Technically not an ancestor but she was around when they were, so that must count for something!
Available to the public for the first time: a drawing of Annabelle Dionte, by the lovely Celestial! <3
(with teeny diver for scale.)
A race of omnivorous, asexually-reproducing, sea monsters. For the main part, they putter around the ocean eating lots of fish and lots of plants and the occasional whale, and not bothering humans much at all. However, by consuming the life-force of sentient beings, these creatures can become Very Powerful Indeed.
...which is what Dion's 'sister' wanted to do (Dion alternates between calling them her 'sibling' and her 'sister' when communicating with humans- the creatures don't have a concept of gender but do have one of family, so 'sibling' is probably more accurate.) They took on a humanoid form and set out to absorb the life-force of as many humans as possible. They wanted to flood the earth, team Aqua style, so there would be lots of water and goodtimes for all! But they were found out and, since their parent was dead, custom dictated that Dion had to be the one to punish (i.e. kill) her sibling.
Dion was unsure about this. While the emotions of these creatures are more muted than humans (although when they take on other forms, their mind becomes a blend between the two, which is why she is so much more emotional as a human); she still cared about her sibling and hoped she could appeal to them. When this failed and she realised she would actually have to kill them, she tracked them down...only to find that they were already dead, thanks to a certain creation of Twillie. Thus, Dion can never know for sure if she would have been able to bring herself to do what needed to be done- something which haunts her to this day.
These creatures live to be thousands of years old, only stop growing at ~10,000 years of age, and are able to produce offspring at ~6000 years old. Sound is their strongest sense, and they are constantly vocalising in some fashion when around others of their kind- a good mental image is to think of them wrapping each other in sound, which conveys their intent, emotions, or anything else a human might communicate through sound or sight.
Extra notes on Dion in particular: She learned the female gender role while travelling among humans, and connects with it more strongly than any other. When she is in any other form, of course, she doesn't feel it applies quite so strongly.
The smallest creature mentioned in the last Dion-post is her sibling's child.
