Oof. Critic reviews are out, and it doesn't look good. All of them are reporting that Scarlet and Violet are full of jank and run worse than Sword/Shield on its darkest day. (We're talkin' random lag spikes, frequent slide shows as the FPS struggles, the camera breaking during normal gameplay, horrible pop-in for objects right in front of you, lighting glitches, and blurry visuals) 8'D

On one hand, yikes. On the other hand, the games would have to be phenomenally bad in that regard that to give me a less enjoyable experience than Let's Go and BDSP did, so it's not a dealbreaker for me personally. (Like, I just finished Subnautica last night and liked it overall, in spite of all the jank)
Also, just taking a glance at the a list of scores, the games are still getting around 7 - 8, which to me is more along the lines of "has notable issues but is still fun" and not "a complete disaster" at least.
That said, I do still stand by my opinion that Game Freak really needs to stop releasing Pokemon games yearly and spend more time working out these problems. You can't convince me that the world's best selling franchise is in such a flimsy and precarious position that it wouldn't be able to survive without a main series game every single year.

Yeaah. The yearly releases are definitely a product of corporate greed. They won't stop unless something drastic happens at an executive level. Pokemon is a juggernaut of a franchise, and those in charge know they can rush out half-baked, bug riddled games and still easily sell millions of copies for massive profits... This coupled with the consumer-unfriendly practices they've doubled down on for the Switch era... I don't foresee myself getting back into the games any time in the near future.
It's such a shame that this is what Pokemon has become. EDIT: I will say that Sc/Vi does look like a much better-constructed game than Sw/Sh. The open map design and free roam gameplay is what I've always wanted to see in a mainline Pokemon title, plus the reviews had nothing but good things to say about the story and characters... It's just too bad it's all dragged down into the dumpster by the above problems.

Hmm. I'll still pick up my preorder, I get a discount and have never bought a Pokemon game on release day, so I really want to. Hopefully there'll be a solid day one patch or something.

Hopefully there'll be a solid day one patch or something. Unfortunately, it was mentioned by at least one reviewer (Nintendo Life) that their review was written under the context of the day one patch being applied. :'D Hopefully it will be patched soon... if the performance issues are something that can be patched. x_x;

Oof, that does not bode well. Hopefully, the games doesn't run into any major controversies going forward (ie like Dexit for Sw/Sh)

Really enjoying Violet so far! Have played about three hours. Miraidon is so cute and full of personality, and I just met the second form of my lil leafcat, who is just everything I love ahhh.

lol, first day playing Scarlet and I already catch a full-odds Shiny. It's a Murkrow, which also happens to be one of my favorite Pokemon. (Likewise, Honchkrow is my favorite Gen IV Pokemon) I usually enact a rule with myself that the first time I play through a new generation I limit my party to new Pokemon (Or new regional forms) but I think I may have to make an exception here. xD

Glitch compilations on youtube are a thing for Sc/Vi now, and oh boy it's so much more janky than I initially saw from review footage.
Camera mode can teleport/clip you through the floor. but then again, just walking around can also clip you through the floor or walls. ... exiting battles, too. If you connect a second controller and press forward on both controllers' joysticks, your movement speed is doubled. Surprise random crashes. Ride Pokemon sometimes don't load, so trainers will float around on invisible mounts. Trainer models sometimes break horribly and their limbs and head will flail around painfully.
Gen 9 is the glitch game that keeps on giving. Sonic '06 would be proud.

I've heard around that the worst of it is due to a possible memory leak issue. So to mitigate that, I would probably make sure to fully close the game every couple of hours or so. (Honestly, if you ask me you shouldn't be playing games for huge blocks of time like that anyways)
On my end at least, yes the jank is very noticeable and it doesn't leave a good impression, but -knock on wood- I haven't encountered anything actually gamebreaking. The glitches I have found are more on the funny side, if anything. (Like that time I was battling a wild Pokemon in a pond with my Pokemon at the pond's edge, and my Pokemon just slid further into the water as the battle went on)
I'm still fairly early in the game (One Gym and one Titan Pokemon) so I can't give a definitive opinion overall, but my tentative opinion right now is as thus: Performance = Awful / Core Gameplay = Still fun.

Would anyone playing Scarlet and Violet be able to help me evolve a Pokemon, preferably sometime tomorrow? There's a new Pokemon that can only evolve when somebody else is in your Union Circle, so all you'd have to do is just stand there while I Rare Candy the thing. (Though I'd certainly be willing to help with trade evolutions while we're there if you'd like)

I don't follow the anime much (for various reasons), but this is going to be quite the bombshell, hence why I'm putting it in spoilers. Pokemon Journeys, the current series loosely based on Sword and Shield (as well as Pokemon Go, to a lesser extent), will be the final series for Ash Ketchum, and his Pikachu. This bears repeating: Ash and Pikachu will be retiring once the new series, based on Scarlet and Violet, airs Source

We'll be having a Pokemon Presents next week (The 27th) at 6:00 AM PST / 9:00 AM EST. Considering that Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games were announced for Nintendo Switch Online just this past Direct, I'd really love to see Gen I - III released on them. Not to mention that a recent Japanese trailer promoting NSO removed the disclaimer about Pokemon not being transferable into Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2, so I hope that bodes well for the first two generations being compatible with it...
I also wouldn't be surprised to see an announcement of DLC for Scarlet and Violet. Without going into spoiler territory, there is a big mystery in the base games that the story doesn't address, so I would imagine that to be the subject of any DLC. There is something that may have been leaked a few days ago in regards to this upcoming Presents, which I'll put in the spoiler tag below: So apparently on the website made by The Pokemon Company to celebrate this year's Pokemon Day, Spike Chunsoft is listed among the usual copyright stuff. Spike Chunsoft, if you don't know, are the developers of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series. New game? Or an Explorers remake? I'm actually crossing my fingers for the latter; Explorers of Sky is up there as one of my favorite Pokemon spin-offs.

And this, everyone, is why you keep your expectations in check. DLC for Scarlet/Violet looks neat, but geeeeez was that Presents disappointing otherwise.
