Smogon isn't the end-all-be-all of competitive Pokemon, it's just one community.
There's still the official Pokemon tournaments, in-game online battling, and local tournaments/communities.

If you aren't already, anyone here playing Sword and Shield ought to do those Delibird Max Raids that will be popping up until the end of Christmas Day. You get a LOT of Exp. Candy from them, as well as other items. 5-star Delibird raids give six Exp. Candy L and six Exp. Candy XL each, as well as a 100% chance of Ice Beam and Blizzard TRs. (Destiny Knots are also a possible prize, which is good for those that want to do some IV-breeding, but don't have enough Battle Points to buy one or haven't gotten lucky with Pickup)

For those who have a Pokemon Global Link account, just thought I'd let you know that the site will be closing down in Feb 2020. There is however, a final gift, Fennel's Munna. Sort of bookends, seeing as Munna was released when the site was launched for Black and White.

Does anyone have some of those apples that you need to get Flapple?
I think it's Tart Apple?
I have plenty of Sweet ones, but I can't find a Tart one.

doctortomoeTart Apple is exclusive to Sword version, so if you're playing Shield you won't be able to find one and will have to trade for it!

Ah, then I need to find someone who's playing Sword then. I have some that I could spare. I'm going to be gone most of the day today, but perhaps sometime later tonight we could set up a trade?

If there is anybody with Sword, I am also in need of a lot of Sword exclusives. I am so close to completing my Dex for the first time ever (thanks, reduced Dex!)

I'm playing Sword, so I'm happy to help you Shield guys out. (Though like I said above, I'm going to be unavailable for most of today, so we'd have to work out a time later on)
On an unrelated note, there will be a Pokemon Direct on January 9th at 6:30 AM / 9:30 AM, and will last twenty minutes. No word on what it's about, but I would expect HOME to take the spotlight.
A Pokemon Direct is good news for Pokemon fans, but boy is it a bit aggravating for those of us eagerly waiting for a general Nintendo Direct.

No worries, Bluey. ^^ Thank you so much. If there is anything you need from Shield, just say.

Thoughts on the paid DLC? I'm both happy and annoyed. XD I think Arlo summed up my thoughts pretty well in his video. I hope this roster boost means they've rethought their "no game will ever have all Pokemon ever again" stance. As it is now, I'm still not interested in buying SwSh, but if the DLC turns out to be substantial enough to fix the quality issues and provide an engaging endgame, then maybe I will reconsider. It's great that they're putting some effort into it now that they don't have to rush to meet a deadline, but... ehhh... the lingering feeling is that the game should've been this content rich from launch and I don't really want to have to pay a total of $110-ish (Shield: $80 + DLC $30 plus tax) for a slightly more complete game. (Not to mention the additional costs of a potential Home subscription, plus NSO subscription to be able to trade in SwSh. Pay now my Lord!) :X I guess I'll decide when I see what the DLC is like.

I'm honestly pretty irritated. The reasons they gave for leaving the whole dex out of the base game were iffy, considering that models were reused anyway. But I wasn't mad about it at all until I heard about the paid DLC.
They sell us two versions every gen, and that's already a transparent cash grab. But I can live with that, it's tradition at this point and you've always had the option to interact with the community to finish your dex instead. But cutting out part of the pokedex and then selling it back to us? With Pokemon already being as obscenely profitable as it is? Yeah, no. I'm not biting.

I'll post my overall thoughts later, but I would like to point out that this is better than the traditional alternative, which would be a full-priced, separate game that's the same thing as before, but with a bit more stuff. Also worth pointing out that the Pokemon themselves aren't locked behind a paywall, since you can still get them by trade/transfer once the free update comes out for the base games. Which, really, isn't much different then how it was in the past with games following the main pair of a generation. Now, if they were, and the DLC was a sort of "Get the Kanto Pass for $9.99 this June, which will allow all Kanto-native Pokemon to be transferred be the games" deal, then I would have cried foul on that front.

Hmm, DLC is the better alternative, but only if you already own the game. A third version with this DLC as added content would've been a great deal for those like myself who don't yet own the game; I'd only have to pay for a single full-price game instead of a full-priced game plus DLC. X'D
The price also goes up the more copies you have, so if you bought Sword and Shield and want the DLC for both, it's going to set you back $60 (or more, depending on taxes in your location).
