Oh, interesting. That makes sense. Steel. Haha, that would never work. xD Well, the page also says that in 1943 they used zinc-coated steel. Not sure why they stopped. Ooo, I was partly right? Cool. xD um, maybe it got too expensive? Isn't zinc cheaper and lighter than steel?

Isn't zinc cheaper and lighter than steel? *looks further* The 1943 zinc-coated steel cent was made in response to wartime copper demands in World War II. It suffered from a number of problems: they looked too much like dimes, magnet-based mechanisms to detect fake coins would pick up the steel pennies, and due to the sides of the coin not being treated correctly the coins would quickly rust. After that they started using brass. Still no idea about zinc vs. steel though.
