magicians are by their latent magical power. As a shapeshifter, Ikkin can only change to her kitsune form while in human form; in kitsune form, however, she can shift into anything natural/supernatural (any person, animal, rock, etc.). She tends to avoid doing this as well, because she likes her human form a lot, and Sev tends to get annoyed with her when she changes. Personality: Highly loyal and stubborn, Ikkin fights to the bitter end for any cause that she thinks is right or any person who she thinks of as a friend. She knows this, however, and tends to avoid getting involved if it looks like someone else is handling the situation, but she remains on the lookout in case her help is needed. Being a kitsune, she has a great liking for cleverness, and likes to try to come up with witty replies whenever she can, even when it might be best to keep her mouth shut (whether or not she succeeds in actually being witty is a different question, however). She's very curious and likes to get to the bottom of any situation that comes up, regardless of whether it's actually important, and she'll sometimes waste more time than is necessary on finding out about the workings of the forum. This leads her to analyze the different kinds of magic around the forum, which can be useful, but it can also get her into some sticky situations. She can be fairly long-winded in explaining the things that she analyzed, though she hasn't yet gotten to the point where she adds in pie charts and annotated bibliographies. Ikkin tends to resort to violence more quickly than absolutely necessary, usually in the interest of getting her point across more easily - she feels that a swift thwack on the head tends to be more effective than explaining her annoyance in words, and her temper easily flares out of control. However, she does not resort to lethal force unless it's entirely necessary or she's severely provoked (in which case, she tends to just summon Sev and let him do the dirty work for her). If she does lose control, however, she usually has Sev set things right again; the lack of control is probably at least partly related to the lack of real consequences to her actions. Tabloid Data:Rivalries: Has a bit of a friendly rivalry with Hu. Mother: Leoness Father: Most likely Strife Siblings: Too many to count. Ask Leoness. XD (Includes Rider, KitC, and the Spirit of the Bloids, though) Children: Thundy, Bag (adopted), and Dragon (adopted in an attempt to avoid unwanted marriage proposals) Significant Other: None Sev: A snarky, sarcastic phoenix who was magically created by the grey magic at the Edge of the NTWF from Ikkin's memories of phoenixes. Ikkin offered to bind her soul to his to keep him from fading in return for the revival of Kiddo, and he's been with her ever since. Sev's original personality was pulled together from elements of Ikkin's own personality (particular the fiery traits), as well as some more villainous traits drawn from other phoenixes and people Ikkin associated with phoenixes. His soul has been slowly changed by its proximity with Ikkin's, however, and his darker impulses have been softened considerably as elements from Ikkin's soul started to replace the false soul he was created with. He has a real soul of his own now, and could survive without the bond to Ikkin if he wanted to, but they've become so similar that he has no motivation to leave her. His fire can either consume everything, like other phoenix fire on the NTWF (which he has even tested on the walls of Mod Squad), or bring back the dead. His tears have healing properties, but getting him to cry is a definite task. Rae: Rae is a little orphan phoenix who showed up in the eastern forest of the NTWF and insists that Sev is his father. He isn't Sev's biological son, but, as Sev realized, that's not really important. Rae is very young and is still learning how to use his magic. He can't resurrect people, but his tears still have some healing properties. He can't teleport, either. While he can speak clearly, he's still rather immature, and shifts between emotional poles quickly. He's very energetic, and normally is very happy, almost contagiously so. You don't want to upset him, though. He cries easily. He's afraid of blood and people who are hurt, so he doesn't make a very good healer.

Very slight modification, but I'd had this in mind ever since Wandy did the Kyubi thing when he became a full-mod and dubbed me an eight-tail fox:
My kitsune form now has nine tails. And, no, the timing isn't coincidental. XD

Because the personality segment of my profile needs a major re-do so it can actually be used as a character -
Personality: Highly loyal and stubborn, Ikkin fights to the bitter end for any cause that she thinks is right or any person who she thinks of as a friend. She knows this, however, and tends to avoid getting involved if it looks like someone else is handling the situation, but she remains on the lookout in case her help is needed. A better explanation of Ikkin's magical capabilities:
As a kitsune, Ikkin's only real magical capabilities are the creation of fire, shapeshifting, and the ability to create illusions. Kitsune illusions, however, are very powerful, and are able to physically affect the world around the kitsune, becoming physical reality through belief in them. A kitsune with perfect power over their illusion ability could create the illusion that you were dead, and you'd die.
Ikkin has nowhere near that amount of power, however. Most of her training of her illusion ability is focused on allowing her to use other forms of magic - hence, her ability to use fire (a la Avatar: the Last Airbender's Firebending) and air magic in such an unusual way. She could use those types of magic in other ways if she wanted, but she prefers to do it this way.
She doesn't have nearly as much practice in creating other kinds of illusions, however, which is why she tends to avoid using them. She almost never uses other kinds of magic besides fire and air, but she might create other kinds of illusions if she's desperate.
Some more about Sev's origins:
Before Ikkin came to the NTWF, she knew another phoenix called Ineves (this will be explained in my origin story); her memories of this phoenix were the base used by the magic of the Edge to create Sev. The Edge rarely created actual sentient beings, because of its nature to create things out of incomplete memories. Because Ikkin is a kitsune, however, her memory was forced into something real rather than something incomplete. Most other being created out of memories by the Edge are clearly not full individuals - they act in highly set ways, lack free will, and are more like robots than people.

Ikkin is now happily married to Kit. She's also in love with him in the Guild Wars, though the happiness aspect there is less certain. XD

Edit for Sev, to make him less overpowered:
Sev has several major limitations to his reviving abilities. First, while he can revive himself nearly-instantly as long as Ikkin is alive and well due to the soul-bond that ties Sev's soul to the NTWF, this is not as easy for him if Ikkin is hurt. If Ikkin dies, and Sev dies before reviving her, he must wait until the next sunrise to revive himself like a normal phoenix would.
Also, Sev cannot revive anyone past the next sunrise after the person dies - by that point, they would have moved on past the point where Sev could bring them back. This is related to the phoenix's tendency to resurrect themselves at sunrise - they cannot move on and are turned back, so they revive.
Sev's Phoenix Down may or may not be able to revive people past then, depending on whether you consider normal Phoenix Down to be able to.

An explanation of how phoenix fire brings back the dead:
There are two separate parts to the process. First off, healing phoenix fire is still destructive - it incinerates whoever it is meant to revive, and doesn't actually heal them directly. Secondly, the energy in the fire is used to allow the soul of the dead person to re-form its body, effectively bringing the person back to life. This is why being killed and resurrected by phoenix fire gets rid of any infirmities that one might have - the new body would not be effected by these.
The reason why phoenix fire cannot bring someone back past the first dawn after they died is that at that point, the soul moves on and is no longer able to use the energy of the fire to re-form a body. Phoenix Down does not work in the same way, and therefore could, potentially, be used to resurrect someone after this point.

An explanation of Ikkin's magic:
Kitsune in Foxfire, where Ikkin came from, have analyzed magic into somewhat of a science. While they are natural users of fire magic, they were able to study the mechanisms behind their own magic to find out what made it work, and found that their wills have a power over things at a microscopic level. This allowed them to branch into other kinds of magic as well, so they were no longer restricted only to making fire.
The pinnacle of kitsune magic is illusion magic, wherein the kitsune are able to change the reflective/absorption powers of its target to that of what they want to appear and control the structure of the target to make it solid to the touch (or, alternatively, to let things pass through without harming it). This, of course, is very hard to do, and most kitsune don't learn to do this for anything but small objects (like a soccer ball).
All kitsune magic operates on similar principles, though, including Ikkin's fire and air magic, though elemental magic has a tendency to rely on learning patterns rather than careful direct manipulation. She has somewhat greater control over her illusions due to the similarities between air and illusion magic, but would still have trouble creating something the size of a walking stick, and fail completely at anything much larger. Older kitsune, of course, are generally better at this, having more practice.

Just an outfit change for Ikkin: Old outfitAs the Blue Knight of Dunburrow, she wears the color blue prominently in most of her outfits. Her outfit also reflects her allegiances as Pirate and Mage as well, with the pirate aspect being in the appearance of the outfit, and the mage aspect being reflected in the magical properties of the clothing. Ikkin's clothes had a magical spell cast on them so that if she is attacked, the clothes will react by making themselves like armor rather than like cloth. This includes all the disadvantages of armor as well as the advantages, though - while it serves as protection, it feels as heavy as metal and restricts Ikkin's movement somewhat. The effect goes away once Ikkin is no longer in danger, so most of the time, the clothes just feel like normal clothing. (The sections in the first post about Ikkin's magic and Bloidal relations have been updated, as well)

Oooh! Loving the new KnightPirateMage gear. ^_^ This is the outfit she's wearing in Guild Wars 2, yes?
Now I have a solid reason to try and incorporate multiple outfits into the RPG i'm developing. x3

Just a minor modification to Ikkin's outfit. I'm a bit of a perfectionist. >_> Old outfitIt still has the same properties as before, however. The sword's a bit different, however. It can transform between a shorter two-handed form and a longer one-handed form through a mechanism inside the handle. This mechanism is protected by magic, so it won't break or get stuck very easily. In the one-handed form, the point at the end of the hand guard can be used to attack, since it's fairly sharp.

You guessed it - I'm making another outfit change to Ikkin. This should be the last one for a while, though.
I also updated some information on Sev, to better explain what he is.
