They say that in nature, only the fittest can truly thrive. Survival is an arms race that has been going on for time immemorial, and will continue to go on until the planet’s end. Be it by strength or cunning, keen senses or quick reproduction, those who adapt survive, and those who do not are lost and forgotten.
Or so those blessed survivors have always believed.
Rejected by ecosystems in which they could not maintain their niche, the species that time and nature have forgotten have fled our world and taken refuge in another. Naelus; an island shrouded in mist that misdirects any who would intrude upon its shores. Protected by a guardian spirit of immense power and benevolence, Naelus is home to those species regarded as extinct in nature, or who have faded from memory into mythology with the advance of human civilization. They are protected within the mists that surround their home, and have flourished there for generations. There is but one law which governs their sanctuary- take no life that is not needed for food or defense against predators.
However, something sinister has somehow invaded the mist wall around Naelus. A seeping, corrupting madness that seizes innocent residents of the island and drives them to slaughter, not for food but at random. And all signs point to once trusted islanders being the sowers of the corruption, traitors that have allied with the darkness of their own will.
They have to be stopped, or all of Naelus may fall to the corruption. But with no idea who can or can’t be trusted, will the residents of Naelus stop the sowers of corruption, or simply do their bloody work for them?
Hey guys! So back in January I teased the idea of a beast-only forum game, and people seemed receptive to it. Here now is the concept for that game, and with it a few questions for ya’ll.
Naelus: Isle of Mist will run on an engine very similar to the mafia games, but with a few tweaks. (For those who didn't play, the Mafia games were a competition between the Mafia- trying to massacre the town- and the town trying to execute the hidden mafia players.) There will be roughly 16-20 players, with 4-5 hidden among them who will take on the role of the “Sowers”- those who spread the corruption. Unlike the Mafia, they do not choose targets to murder, but instead they chose targets to corrupt, and after a turn of layover the chosen victim will become “corrupted” and murder another random (non-Sower) player. The corrupted players don’t “join” the Sowers per se, and can be cured of corruption by one of four hidden “Guardian” players. On every other turn between the corruption murders, the innocent residents of Naelus will place secret votes on a mob execution in the hopes of eliminating the Sowers. The game ends either when the corrupted players (including the Sowers) outnumber the innocent ones, or once all four of the Sowers have been killed.
The characters for the game will all be some shade of animals- it can be a real animal (currently living or extinct), a fantasy animal from folklore, or a completely original fantasy critter you make up. We’ll obviously put some limitations on this for the sake of fairness and streamlining, but again that, and the game rules, can be elaborated on later.
So my questions for everyone are thus- Would you be interested in this game? And, if so, when would you like it to happen; this summer (probably starting in June), or next summer?
Feel free to ask my any questions!
