( Ehehehhee. ) The group remained in their formation, keeping their eyes firmly on the puddles underneath the skulls.
Small shiny beetles and scruffy rodents were scattered around the building in tiny nooks, visible if one looked close enough. She spotted them and scooped up beetles while pondering how to deliver them to the sludge beasts, simultaneously nicknaming them that. The beetles were the right sizes, and they weren't wet on the outside or sticky... Sometimes living in a desert caused her to forget she wasn't limited to sand. She tried to lift the beetles without using her hands or her sand. Their bodies wobbled, shook, arose slightly, but would not otherwise obey her. She'd once known the feel of beetles and how to move them, but the memory hadn't seemed important and she'd erased it. She couldn't access a tutorial right now because for some reason the database was down. Irritably she gathered a handful of beetles and threw them at the sludge beasts. The beetles dropped against the ground and began to scramble around. Some of the creatures decided to lend attention to them, but it was mainly in the form of a playful paw or head tilt. Other than that they seemed to mainly be focusing on each other.

She lowered it down toward the sludge beasts, and flung it towards them. This time the whole group flinched in response. They stared at it in tense silence for some seconds before one took a large paw and quickly batted the dazed mouse into one of the tar puddles.
The mouse tried to pull away, but like hot glue it's movements were increasingly slowed as the consistency around it thickened. It soon became submerged.
As if to a rhythm or pattern the tar rippled, gradually pulling itself in to resemble something slightly more solid. Small tendrils reached out from it to the skull's underside. The mass lifted itself back up to nestle within and begin a slower process of working longer tendrils down the neck and into the body again. With a now secured grip, the creature carefully got back up.

Her observations confirmed her suspicions, and now it was time to roast these things. A voice in her head pointed out they still didn't seem much different from regular predators, and she shouldn't attack something that wasn't attacking her. All things someone would say if she killed them without losing and arm or leg first. Entropy, she hated civilians. But Caracura was pretty good at getting them off her back. She glanced at her human hand and tacked in a "usually" to her previous thought. Then she radiated some sludge beast heads, playing a little song in her head while she did.

Their bodies lay down and the tar clinging to them pooled together on the ground.
Wispy blue mist began to slither around the rubble along the building and ground, but it didn't seem to be coming from a source.

Was it because of what she'd done to the pack? Were these creations of some insane person who lived in the city? Were they about to show up because what she'd done? She hastily grabbed another rodent and launched it into the sludge pool.

It stretched on and rose like water, enveloping the floors of the buildings one by one.

As it rose, the objects around it seemed to waver in their transparency. It could be sworn that the mist was even going through them. Catching up to the rooftop, it spilled over towards Chiller's feet, swirling to form a dense plain of bulbous clouds as far as what could be seen.

The clouds swirled once again and then dissipated all at once, leaving nothing in sight except for vast whiteness and emptiness. No sky, no walls, no distinct floor, though something was still holding Chiller up as if there would be one.

The air got a bit colder, but besides that the whiteness remained. Looking around provided no sense of direction or distance. She sighed and sat down. The sigh echoed, lending the impression of a large cave or tunnel. The ground remained invisible, but still supported her. There was no reflection or anything to imply solidity. It looked as if the floor could be "reached" into.
