We may want to suggest that folks go for an article or comic because of the enthusiastic response, but that they're welcome to try for a short story if they're inclined... but that early submission is recommended.

Wow, that's a LOT of short stories. I actually retrieved my story from my hard drive when my computer broke down, but maybe I won't submit it anyway because of all the other people going for short story submissions?

I actually retrieved my story from my hard drive when my computer broke down, but maybe I won't submit it anyway because of all the other people going for short story submissions? You know what? I have two different ways to look at it. On the one hand, go ahead and submit it, because you have nothing to lose. If on the offchance it doesn't make it, then you can resubmit it for Halloween. On the other hand, maybe you don't want your short story lost in a sea of other short stories. In which case, just submit it to the Halloween Issue straight out. You're more likely to get a special prize anyway from the Halloween issue than a collab issue, though it has sometimes happened with a collab. Also, just because there's 16 now doesn't mean 16 will submit. There's always several people who run out of time to finish their piece, and don't submit. So there's that to consider as well.

Like June said, the raw number =/= the actual submission number. You should be okay with the short story category as our average submission count, even with fifteen+ entries is around eleven or so. CQ has been pretty accommodating, too.
But there's also the other stuff to keep in mind (including that Halloween is more likely to have a prize of some kind).

A bit curious - when should I be looking at submitting?

A bit curious - when should I be looking at submitting? A month before issue 752 is probably the earliest you can do (before that, CQ sends rejections). Two weeks beforehand is pretty much the standard though.

A bit curious - when should I be looking at submitting? CQ hasn't given us any guidelines this time around, but based on her previous preferences, I would guess after Issue 750. She doesn't seem to mind cutting things close. Series would probably want to submit sooner, though.

Based on her current correspondence, two weeks prior is optimal, but a little later should be just fine.

Thanks for the tips, June and Carolyn! One quick question: would the Halloween issue be published on October 28th?

Can someone help bump the collab board on the Art Chat? D: I'm kinda busy bumping two other boards (Circus Week and I entered someone this week).

Hey I'm probably going to drop out of this one. I wasn't able to commit as much time to writing this time around and I don't want to try to rush out something. I will continue writing the series but just not for this collab. There are a lot of series already anyway.
Happy writing to you all!

Well, I got part of the short story down, but a combination of writer's block and a busy schedule, not to mention my mom constantly on my back, is conspiring against me. I definitely hate to do this, but I have no choice but to drop out and submit the short story at a later time. Sorry.
