There's also that Smash Bros voting thing for a new character. That could either go well or horrible XD Like the example they used, Cat Mario. I can see Cat Mario being his own character, but at the same time we don't need 3 Marios' XD Personally, my one character I still really want to see is Krystal from Star Fox. Classic or new outfit, don't care, I just want her to use her staff and not be a Fox clone. Strife is asking people to vote for Lilac from Freedom Planet to appear as a fighter XD Though that would be cool, I find it hard for them to bring in a indie game compared to one of their titles. But that would be cool XD But for the sake of any human decency and intellect, never ever request licensed characters... I'm looking at you, Goku. |

About the Cat Mario being playable, yeah that will ruffle quite a few feathers as not only will it be another Mario character (which we probably don't need at this point), another clone (again, ruffling feathers), but there's also the upcoming Cat Costume DLC for the Miis.
There's also the issue with trademarks/copyright issues, so the majority of the characters won't be able to head to the roster unless Nintendo gets permission from the various owners first. It might happen, but it's going to be a lengthy process, although I'm not familiar with how it actually works.
Another character that most will probably want are the Ice Climbers. If putting both cannot be done due to the limitations of the 3DS, then why not have one with the other appearing as an alt colour, much like Robin, Olimar/Alph, the Wii Fit Trainers, and Bowser Jr/the Koopalings?

If you wanna go for Indie games, wouldn't CommanderVideo (BIT.TRIP), Shantae, Shovel Knight or Beck (Mighty No. 9) have better chances? (Especially since they were much more advertised than Freedom Planet, besides the very obvious elephant in the room over originality.) If it's 3rd party, the company still has to seek permission to use the character. For example, Banjo-Kazooie (despite it being owned by Nintendo @ one point) is under Microsoft's ownership. And I do see your point about the Ice Climbers, that was probably a bad example.

Come to think of it, which characters do you think I should vote in Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot? Since we're limited to one vote per person, here's a few I've in mind: - Krystal (Star Fox Adventures) - Need more Star Fox characters, also her moveset may use melee staff instead of the usual shooting from the distance flair. Alternate costumes include classic Adventures and skintight suit from Assault possibly including Kursed costume from Command.
- King K. Rool (Donkey Kong Country) - Need more villains, his reintroduction is long overdue. Alternate costumes include classic, Kaptain K. Rool, Baron K. Roolenstein and his most recent appearance from Mario Super Sluggers. (Do anyone ever remember that game?)
- Anthony Higgs (Metroid: Other M) - Remember me?
- Captain Syrup (Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3) - Again, need more villains, Wario Land games need representations too. (You can't deny that over WarioWare forever!)
- Black Shadow (F-Zero X) - Captain Falcon's main archnemesis, since Samurai Goroh's out of question. (Twice, thrice if you count Melee's intro.)
- Viridi (Kid Icarus: Uprising) - Since Magnus and Phosphora were out of question, why not Viridi? Not forgetting everyone was waiting to beat her up at least once. (Her godlike negative karma was long overdue.)
Any other characters you've in mind? EDIT: I've decided to vote Captain Syrup in. Feel free to pick up my other suggestions too, I really don't mind that. |

I want to see 'em strike up a deal with Square Enix and put some Final Fantasy characters in there. I'd like to see Cloud and the rest of VII's cast, but I doubt Square would put them on a non-Sony platform. Now the games from I through VI, those would be fair game. I'd also really like to see someone from Kingdom Hearts, but that'd have to get past the lawyers of TWO different companies.
Basically, the only characters I'd want from FF would mostly be IV and VI, since they were on the SNES and have a stronger link to Nintendo than the entries from VII onward. Plus, the ensemble of both of those games are great, and I'd REALLY like to see Kain Highwind or Kefka appear.
