The other day I had this idea for a writing game that would work like the Storytelling contest, but with the dice-rolling element of D&D. So at the end of each part, the current writer can have a character take an action, or leave off with an event with an uncertain outcome, and they must roll a die from 1-20.
Then next person then has to write how things turn out depending on the result. Rolling a 20 means ultimate success, while rolling a 1 is a critical failure. So for example, if someone rolls a 15, things would probably go pretty well, though perhaps not flawlessly. But ultimately, it's up to you how you interpret the result and how you choose to write the aftermath! Feel free to be as creative as you want! Continue the story, roll for the next action, and wait and see where the story goes!
Sound like fun? =D
Just a few notes/rules before we start:
* To roll your dice type [ dice=1-20* ] without spaces.
* Please keep things within forum rules and family friendly.
* If you want to write the next part of the story, but worry someone might beat you to it while you work on it, you may reserve a post. Just make sure to edit your post in when you're done. If you don't do it within 24 hours, your spot will be freed for anyone else to take.
* Try to keep your entries relatively short, a couple of paragraphs is good enough! It's okay if you get carried away and write more, but ideally, I would like this to be as approachable as possible, and would like to avoid people having to read through a bunch of textwalls just to catch up with the story and make sense of what's going on! XD;
* if you feel like a story is running its course, feel free to write an ending for it (or nudge it towards one.) If you write an ending, you may also write the next beginning, or you can ask the next poster to do it. Up to you! I'll have a link to the start of the current story here in the first post.
* This isn't a writing contest, it's meant to be just for fun, so don't stress too much! Everyone is welcome to give it a go, even if you don't consider yourself much of a writer!
* If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Okay, with that out of the way, let's start!
