Welp, it's October and we all know what that means: it's almost time for NaNoWriMo! The main goal of NaNoWriMo is to write 50,000 words during the month of November, but of course in the broader sense it's just an incentive to get as much writing done as you can. Be that a fresh novel, continuation of an old work, an anthology of short stories, or whatever else you like! The main goal is that we write, and we write together. \ o / The NaNoWriMo event has it's own website that you can find here. You can sign up for an account there to get stats and fun wordcount widgets, but of course it isn't mandatory. This thread is for generally chatting purposes. You can also create your own thread within the subboard to discuss your personal writing project. Happy NaNo-ing everybody!

I'm not even gonna try and pretend to do an actual NaNo this year xD The past couple times have taught me that even if I say it and make a thread, nothing will get done x3;
Maybe I can still use the month to keep better track of my productivity in general? Only problem with that is usually what I make progress on is scattered or hard to track. For example, when developing my new story, I don't usually write the ideas down while thinking, and I'm not sure if I'd want to list them out as progress since none of it would be set in stone. What I accomplish one day could easily be rolled back the next.
Maybe I could just set simpler goals (emphasis on plural), like finishing my Blossoms script (which I've been chipping away at the past few days, and it's near done!) or getting as much of it illustrated as possible by the month's end?
Who knows. I might sleep on it and see if I still want to make a thread just as a progress tracker, but if I do, it definitely won't be for one project x3

XD Fair enough! I think that's reasonable, frankly, back in 2015 I did NaNo not by writing a novel but instead by tallying up the wordcount from my medieval fics and various roleplay posts. It was a very productive time for fics! I think as long as you feel like you've made progress on something, that's all that matters. X3 Oh, before I forget! I lost the login information for my old NaNo account, so I started fresh with a new one. Anybody who wants to friend me over there can find the new account at this link. nanowrimo.org/participants/heartstring-master

Yeah, I think so long as I can actually keep myself on it for the month (which will be a challenge in itself, looking at you, Inktober), I can still make progress on what I need to. Just, not a novel or one thing in particular x3 But yeah, the spirit of NaNo is just to make good progress, so we'll see if I end up joining in on that with an official thread or not:3
And ooh! *dusts cobwebs off of NaNo account* Friended!

As Shinko mentioned, you don't necessarily have to write 50,000 words, but use it as motivation to start/ complete projects that are on your to-do list/a backlog. I know that the unofficial times that I've joined NaNo, I've got some of my projects done and both were less than 50,000 words. I'm definitely thinking about doing another unofficial NaNo run again this year after sitting out for the past few. More than likely, it will be something related to Neo, but I haven't quite decided yet.

It's the first day of NaNoWriMo and the NaNo site isn't having a heart attack and showing a ton of server-load errors? 8O It's an early Christmas miracle.

I'm participating unofficially, to finish the first draft of my Space Fantasy novella. I wish the site had an option for setting your own goal, though. It would be really nice to be able to use it to motivate myself! But there's no way I'll write 50,000 and that seems to be the only way to do it...

There is- it's the "goal tracker" tab, you can use it to set a custom goal. = )

I might have a poke around with that- I've almost finished editing my existing material, then I'll be on to New Stuff and Hopefully Finishing That First Draft.

I'm participating this year. I started a day late, so I'm still playing catch-up, but hopefully I can make it up within a couple of days!
