Just got done reading all of Revelations and the Norse legend on how the world will end for class. Gonna be an interesting debate. I predict much sitting around and staring blankly at the teacher while I and the other Christian in the class go head to head. (maybe everyone else is afraid to offend us - I don't get it)
Anyways, I also read this article over Y2k and just how nutzoid people went. So that got me to thinking about why we're so obsessed over how the world will end, and for that matter, HOW it will end.
My own personal belief is Biblical, however, that's about all I have. Revelations is so full of symbols that it's nigh impossible to be able to tell exactly what's going to happen. All I know is that Christ will return and then the world will be remade and God will be among us.
So what's your theory?
And it just started pouring. Dangit... maybe it'll blow over before I have to walk to class.

Despite the popular opinion, I think we won't blow ourselves to hades with the fearsome nukes. Even the most violent nations have too much restraint to allow that.
(Side note: I have a funny flash movie about the end of the world, but due to coarse language, I will only pm it to those mature enough to handle it.)
The whole Greenhouse Effect thing is either a myth, or simply unproven with conclusive evidence. (Yes the world is heating up every year, but for all we know, it could be natural.)
Revelations is something I have gone through again, and again, and still can't understand it. Lucky for me, even big-time scholars cannot say for sure what it means either. Personally, if any of the precursors to this cataclysm happen, I won't get bent out of shape about it. I'd just say "Well... It had to happen sometime."
And after reading up on Norse mythology, and discovering its amazingly powerful influence on the rest of the world, I believe there are some interesting links with that as well.
Well, if the world ends, I'm still holding on to my faith, as that would soon be the only thing I'd have left.

Well, I won't disclude the possibility of the earth becoming unhabitable due to nuclear holocaust. Nor the fact that a giant comet may take a large chunk out of us, or a huge volcano may erupt, or a huge tsunami destroy us. But I believe, discluding freak natural events like the ones above, the earth will be destroyed in a few million years, when the sun expands into us. Hopefully, by then, we'll be looking down on this destruction from somewhere else

I will take it over and kill all of humanity just cause I want to. ;D ;D
Just kidding. XD
What I really think is that our drinking water is going to be polluted with lead or some sort of poison, and we'll all die and the plants and the animals-everything's gonna die.
OR if we keep the world going long enough, the sun will exploed and it'll all end like that.

I people will eventually depleat all of the resources and then we will all suffer Yeah other animals don't delpleat things nearly as fast... just blame everyone Resource depleation + growing population (it's slowing in rate SLIGHTLY... but still a large number of people!!) = we're all gonna die

I think people always have some fascination with how the world will end because it sort of helps you cope with the idea of forever. When you think about it forever is simply impossible to imagine (I have sat down on a few occasions and pondered it, and it started to get simply cofusing). But with the end of the world you have thia idea of finality. Of the end. It most likely links with the idea of everything have a start and an end. That perhaps someone's end will not simply be ignored and there will also be an end for everyone else.
As for my beliefs, I don't know if I think that God would bring about the end (after all, if I spent a long time making an art farm I don't think I'd go pouring a can of raid into it after a while). I do think, however, that we will run out of resources and some countries will slowly dissapear due to economical instablity, or something like that.

Personally... I have no idea. Right now I'm hooked on the book series Left Behind, which is a kind of spin-off of Revelations (that is: one of the Bible scholars who studied that book teamed up with a writer and they wrote a series of twelve books from the Rapture until Christ comes again for the thousand-year rule. The way they present it is actually quite believable.) So I suppose it's affected how I think on how the world's gonna end. I dunno, I might pour that can of raid inside if the ants were trampling all over the farm and destroying it....

Hr, not exactly sure. I'm thinking Revelations could happen, but then again, a comet is supposed to come close to hitting us in 2022, so ya never know.
I think, if we don't stop screwing up our world, we'll be going a lot sooner than we think.
If I have my way, we'll all become immortal and go and live in a garden of Eden sort and become what we've always wanted to be ^_^

(Side note: I have a funny flash movie about the end of the world, but due to coarse language, I will only pm it to those mature enough to handle it.) Does it happen to be End of Ze World? Anyway, I think it should be obvious. Earth shall be demolished to make a hyperspace conduit for space travel. Duh... Then it will be recreated by superintelligant mice. Duh. (Heh... Good ol' Douglas Adams) Seriously? If we don't kill ourselves with some new technology or through some freak natrual event, in a few million years, earth will be destroyed by the suns expansion. Hopefully we will be long gone by then though...

I think everyone will have a computer chip installed into their hand for record and financial keeping. (they're already talking about doing that in the science world...) And then some kid with a good computer connection and too much time on his hands will hack into our computer chips and kill us. Oh, and he'll die too once he's realized that he killed everyone, including his mom, the only one in his house who knew how to cook Hot Pockets.
(Revelations mentions a 'Mark of the Beast,' a number or symbol or tattoo-like-thing that everyone will have on their hand who pledges their allegance to the AntiChrist, and it'll be impossible to purchase anything without that mark. I bet it's those computer chips! No credit cards in my palm, no sirree! Now where did I put my tinfoil hat? I don't want the FBI to read my mind...)

The sun will supernova and the Earth will finally die... but long before that, the human race will have destroyed itself with pollution and wars... Yes...and not to mention the fact that people don't know how to control their population and we're only pushing ourselves to our own doom because of it. It's like the stupid catarpillars that took over a bush of mine. They kept coming and coming and coming and now that they totally destroyed the bush they're all dying because they have nothing to eat. People are the same way, don't know how to knock it off. We're running out of room and safe drinking water and in many places running out of food to eat not to mention school crowding. We're killing plants that are needed because of it as well as animals and like they say, extinct is forever. Humans are just going to be their own end. It's not going to be war or stuff, it's going to be overpopulation and losing natural resources. Man won't be happy until every inch of the world is under cement. We lost citrus groves down here and gorgeous cow pastures for a stupid drug store when there was five not more than a few miles away from here. Tell me, is it really necessary to have a drug store and gas station on every bloody corner? To say (can't say quote because I don't know it full word for word but this is close enough) an old Cherokee phrase If you take away all the plants the earth will die, you take away all the four legged creatures the earth will die, you take away all the fish and insects the earth will die, but you take away humans and the earth will flourish.

The earth will die. Everything does. Humanity may kill the planet and one another with science and weapons, we may die from pollution, another giant asteroid wiping out 90% of life, or the sun blowing up. It'll happen, it's just a matter of when. I think the asteroid will hit and kill almost everything (We're overdue for one actually. Happened to the dinos predecessors and the dinos.) Then the sun will blow up in a few billion years and turn the world into a dead hunk of rock.

One Thursday during lunchtime. [glow=red,2,300]*cracks up, 'cause she got the Douglas Adams reference.* We've got three options, in my opinion. Fire, Ice, and Sheer Human Stupidity. Kidding. (Although it is a possibility.) Personally, I don't like to think that humans will bring on the end of the world. I like to think that it'll be a natural disaster. I do, however, think that we may either speed up the process or screw up the world so badly that we'll be glad to see it end. (I'll type more later.)[/glow]
