Fun fact! We’ve got a NTWF TV Tropes page!
Other fun fact! Did you know that it’s been undergoing a little construction?
Well, nothing really official, but long story short, one late night I decided to get experimental and start making separate pages for the different NTWF roleplays, like what the Mafias already have. I figured that as the roleplays and tropes continue to add on, keeping them all on one page would make editing harder and harder with more to scroll through. A few others who found what I did have been receptive to the idea, but it’s not really official until the whole forum can see!
So yeah, right now I'm curious what everyone thinks, if separate roleplay pages are a good idea or not! While I have started to make some, I also haven't deleted anything from the main page so as to not make any significant changes that force this upon people. If we do want to go separate page route, then the roleplay tropes would be taken off of the main page as soon as they’re transferred to their own space, and any new roleplay tropes from then on out would go on the appropriate page.
As for what’s been done already, I’ve made a page for Wrighton and Hero City, with all their original tropes cp'd over. Wrighton is just about organized with a bunch of character folders, but I think HC still has some work to do as I’ve got folders made, but not everything sorted into them (plus there may very likely be some character folders missing).
Those are the two roleplays I actually trust myself to parse through and organize, as they’re the ones I’m most familiar with, but anyone has the power to make new pages so long as they have an account! Medieval already has tropes on the main page that can be transferred to a new page, and really any roleplay is fair game, like Liar’s Game, The Town, and Naelus!
How do make page, though? =o
It’s actually not too difficult! Basically, you just need to make a link for it, and suddenly that page comes to life!
1. Go to the main NTWF page and, once you’re logged in, click Edit Page in the top left corner.
2. Once there, pick any spot to make your link. You’ll notice that there are Wrighton and HC links just kinda floating there, so another link can go right below them (these can all be integrated into actual sentences with context later).
3. The link format looks like this: [[Roleplay/RoleplayTitle Roleplay Title]]
The first time you type the roleplay’s name, there are no spaces and every single word gets capitalized. Second time you type it, that'll be how you want it displayed normally.
Be sure to make the title distinctive to the forum! If possible, use the full name, like Hero City: Capital of Justice, or start with NTWF.
For example, for The Town, it’d look like this: [[Roleplay/TheTown:LifeIsGood The Town: Life is Good]]
4. Save your work and go back to public view. Wherever you made your edits, you’ll now see a red link! Click on this, and it will take you to a blank page ready to be edited.
5. Click Edit Page in the top left again, and then add as many tropes and folders as you please! So far, each page has been given at least a characters folder, and with the amount of participants in each game, this may be a wise idea so as to best organize the tropes and make sure each character gets some!
And while we’re here, why not some instructions on folders, tropes, and spoiler boxes as well!
Folders:
1) Start with [[folder: Folder Name]]
2) Close it off with [[/folder]]
3) Put whatever you want in between!
Example: [[folder: The Queen]] tropes tropes tropes [[/folder]]
Tropes:
1) Use the format * OfficialTropeName: Description
- Put in words: asterisk, space, trope name as it says exactly on its original page (no spaces, every word capitalized), colon, and then any context you want to give for how that tropes relates to a roleplay or character (descriptions are not required though).
Example: * BrainBleach: Many users drink this.
Spoilers:
These can be put around entire trope descriptions, part of the description, or even the trope name itself.
Whichever block of text you decide to spoiler, surround it with [[ ]] brackets and put spoiler: right after the first set of brackets. I don't think it matters if you put a space after the colon or not.
Examples:
Trope: [[spoiler: I want all this hidden so as to not give away reveals.]]
[[spoiler: Trope]]: The trope name may be a giveaway, but the description doesn't have to be.
Trope: Sometimes there's just one [[spoiler: part]] I don't want people to see on accident.
Tdlr; I started making separate NTWF roleplay pages on TV Tropes, similar to the Mafia pages, so let me know what you think of that idea! Any roleplays are fair game to make pages for, so here's some handy tips on how to make them, plus a few other formatting tricks!
