Okay, do we have a date? I want to start advertising, but I want to do it when a date is decided.

Howdy, all! Update. CQ responded and said this: Well, folks, do y'all think we have enough time to put it off? We'd have 2 months. I think that would be enough time, but will y'all have enough time to get something done by then? This date, Rabbit ♠. October 7th.

You're a true life-saver, Rabbit. @__@ Thank you so much for taking the initiative and making the boards for me. Is anyone a Premium member and willing to make a board on Charter?

It's no problem, Carolyn. I like making the boards. Right now, the ArC board has gotten some attention (probably because I offer votes). The other two got zilch. I'm not a Premium member, so I can't do that. Otherwise I would. Also, can I put this in the new Ghoul Catchers board? BONUS: While not collab related, I also made an issue 750 preparation board on the Avie boards almost two weeks ago. Feel free to stop by there. Edit: Hey, someone from the Help board wants to take part! I'm sorry, I've been wanting to do that. XD

Now this is all rumors picked up in the shady alleyways and back streets of Moltara where respectable Neopets do not go. They only will tell of it in hushed whispers, never knowing if they are speaking to a sympathizer or a spy. For a price, you can hear parts of the story, and before long you will believe you have heard everything.
Before being discovered by other Neopets, Moltara was running a secret mining operation. It is believed that many towns members were in on it. They got rich by using cheap petpets for manual labor. This would have never been allowed, but this operation was entirely self contained and remained undetected for many years. When the valuable ore was discovered, it didn't take long to discover that using petpets was cheaper than using machinery which often broke down. Although some of the more intelligent of petpets were able to be trained to operate machinery, Some petpets were used to drill or blast out the mine with their various abilities. Some of the petpets were quite stupid and docile. They did their tasks with little fuss and seemed eager to please their masters. Although they could chew through stone, sniff out ores, sort ores, or even breathe fire to run the smelter, the underground was not their native home. They suffered from not having the sunlight and living conditions they needed. They overworked the petpets and bought new ones in if any showed signs of becoming sick, stubborn, or slack in their work. They have paid off health inspectors and others to turn a blind eye to it. One day there was an incident down in the mines and they had to close them forever. No one really knows how it started, but a strange darkness filled the mines. The petpets suddenly had more sentience than before and began to resist their task masters. They had to have help from somewhere. The lamp maker in town kept experimenting with lamps because a lamp full of the special worms seemed to be the only thing that could penetrate the darkness in the mines. But only to a certain extent. Pets are able to get to some of the Red Moltite in the mines now. Before, this was considered an inferior ore, not worth much notice. Now they had to cut their losses and take what they could get. No one speaks of the evil down in the darkness. There is the one monster that some pets see down there, but is mostly all roar without too much fight in it. Pets are usually able to run away from him.
There are rumors that the petpets that became trapped in the mines were converted or evolved and became minions to whatever was living down there. Pets are lucky to see the one monster that inhabits the upper levels. Strange skitterings, booms and other sounds are heard as if the mining is still going on below. It can be really disturbing to hear it. Strangely, instead of insulating their homes against the sounds, Folks in Motara started decorating their homes with large gears and things that made noises so they could cover up the sounds from below. The mines are sealed off now, but various towns members are posted to guard it, without appearing to guard it. Such as that tonu who is "guarding" the lava pit. Visiting pets believed that the gears were just part of the decor. But every dish of food has a gear with it, this is used to replace lost ones or to build more.
Now Moltar is a busy city, bustling with life at all hours. It is only during a brownout that the city is quiet enough to hear the sounds from below. The last time it happened the residents carried on as if this was normal or pretended to have a street festival celebrating the good old days of Moltara, when energy was more scarce. Anything to ignore the sounds from below.
Now Tangar is working on machinery and machine neopets which might be better suited to life in the mines. Who knows, these new creations may even enjoy working there. From time to time they will send a few below to see if they will return, and although they have run many training scenarios, none of them ever did.
I wrote this story but in my mind, I would actually like to have an actual slave labor camp with neopets, but I don't think this would be allowed. I am also sort of iffy if even petpets would be allowed. Plus this is not canonical so I would have to at least say this is all a rumor and it might not even be true. The sounds from below the mine could just be sounds the core of Neopia always makes and that any of the older neopians can tell you it has always sounded like that. I like this idea but I don't think it would make it into the times really, unless toned down a lot, which isn't as interesting.

smudgeoffudge Slaves- yeah, 100% no. Servants are canon, however! I wouldn't worry about the other stuff being too dark- I mean, TNT wrote about an insanitorium and there were skeletons left over from the inmates escaping. (Poor Nurse Lucy.) Heck, I wrote about a bunch of possessed dolls that royally wrecked Neovia and will do it again in my next story. Really, just have fun with it, flesh it out. Explore the subject! But you'll also find that you're going to have to dumb things down a bit. Maybe write two versions- one where it's the really freaking dark and the other that's not as dark. It's a method I often use as I'm used to writing for an older, more mature audience- writing bloodcore zombie novels and then jumping to sparkling unicorns on the midgrade level can sometimes be... difficult.

What if every daily character is there for their own punishment. They have done something "bad" and they will be there to serve us, for all "eternity". They have to pretend to like their job, smiling even as they do the same monotonus job over and over. Even the nice looking kiko pop character has done something "bad". He has to listen to the same kiko pop music over and over. Imagine that. I once decided to listen to it all the way through. It continues a good while before starting over. I do like the kiko pop song but it would get old fast. Some characters such as the haunted woods characters I think are there because they actually like their jobs and rip pets off a lot, of many neopoints.
Maybe the Faeries who are always at their location are also under a curse to serve us. Or maybe there is something hidden nearby, a gateway or poral that neopets are never meant to find. They pretend to do daily events in order to guard this forever from detection.

Okay, so the boards aren't attracting as much attention as I hoped. The boards for the last two collabs went better. I'm gonna take a break from keeping them up. If anyone wants to bump them, feel free. I'll pick them back up in a week. So where can we spread the word? Some boards, guilds, is that it? If anyone wants to spread the word to their guild, that'd be awesome. I did that with my guild, but that's pretty inactive these days (IT'S A CURSE, WHATEVER GUILD I JOIN BECOMES INACTIVE). So yeah.

Feel free to ask your Neofriends from around the site if they're interested. We're up to approximately 34, but we're always happy to add more! One word of caution: if all of the series people submit, they're going to want to stagger their entries. This may mean submitting earlier due to the timing of 750 or specifically asking for 751.

Please downgrade me to tentative because I'm low on time, ideas, and worst of all...motivation. I do have part one written from a month ago but the well has been dry since.

The amount of short stories we're getting is both impressive and slightly worrying all at the same time.
