My Facebook newsfeed is full of people freaking out because of the OMG SNOOOOOOOOOW IN THE SOOOOUTH. I'm just barely too far south for it, alas, closest we got here was a few people putting blankets over their well pumps to keep them from freezing. (I'm not certain what that helps, exactly, since well pumps don't put off body heat to be trapped by the blanket, but w/e!) =D Any of my fellow northern hemisphere folks got fun stories or pics from this sudden blast of cold? Twitter keeps trending people in London also flipping out over the snow and I've seen Canadians posting pics of snow up to their necks, so it seems it ain't just the US that's "Aaaaaaaah"-ing.

There is no snow here, only because I live by the coast and it is annoyingly clear, but if there was to be any precipitation, I have no doubt it would be snow because it is in the minuses (Celcius) right now. There are places in in the UK which have fallen below -10 C, which is almost unheard of. Nowhere in Scotland is above freezing, I'm sure. But down south and in the hills, yes, it is pretty chaotic. There is very heavy snowfall, according to the BBC and the pictures they are publishing, and knowing the UK, everyone is going crazy. xD; Wales is especially bad right now.

Yeah, I've heard that a lot of places have been getting hit hard by snow. I heard Texas got hit with snow, I saw on Facebook that Florida was going to be hit with some cold. It's pretty weird and interesting. At least I think it is. Ah, winter storm Benji (which looks to be the cause of all of that). |D We had warm temperatures up here earlier, now you get the cold. That being said, I got snow. Then again, I live in Pennsylvania, so snow isn't exactly rare in the winter. (I can't remember the last time we got snow in December up here, though... I just mostly remember it coming in January... That might just be me having a bad memory, though.) I remember looking at the Doppler radar when I was watching the news and I saw that it was coming from the southeast and I was sort of fuming because this meant more snow towards there and I'm farther west than my home right now (which is east of my college). The only reason why I was mad was because the weather here usually comes from the west. XD But I did get some pictures. I remember going to get food yesterday, I looked out the window in the lobby of the floor I was on and I was like, "Yep, I'm going to get pictures." I literally went back to my room to get my phone for pictures. They turned out really pretty. Sorry about going on about this. I take interest in this (there's a reason why I'm going into meteorology :3).

Here in Ontario (where I live), we've had our first blast of winter back in November with cold temperatures and a little snow, but nothing major (yet). That's just typical, especially with the first snowfall as people are not used to winter driving and are caught off guard.
However, there are other places in Ontario (and Canada) that have snow multiple time, so I could probably see why there are some exaggeration of the the snow accumulated.

I'm in Wisconsin, and it's been a surprisingly mild winter for us so far. We've only had one snowfall, which didn't stick, and the week before last was a positively tropical 40-50F. My boyfriend was wearing t-shirts outdoors. We're hoping it'll snow for Christmas.

So far no snow in my area, nor have I heard of any coming soon. It has been really frigid, though, but that's pretty normal for Missouri, lol x3 December seems to be the time for us when the weather fluctuates between freezing and mild, and it's not until January/February when we get serious snow. But who knows, if the weather's been crazy elsewhere, maybe we'll get a bout of that before the year ends.

Clearly Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and etc are stealing a lot of ya'lls snow, ha. Which, given it's the south, has people in panic attacks because AAAAAAAH HOW DOES COPE WITH REAL WINTER. It dropped to uh... *Converts* -1.6 C (29 F) last night when people here were flailing and throwing blankets on their pumps. It pretty much never gets that cold in Florida until at least January. Upper 30s, oh sure, but below freezing is pretty rare, this early in winter almost unheard of. XD
Although yeah, weather's been really weird since the start of fall. It's been unseasonably warm for ages, and now all of a sudden we're getting blasted by snow in the southeast. Weather, you're drunk, go home.

Up here, this has been more or less a typical winter day in Maine. We get blasted with snowstorms every year, so this isn't anything we're not used to. We got five inches of snow, which is no where near the worst we've ever seen. Although yeah, weather's been really weird since the start of fall. It's been unseasonably warm for ages, and now all of a sudden we're getting blasted by snow in the southeast. Weather, you're drunk, go home. Maine has also had some rather late and warm winters within the past few years. Used to be that it wasn't at all unusual to get snow in November or even October, but this is actually the first snow we've had this season. Wow, it's almost as if the climate is changing or something.

Up where I live, we had a cold snap in early/mid-November for a week or so with snow and such, and then nothing since then. It's juuust starting to get a bit chilly in the mornings, lately, but not enough to have to scrape frost off the windshield or anything, oddly.

We're supposed to be getting an arctic cold front and a blast of snow this upcoming week. Not looking forward to it, but it's nothing unusual for Ontatio, Canada. XD

Living in Alaska, snow is pretty much inevitable. It's actually weirder to not have a cold and snowy winter. xD
And this season has been... half-weird? We've been getting a lot of snowfall, which isn't too unusual; some winters are dry, some winters we get piled, and this looks to be a piling year. But the temperature has been weird. It took a while to get cold enough for the snow to come and stay. But when it did, it did stay for a long time, and the area started getting cold snaps down to about -15F/-26C. Which is to be expected in November.
But December came and now it's unseasonably warm. As in it keeps either getting up close to 0C or it breaks past it and starts melting. It rained the other day. And has been fluctuating ever since, which means all the ice. \ o / Not as bad as it could have been, but still enough to put the road crew on full time.
(Part of the reason Alaska doesn't panic as much over snow and other weather events that affect the roads is because the road crews in this state are on it. There've been problems in the past, but overall it's like a well-oiled machine. Which I feel is the difference between living in a northern state and living in a southern one, as I learned from talking to more south-bound people and thinking about it. Northern states expect snow and cold and thus there are systems in place to effectively deal with it. The South, them not getting so much snow, may not have that or know how to deal with it, hence more panic. To be fair, if I lived/grew up somewhere where I rarely or never got snow and suddenly got a bunch, I might be "what do" too.)
So yeah, the south took our snow and cold, give it back! s(o.o)z

Clearly, the weather's drunk. 3 different systems, 3 days of snow here in Ontario. Usually, we would get around 20-25 cm (approximately 1 inch I think, sorry, I'm bad at conversion) for the month of February. We're getting that amount in those 3 days.
