Okay, one of my friends sent in a story, and then got a mail back from Felicia stating that there are no fathers on Neopets, and when she asked what that was about, Felicia answered with this:
Apparently the NT is going to try and stop using fathers in all stories, and that you are only suposed to use owner, or mabey brother. (don't know about mother)
I wasn't so sure about the truth in this statement, but in one of my stories, they replaced the word father with owner.
Personally I think that this isn't a very good rule. Using the word father is not in any way profanic, and it is not as if children don't know what a father is. We all have one. In alot of stories, substituting owner for father doesn't work, and all it does is make things confusing...

Woah. That's just messed up!
I suppose that having a father would imply ahem... doing it but at the same time it makes no sense!

Yeah, I know that, but still even in third grade when I first started writing, I always made up stories uusing fathers and mothers. *most of them involved an animal having to find it's family, but the word father never bothered me or anyone else that I can think of*

I suppose it has implications of reproduction, ect ect ect.
Still, I find that a bit odd... father can be thought of as a term of endearment, dosen't have to do with any boligical standard... Ahh well

Don't mind me. I just can't think up a face to use to react to this. Anyways, I'm writing a story about Princess Vyssa. We all know Coltzan III is her father, right? And it wouldn't be very accurate to just have Coltzan called "owner" throughout the whole series. Oh, great.

I'm sure that in Princess Vyssa'a case they would allow it since she is THEIR character. I have always stayed away from both "parent" and "owner" and use "friend" and "buddy".

Strange. In my "Golden Rose" series, the main character kept referring to her owner as "Daddy," and it wasn't a problem. It just seems like the way a pet might see his or her owner. When families adopt dogs, it's said that the dog sees the family as his or her pack, which implies that they might see someone as the father, the mother, etc. It's...well, as Linnen said, a term of endearment....
Oh, well.

Wow, Felicia is getting REALLY serious about their rules. ._. So Neopets can allow moms, but not dads. That makes total sense to me, yup.

The Dippaw Family's out the window. There goes my latest story. It might not be too big of a problem Al. Felicia mentioned that she might not take away characters who have already been made... I hope that this rule doesn't hold over too much. I can't really abide by it until after I finish the TZA stories...

For some reason, I'm reminded of something we're learning in History class, the whole father/owner thing...
But don't mind me, I'm just rambling (as always).
Purely out of curiousity, was the 'father' that was referred to a Neopet or actual owner? That might make a difference in whether or not the story is considered acceptable.

Here's the story behind it, from what I have heard.
Mr. Pickles told Felicia that there should be no parents in Neopian Times stories because if a character has a mother and a father, some writers will want to make a character with two fathers or two mothers. Since they can't simply outlaw that because it would be seen as prejudice, that outlaw all parents all together. Somehow, though, Felicia seems to have gotten the message wrong and only recieved the father part.
Anyway, that's what I've heard.

Thanks. Though I still do not like the fact that they are taking parents away from neopia. They play a key role in many stories...

Imagine what would happen if the pets in the adoption stories could no longer call their new owners 'mommy'...
