I’m not too far in yet, but... I knew about Garrick, a Jayeee character, and I knew about Alain, a dignified man from the pics I’ve seen of him ( Celestial). I had no idea they were father and son x’DDD I am suddenly very interested to read more about them x3 8D That will in no way result in shenanigans, nosiree. Although the real fun is in Garrick's interactions off of his Uncle Ambrose, lolz, but I'll discuss that further when it happens. Celestial Jayeee"Tips, Xave. Be shameless." Ilsa is the most shamelessly merchanty person in the story and she's not even part of the merchant faction. XD ElcieJust got as far as Leif's first post, and boy howdy it's hilarious to read him not even being aware of why they're going to Medieville. "Someone in power had just died???" Pffft. Tiger

"Hey, what if the Jay-character is our suitor? Destiney is awful, so they're perfect for one another." The headaches I have had since then trying to justify how he is Alain's son and why Garrick is the way he is have not been worth the joke.

Well it did result in me creating Joffery, so I think the joke was worth that at least, lol. Speaking of early character syndrome, I recall it taking a while for me to nail down Joff's personality, too. XD The old English thing in his first post definitely did not last. Jeniver stayed pretty much the same though. (I forgot about the "smelly peasants" thing though haha)

Oh hey the reading party's a thing that's finally happening, neat I guess right off the bat I might as well post some of the really old development content and concept art that Avery and I kicked around during the brainstorming process? More under the cut for people who are interested in that We initially came up with the pitch for two houses, Stallion and Jade, as a pretty overt parody of the houses from Game of Thrones. That initial conversation is probably lost to the depths of skype at this point, but when we talked about it we'd really had the sense from the very beginning that it was always going to be Stallion and Jade as the core House rivalry; the other houses came much further down the line. I think Carrie was the one who initially pitched the kind of overarching conflict between tradition (magic) and progress (technology); we figured it made sense to have the house of the Jade Phoenix be much more magical, and the horse made sense as a symbol of industry. It all ended up fitting together really nicely, I have to say. I based House Stallion's design off a typical chess Knight—i wanted the shapes to be really deliberately angular and squared off, and the motif of the knight also ended up implying a kind of strategic cunning in their rise to technological power. I ended up giving House Jade very circular and curved shapes for visual contrast. (The circle also elicits the idea of a coin—I wanted to put "old money" on the table with Jade from the get-go) The initial silhouettes we ended up with. The shape of Stallion's silhouette was always meant to resemble the cogs of a gear (industry!). The shapes within House Jade, under the wings, were intended to evoke fire a la the phoenix rising from the ashes, but they also evoked a nest-like shape. I made the wings asymmetrically sized because I wanted to give the suggestion of movement—it's tough to make static graphics feel super swooshy, though I like to think this turned out alright. I don't remember exactly how we settled on the color schemes; house Jade had to be green (of course, it's got Jade in the name) and I really wanted to go with gold as well to tie to their idea of old money and longstanding tradition. The maroon for Stallion was a natural contrast. I think we came up with grey as it implied silver, for wealth, but also the grey of steel and other metals. It was around this point in the dev process that I kind of fell into the idea of those border-shapes around the symbols: we knew that a lot of folks on the forum are artistically minded, and I figured that creating those templates could be a fun way to create a sense of unity among different teams (House pride!). That's a thing that we'd had on forum events in the past a little bit if you look at events like Karmageddon, but I wanted to make sure there was space for artistic customization as well as visual coherence. I think it ended up working really well in the end! As you can see from the color proofs above, I came up with House Stallion's first (the four symmetrical corners were a point of stability). It took a bit of time to come up with House Jade's, but I kind of went back to the initial motifs (circles) and came up with the wing-like border design that you see here. And that's the process for the House crests! It was a fairly fun design project from the get-go and looking back I'm honestly still pretty satisfied of the end result. The content for our mystery faction didn't really pop up until further down the line so if/when I post that it probably won't be for a couple of rounds. (Also if anyone is interested in tagging me for any reason you're welcome to do so)

My computers tend to turn into bricks with stunning regularity that costs me most of any WIP art I have saved. Also Rosalie Dylas (Maddy), I forgot how great Rosalie's inner narration was. Rosie, you are a gem.

Fun fact for newbies:
The opening paragraph of Round 1 is ripped from the forum game that shortly preceded Medieval: Mafia III. Mafia III (styled after the party game "Mafia", in forum-friendly RP format! 8D) featured two competing mafias, because you know, the sequel of the sequel needs new twists and turns and stuff. ^___^ These mafias were called Chill of the Night and Abominable Aifam (... Aifam Cove being the name of the crime-infested town, and certainly it's not just 'mafia' spelled backwards). Abominable Aifam, as it goes, would be typo'd and jokingly referred to as "abdominal". (... Also because they totally likes working their abs! 8D Yeah!)
Hence, when I was writing up the opening to Mafia a couple months later... I couldn't resist. And so King Starmey fell to chills and abdominal pain, and many inside jokes were had, and everyooooone cheered! \o/
(Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.)

Shinko ... Since I will never read the expanded universe, I will cement as my own canon that Kyth is actually in Australia, the portal transported them there. (because Cleveland sucks.)

Haven't had much time to reread posts yet but I skimmed a few and—small spoiler: some of the characters who go unnamed in the first round end up being more of Things later on—the Early Character Syndrome of Jeniver's parents in this round is weirding me right out XD (idk if future characterization counts as spoilers but) This guy ended up as such a stiff that him smiling is so jarring now loool

We should start a counter for how many times Rosie beans somebody with a key. XD Or attempts to. I think it's two in the first round, I'm still reading. Morgaine stopped her for one of those though, which is REALLY, REALLY rude!!! She was trying to get them sales, she truly is blameless in all of this. So far, I agree with Coaster everyone who was in Maf III was trying really hard to keep the tone light because we were all super worn out from how dark and heavy that one got. For my part I wanted Rosie to be a light character because I couldn't do another character like my Maf III character, he drained me with how sad he was. Also, the Maf III references ease off as the RP comes into it's own, everyone who was in Maf III just really adored that RP so we couldn't not ref it. Despite my character draining me, I really love him so I wanted him to get little references through Rosalie. I might not keep up too well but it's fun seeing everyone's first posts because most of the characters changed and grew from their initial introductions.

Rosalie Dylas (Maddy) I know, I'm sorry, Morgaine is the rudest. Trying to defend random bystanders, the nerve! And Kelcey. Ooooh Kelcey. *Pats him* AveryHeh, I forgot how all over the place things were in Round One. Maddy's right though, the story does eventually settle and come into it's own, so for the newbies don't be too put off if things seem scattered right now. The plot definitely starts to solidify pretty much as soon as we hit Round 2 and the metagame actions start happening- right now everybody's mostly settling into their characters and getting a baseline for initial relationships going.

Lizica I have rediscovered the glory that is Standorf and Waller statues, and I am ashamed to have forgotten them. They were amazing and I am happy they did not succumb to the later Cerebus Syndrome. Tiger, Killix: From Kirin's first post:
Given how things turned out, I smiled at that just a bit. Oh, Kirin, you have no idea...

Finished re-reading Round 1, ahaha. I'm curious to see what other people's first impressions are. XD While I'm here, some drawings I've done over the past few days. First, a drawing that I made for Rosalie Dylas (Maddy) of Rosalie. Dear, sweet, brainless Kelcey for AveryAttempt number twenty billion on my part to draw Omni's character Orrin correctly, he's very hard. XD And, very slight spoilers if you haven't read through page 2 of the roleplay, for Avery and iconDestiney and the beautiful cholera scarf Kelcey made for her. < 3 And Aines, because he insisted on getting a snarky comment in.
