((WARNING WARNING THIS POST CONTAINS THE USE OF WORDS, OUT OF CONTEXT BE THEY MAY, OF A LESS THAN SAVORY NATURE. IF YOU GET SQUEAMISH READING "VULGAR" WORDS, I SUGGEST SKIPPING THIS POST BECAUSE IT'S POINTLESS ANYWAY)) Isn't it ironic how you can say (no one yell at me for this, please, I'm pointing out weird quirks of the filter): Ass, Crap, Screwed, Sucks, Penis, and probably many more things yet you can't use: D*mn or P!ssed? I am trying hard not to be a word nazi here and having a list like Neopets has. So far, it hasn't been a big problem...

I am making an effort to clean up my mouth. But when you work in the mechanical field, meh... it's a given.
I combat foul language the best way I know how: try to get others to stop, so that maybe I could stop as well. Dumb strategy, but it seems to work. Most of the time, anyway.

I am trying hard not to be a word nazi here and having a list like Neopets has. So far, it hasn't been a big problem... It was just funny-ironic. Not a complaint...just funny ironic...hehe.. But I actually thought, for the most part, that was a Proboards placed filter...

What's it matter? I don't curse often*, although my language has relaxed in the past year, but there's really no reason not to. I'm not really an emotional person, though.
But they're just words. Curse words and other slang aren't appropriate in some situations, but there's no compelling reason to abstain from them in others.
*This assumes "sucks," "darn," "shoot," "p!ssed," and "heck" are not curse words. I don't think they are. Some folk might.

I don't really mind too much when people use curse words around me. Only when they use Jesus Christ's name do I bristle. It just rubs me the wrong way, though regretably I've used that once or twice. (very, very very regrettably. I wish I could've taken it back.) But I think people should be careful who they say the words to or around. My grandparents would smack me something awful if I used vulgarities around them, not to mention that they'd be so disappointed in me, which I definetely don't want. And if you use curse-words around teachers, they tend to not treat you as nicely. It's true. My sis and I have therefore come up with curse-word alternatives, that actually make us look kinda' silly in public. (and I don't really consider 'crap' a curseword. Dunno why.) "Craptastic" "Crudbuckets" "Crudbuckets of wheat and hay" (for when we're really mad. No, I'm totally serious.) "Fugnutters" "Holy monkey" "Nutbunnies" (from Freakazoid. ) "Poopie" "Shiznit" "Spoot" .... ...... ....... Yeah, it really weirds out my friends.

I've said this before, I can't stand cursing. It just makes me feel terrible even if it's not directed at me. And now I'm going to tell you why....
I actually have a phobia. It's called Onomatophobia, which is the fear of hearing a certain word. When I hear the f-word I get shaky and feel sad. I hear voices in my head and worst of all, the word repeats itself in my mind on an endless loop. I literally break down just by hearing that one (as some people might think) little 'harmless' word.
So anyone who says that words do not hurt, doesn't have all of their facts collected.

You can use both the 's' and 'f' word without meaning it to offend anyone. However... It is difficult to use words such as 'idiot', 'fool' or 'stupid', without using it to insult or offend someone. Should we censor out those words? What about words such as 'gay', or 'dummy'. Should we censor those words out too, just because of their alternate meanings?

You know what's weird? I've developed this habit of avoiding to say any words that begin with the letter f. Often when I'm slightly ticked off. When I start to say a word that begins with F, and it could in context be the F word even it it's not what I'm thinking, I'll begin with the f letter sound, and suddenly change my word midway. What I mean by in context is that it'd be correct grammar. As in, if I'm about to say a word that's an adjective or adverb that begins with f, it sounds like I might be starting off the word "f***ing". It's getting really annoying.

Even when people say "lousy" or "flipping" it still bothers me because it almost sounds (and looks) like the f-word. I catch myself thinking about it all the time, worrying that I'm going to slip up my tongue and end up saying that word. Whenever I say a word that beings with "f" I usually have to say it slowly and accurately. "That's the best fu-Dge I've had in a while" "Well, that's my ffff-aaavourite character" I think one day I'm going to explode XD

Actually, the words 'idiot', 'moron', and 'fool' all used to be used as scientific terms to describe different levels of mental retardation. For example, the scientific term for a person with Downs Syndrome about sixty years ago was 'Mongolian Idiot'. For some reason, those words became used so often that people have forgotten where they come from and why they were originally used. So I find it odd that people find 'dummy' more offensive than 'idiot' or 'moron'. Just about any insulting word nowadays has a dirty vulgar meaning behind it, so grading these words with different severities seems a little tedious to me. Like, poop, crap, and sh*t all have the same basic meaning: defication. Yet poop is a lot sillier and less serious than crap and crap is more exceptable to say than sh*t. On the subject of cursing, I won't lie, I curse *a lot*. At least, around my friends. We curse all the time. To us, it's funny. We get a kick out of it. Not that we can't find other ways of entertaining ourselves, but if someone says something stupid and there's a long dramatic space it's always funny to say, "Wow, you're a ." Not in an intentionally cruel way, but jokingly. But I can control myself when I need to. Like if I'm at the dinner table with my family I'm not going to say, "Can you please pass the f*cking butter?" Because that's simply tactless. Cursing in general doesn't bother me as long as people can say thing that aren't just four letters long. o0
