“Naelus is an island of beasts- not just beasts of the earth, but also beasts of magic. I would know- my best friend is a moon rabbit.
“Mochi told me once that it’s the same for the magical creatures as it is for ordinary animals like thylacines- if they lose their niche, they die out. The difference is that for things like Mochi, their ‘niche’ isn’t being a predator for certain prey, or pollinating certain flowers by drinking the nectar. Their place is ‘fulfilling a bigger role in the fabric of the cosmos.’ I didn’t know what that meant at first, but Mochi explained that its like moon rabbits used to exist to be the shadow on the moon. But then something called hoomins flew to the moon and found out the shadow was just big holes made by flying sky rocks. The moon rabbits weren’t needed anymore. And so they fell from the moon to earth.
“I dunno what happened after that, Mochi always says its not important. But I think they’re avoiding the question. I think it was somethin’ bad. The spirit brought the moon rabbits to the island so they could be safe. And the phoenixes, and the quilins, and the bunyips. Magic’s going away almost everywhere outside of Naelus these days- it isn’t needed anymore.”-Beech of the Coastal Thylacine Family

“Hi everybody! Beech here! You might be wondering how I’m talking to you all directly- Shinko said something about fourth walls and keeping the hype posts consistently themed, whatever that means. But that’s just boring stuff- it’s what I’ve got to tell you that should really be exciting!
“See, I have great news- a date. Specifically, the date for the sign-ups for the Naelus: Isle of Mist game!
“Sign-ups will open on Sunday, May 27th, and run through Sunday, June 3rd! The game requires at least sixteen people to play, but can have as many as twenty.
“And just to remind everybody, the date for Game start is Friday, June 8th!
“I’m so excited, you guys! I can’t wait to meet all my new friends on the island! See you there!”(And courtesy of Twillie , to whom I extend a thousand thanks *Drumroll*) A map of the island! Let me know if you guys have any questions, concerns, or thoughts!

=3 The map turned out great, many commendations to Twillie for turning my ah... less than admirable sketch into such a pretty landscape.
Some fun facts! The Hollow and High Hills are both cut off at the top and completely hollow inside, but the island is not volcanic. Nobody is sure why they're like that.
The Crystal Crags is a section of the cliff face that has a bunch of shiny quartz crystals in every conceivable color embedded in the wall. It's very pretty during the day, but on full moon nights it looks downright magical.
The Waterfall Basins area was inspired by the Dunns River Falls in Jamaica, which I visited once on vacation. I encourage you to look at photos, because its really cool looking.

I'm trying to figure out where my character should live (lolz prehistoric geography) - I was thinking the crystal canyons makes sense because Triassic period was pretty desert-y, and I am jazzed about hearing it's named that for an appropriately shiny reason =D
(And dang, the Dunns River Falls are super-pretty! And look at all those places to stand and have dramatic showdowns!)

That map is gorgeous! Twillie, you did a fantastic job on it! And Shinko, you did a great job on the design of the island. It feels like a real place but also full of magic and mystery, perfectly suited for housing all sorts of magical, prehistoric and real critters all in one mix. In particular I love the names. They are really poetic.
I am very hyped for this. I have my character all ready (he just needs colour) and a potential NPC. Can't wait!

Ah, I'm so excited. The map looks so pretty (way to go, Twillie and Shinko ^^) and the layout looks really cool. So much potential. @u@ My characters are pretty much ready to go. I have my character as well as an NPC. I need to figure out a couple things still, but I think I'll be ready by signups. *knocks on wood*

((Was gonna post this on mini-comments but may as well keep hype-type things on the hype thread))
I am definitely keen to play as some form of interesting but extinct Aussie animal (nods to Shinko for the Tasmanian tiger/s). I’ve been toying with the idea of using a species of bird called bullockornis planei. Or at least that’s it’s scientific name, it’s common name is the “demon duck of doom”. Unfortunately it’s larger than a horse so it would be a no go unless I wanted to NPC... XD

You could do what I did! I have a biganimal npc and a smaller pc. =)

Reiqua if you really want to use it as a PC, you could always pygmy it! It was pointed out to me by somebody else who wanted to use a bigger-than-the-size-limit species that on an island setting larger creatures will tend to shrink in size to better adapt to the limitations of the environment, so I'll accept larger animals if they've been shrunk down to within the size rules!

Since a lot of people have been planning a species for their character already, I figure I can go ahead and talk about this now- there's inevitably going to be the question of "how big is X relative to Y." Especially with the supernatural characters whom we can't even get a reliable size range for on Wikipedia. That said, Imma do a thing. Drag to another tab for fullsize. Yup- size charts! I'll generally keep the rows only as long as the above to avoid hyper-stretching people's pages, so you can just cut and paste characters you wanna slap next to one another in MS paint or whatever you have handy. That said, I'm not bequeathed with unlimited time, so I'm going to have to ask that ya'll provide a silhouette yourselves; if you don't art, see if you can get a friend to help you! It doesn't have to be super detailed, a general body shape is fine and it's better for the sake of size reference if they're standing in a neural pose. \ o / So hit me up!

I'm a little confused; are you offering to make the size charts yourself, given we provide our species silhouettes? Would it be easier to perhaps post a blank chart here, and then we can be responsible for our individual charts and the workload can be easier to manage? Or at least, for those who would be comfortable in knowing how to make one themselves. (although there are different (free!) programs and sites out there that can easily make your image background transparent if need be, and also has layers and sizing, if anyone is curious!)

Well if everyone did their own, that would just be a bunch of individual ones- my idea was to line up three to four characters on one each to
A) Make it easier to keep track of all the images and
B) Offer some actual sense of scale.

Oh, so put different people's characters onto the same charts then? I didn't pick up on that, I get you now x3
But yeah, I guess what I had in my mind before in terms of scale was putting all their species together if they had multiple, or next to irl examples, which is why I got confused x3
