Er, not to rain on anyone's parade, but I do believe that there was one year where comics (I don't remember about series or short stories) decided to make it the end of the NT. I'm not sure how it went.

We could declare White Weewoos a hoax, and every single White Weewoo in existence was just wearing a costume.

Or try-outs for a new NT mascot?

We keep getting more and more new ideas, which is awesome, brainstorming is cool. Yet we also do need to settle on an idea eventually, so we can start writing/planning. Preferably before April 1st. I don't know, maybe we should make a poll or something? Carolyn, you have experience with having people settle on a collab topic out of many ideas, does that sound right?

Poll sounds good to me. If it works, we can have the poll up for a week or two?

I guess a week or two would make sense. In the meanwhile, I don't think I'll have time to go through the thread and distill it into a poll until this weekend. Since I guess it would probably fall to me, since I made this thread. So I guess everyone can consider this a warning, a deadline to get all your ideas submitted by Friday?

Hi everyone. I was thinking about maybe starting back doing comics. I used to do some but it was like 2004 or something. A lot has changed. So I still do have my old tablet anyway.
What free drawing programs are good?
I remember liking to have a few layers going on. Like I could work on one layer doing a background and then another layer of line art over that. Then color over that. If I made a mistake I could go back a layer and fix it.
I remember people were using something called GIMP, I think. What do you use? I remember really stressing about line art, making smooth curves and such. Has that become any easier?
Anyway, I have a few ideas, some old and some new. This time if I start a comic I think I will just work a while on many of them until I finish instead of submitting a few and then not finishing up.

The only free drawing programs I can think of off the top of my head are GIMP, like you said, and FireAlpaca. Quite a few programs have tools to help stabilize your lines. Personally, I use GIMP. I think it's pretty good. I can make pretty straight lines with my mouse with the Smooth Stroke feature set. I can't say much for FireAlpaca since I haven't used it, but I think it has the feature for stabilizing lines, too (Stabilize? A friend on the boards told me about this once). Whatever you use, I'm sure your comics will turn out great. ^^

A good bunch of people to chat to about this would be those who frequent the Artists Chat Thread. They sometimes discuss such matters and I'm sure they'd have some good advice to give This thread here is mostly about discussing our plans for an April Fools' Edition of the NT, which we'd love to have you contribute a comic to of course! On the note of April Fools planning, was anything happening about a poll do we know? Or are we putting that off a bit more? (I mean I for one would like to start scheming once we know a topic, but it is early days yet)

smudgeoffudge I think your question might be better answered here There's even already discussion on that thread about good programs to use, both paid for and free. Just don't want this thread's discussion to get buried, so any recommendations can be carried to the Artist's Alley :3 EDIT: a wild ninja Reiqua appears!

(I mean I for one would like to start scheming once we know a topic, but it is early days yet) Oh, right. Sorry, I've been kind of working on homework since I got home on Friday evening, and just totally forgot about this poll thing I was supposed to probably do. It's going to take forever to sort through all these ideas and state each one in a word or few, and make sure I don't miss or repeat any, and then put them all in a poll. So maybe by tomorrow night?

Was just checking As you say, that's going to be a huge amount of work sifting through all the suggestions and coordinating them into a poll, please sing out if you need a hand!

I would love a hand, actually. I haven't even really figured out the best way to approach this yet.

June Scarlet Sure thing! How about if I go through while I have some time this afternoon and make a draft list of ideas to put on the poll. Then we can post it here and people can point out things I might've missed or say if a suggestion wasn't a serious suggestion, etc. I'd be really appreciative if you'd do the making of the poll, though xD
