I have marathon'd Book 4. \o/ Behold, a stream of incoherent super-spoilerrific comments!
(Hey, I hadn't even talked about Book 3 to anyone, because I was late watching that one too.
My favourite thing about Book 3... was probably the antagonists. They were too darn likable for antagonists! xDD P'Li in particular gave me so many feels. Ah, and I loved how Kataraang's kids got so much action. Finally, Kya gets to show off.) (Now we have a full set of 4 villains with different ideologies;)
First thing, I liked that they took time to show Korra's convalescence and lasting trauma. Those things are too often skipped.
The image of her past, fearful self haunting her was really striking. It took her a long time but she really has grown. *tempted to go back to the first episode of Book 1 just to compare*
The landscapes are gorg'. I almost pause it sometimes to look at the backgrounds, but the plot must go on.
The trains are gorg'. The mechas' style of animation seemed weird the first time I saw them, but in the finale they seemed more natural.
Is it me or do Tenzin's clothes seem more red than yellow, now? With those new jumpsuits, the Air Nation seems very, uh, red. I liked them better in yellow, they seemed more peaceful. It's kind of fitting, now that they've become more involved in world affairs.
Tenzin's kids got a lot of action and danger. o.o Well, they are still some of the most experienced airbenders around, and probably easier for younger viewers to identify with.
Bolin got really, really strong all of a sudden, even though I know several years have passed I kind of wish we could have seen part of his training. He's got to have trained really hard to fit in with Kuvira's lot. He lava bends so easily!
Bolin and Mako had some great moments together. The sibling relationships are always great. Mako didn't get a lot of spotlight, but as he said, it's good to see him just being himself, away from the ladies.
The fight scenes between metal benders are incredible, they have SO many objects they can use in any shape and such a variety of styles, how can anyone even choreograph these fights without making their brain explode @_@ All the flight scenes with the new air benders' style, too! (I do kind of miss the old air bending stances, though. But we got plenty of that in Book 3. Tenzin in particular <3)
Avatar is the show that can make me sob for a long time even when there's nothing sad, but just because of feels and lovable characters and the sheer awesomeness of the action scenes. (Yes, it's possible to cry tears of awesomeness.)
Kataraaaaaaa. Aaaaaa. Seeing her was like being home agaaaain. ;A; For her and Toph, it's so amazing - even with all their awesome-old-lady-ness, it's still... them, you know? Same expressions, same way of talking, same bending moves for Toph...
The entire female cast has been really amazing. Possibly even more in the last two seasons. Little girls and grandmothers, matriarchs and single aunts...
Beifong sisters, kicking bad guy rear together 4lyf!
From season 3 I loved Suyin, even though she seemed a bit domineering in an ironic way, and Lin didn't introduce her very well. She's not flawless, but so balanced, with a comforting presence. And she's the ruling matriarch of the most technologically advanced city around. Just... *thumbs up* I especially like her chemistry with her sons, they make such a great team. And she doesn't seem to have pressured them into learning to fight for her, either; she's perfectly happy to let her other son do his artistic thing.
Now, I never bought for one second that Zhu Li had actually betrayed Varrick. *eyeroll* Always knew they'd do the thing. That line, though: "I'm afraid there are no more things to do." Funny how a line that makes so little sense out of context can have so much impact. xD
I was glad to see Zhu Li standing up for herself and yelling at him a bit, though. They've always had a very special relationship, obviously, but for her to explicitly request to be his equal instead of his assistant, well, that's inspiring, in a way.
Aaah so they brought Asami-dad back at last, I was wondering if it would ever happen. Yeah, the moment I saw him I was pretty sure he wouldn't get to live long. =I In a way it's even more cruel for Asami to lose him so soon, but it's one of the best things he could have done for her, and he makes a good exit I guess. I just wish there had been more time at the end for Asami to actually talk about it.
Kuvira's ending went a bit too fast for me; talking about her childhood for a few lines after the final battle seemed sudden, and then having her complete turnaround when she comes out of the spirit world... Oh well, cartoon timing.
Interesting how Zaheer helped Korra. I already liked his wise(-though-a-bit-crazy), peaceful, spiritual side in Book 3. He agreed to help her a bit too fast for my taste, though, I wish there had been more time to explain his motives.
I like Prince Wu. Even though he's presented as comic relief, he seems so good-natured. He didn't get to be serious that many times, but you can tell there's more to him. I'm glad he had time to evolve around the end. Even though he probably had a rather... special upbringing, he seems so eager to please, and oh, I just like characters who try hard. x3 (No idea how he did that badgermole thing, though.)
Korrasami: I wouldn't call it a confirmed romantic ship but who cares, whatever they have, I love it. (Especially as it didn't take up too much plot space. x3)
That's all for now, I've probably forgotten stuff but at least I ranted it all while it was still fresh in my head. ^^
