For once, Seamus actually started putting his bookkeeping supplies away early. He'd been keeping very careful track of the passing time, not wanting to be late for- or worse, miss- what he had planned for tonight. It was August, just a week before the wedding day of Lady Isabelle Stallion and Sir Hector Guinne. Most of the frenzied preparations were finished, to Seamus' eternal relief. It had been an extremely stressful past few months for him, trying to get the accounts in order as money seemed to fly of its own accord from Stallion coffers to pay the wedding expenses. It wasn't every day the heir to a major Kythian house was wed, after all, and at the very least all the minor houses of Bern would be sending representatives. That wasn't even going into the lords from the other regions. Probably some Kineans and Rindfellians at the very least would be in attendance. All of this had to be accommodated for in food purchases, housing, and... Seamus gave himself a rough slap on the cheek, dismissing these thoughts from his mind. With the exception of any inevitable last-minute crisis, that had all been dealt with. It was done, and more or less out of his hands now. Tonight he was not going to think about it. Instead he was going to do something a lot more pleasant. During the course of the wedding preparations, Seamus had met and befriended the groom, Sir Hector. The man was extremely friendly and likeable, and took a keen interest in the wedding preparations. Seamus, who had a bad habit of overworking, had pushed himself to the brink of breakdown a few times during the early stages of the planning. The stewards and quartermaster averted that potential crisis no less than three times before Hector got wind of it- and the knight was horrified when he learned how badly Seamus was stressing himself out. Hector insisted he just wanted to marry the love of his life and be happy, and he wouldn't be able to be happy if his wedding drove someone insane. He started happily dragging Seamus out of the book room for forced breaks, introducing the bookkeeper to his best friend Lindsey Burns in the process. The young bookkeeper hadn't managed to push himself to the point of collapse again with the two of them conspiring, something he was intensely grateful to them for. Seamus liked Hector for his affable, easygoing friendliness, and Lindsey was amusing in his unabashed snark. Now, with only a week to go before the wedding was finally upon them, it was Seamus' turn to do the conspiring. He and Lindsey had a surprise in store for the groom-to-be. Making his way down to the military barracks, the bookkeeper looked around for a bit before finally spotting Lindsey leaning on the fence that surrounded the tilting yard. A grin split his face, and he gave a short whistle to announce his presence before trotting towards the man. "Hey there, Lindsey," he said cheerfully. "Ye all set tae go fetch Hector?" Set in the August of 1315, Seamus Dun has been conspiring with the Stallion knight Lindsey Burns to spring a surprise bachelor party on soon-to-be-married Hector Guinne. Shenanigans ensue! \ o /

Lindsey had been leaning on the face, bored out of his skull as he tried to occupy himself while he waited for his friend. It had barely been ten minutes and he had already gone from shifting from foot to foot to running his finger across the fence to humming an old song that he had half-forgotten just to stop drifting off. The knight had never had even the smallest shred of patience and there was only so much thinking he could do about the evening ahead. So it had been a relief when the whistle split the air and forced Lindsey out of his boredom-induced frenzy. He smiled wryly up as the bookkkeeper approached and lifted his hand up, palm flat, in a gesture of greeting. "Took you long enough, Seamus. I was beginning to think you'd decided to stay in and work, as you do," Lindsey pushed himself up from where he was leaning on the fence, straightening out and stretching his arms upwards. "Hector's in the dining room, having a snack last time I checked. I told him to wait and keep his plans open for tonight, which he has bless him. I'll go fetch him, you wait here." The young knight turned around and went into the large barracks, the door swinging shut behind him. A few other knights passed by Seamus as he waited but they had gotten used to the bookkeeper coming down to meet with their two comrades. All they did was exchange a few knowing grins. Seamus's presense meant at least one, if not both Hector and Lindsey were not going to return completely sober. After a while, Lindsey returned and following at his heel was the groom-to-be himself, his freckled face coloured by his usual smile. A smile that turned into a grin when he saw the bookkeeper. "Hey Seamus! You're looking well, what's happening?" he shouted as he waved to him. "Rare for you to come drag me out, usually we're the ones doing that. I take it everything is set for...you know," he gave a soft laugh, his face flushing to match the tone of his hair. "I can't believe that's happening!" "Well, it's happening, you're marrying the love of your love, and you better accept it. I know it is a heavy burden but neither Seamus nor the Duchess will appreciate you skipping out on it," Lindsey rolled his eyes and patted him on the back. "Don't worry about it for now. We've arranged something special for you tonight." "Really?" Hector's eyes lit up and he looked between Lindsey and Seamus. "Where are we going?" "Pubs," Lindsey folded his arms and the corner of his mouth twisted up as he gave Seamus a glance. "In plural." Lindsey is glad to see Seamus, since he is dying of boredom. He goes to grab Hector, who cannot believe he's getting married, asfjk, and reveal that they are taking him on a pub crawl.

When Lindsey returned with Hector, the bookkeeper's face split in a wide grin. "Aye, everything is set, or as set as it can possibly be. But that's a consideration for next week." Seamus let Lindsey spring the suprise on Hector, his smile widening as the knight spoke. "After all, tis nae long before ye'll be a married man. Got tae take the few opportunities we have left tae kidnap ye, eh?" The bookkeeper winked, and turned with a gesture for the two knights to follow. As they started to walk out towards the gates of the castle, he added in a teasing tone, "I hope ye appreciate all the work Lindsey 'n I put intae this. I never realized how many inns and pubs there are in Destrier until we started weedin' through 'em for tonight's itinerary." As they emerged out of the castle grounds, he gestured to the High Street. "This first one's all my treat- ever wanted tae visit The Silver Crown?" The Silver Crown was easily one of the most expensive bars in all of Destrier. Not impossible for a common person to afford, but a bit out of the reasonable price range for a casual night on the town. It was generally only frequented by merchants, lower nobility, or common people celebrating some very special occasion. Like an impending wedding. Seamus leads the two knights out of the castle, and announces that he intends to start the night off by spoiling Hector with a very expensive pub- being a rich noble has perks.

As Lindsey and Seamus both explained their plans for tonight, Hector's goofy smile grew even wider. "You two...you are the best friends ever," he reached over and threw his arms around Lindsey. The other knight gave Seamus on the other side of the fence a pleading look but for a second, his face softened and he returned the hug. "Ah, it's nothing. It's only fair we do something special to celebrate, we're your friends," Lindsey finally replied and wriggled out of Hector's grasp before straigtening out his tunic. "And Seamus is right. We need to make the most of you while we still have you. You're not going to have time for us now that you make eyes at your new wife out in the open." "Lindsey, Seamus..." Hector turned his head back and forth between them with the look of a puppy watching its beloved owner leave. "Just because I'm marrying Isabelle doesn't mean I won't have time for you. You're still going to be my friends." "We're kidding, relax. But good to know you're not abandoning us for the Duchess completely," Lindsey smirked and slapped him on the back. "Now come on, time's a wasting. We got a full schedule ahead of us and so help me, if we get stuck and don't get round to it all," he glanced around Hector and caught Seamus' eye. "I don't know about you but I'll be annoyed at all our hard work going to the dogs." Hector nodded and without further ado, the company departed the castle. Passing through the gates, the guards on duty gave them sly smiles, with one of them calling to Lindsey and Seamus that they better bring Hector back safe and relatively sober, or the Duchess would have their head. To which the two knights responded with shrugs, as well as a grin from Hector. The party proceeded down to the Silver Crown, with the two knights having to measure their paces to keep their excitement from showing, something Lindsey did a lot better than Hector. Nothing was better than free drinks, except perhaps free drinks at a place that was normally out of their range. But with a noble's deep pockets and an excuse to party, there was nothing out of limits. When they entered the inn, Lindsey gave a small whistle of appreciation. "Not bad, you can tell this is a quality place. I bet they don't water their booze down here. And they look like they have good whisky here too," he said with a glance over at the bar, over which were stacked several bottles. Hector for his part, flopped down in one of the chairs at a table near the door, spreading himself out and relaxing. "If you're paying, Seamus...I guess it's best to start out slow. Beer for me." "And me too," Lindsey pulled up two extra seats and sat down on one them. "Since we're here, make sure you get good stuff. I know you're not made of money but you said you'd pay so..." he waved his hand and gave Seamus a teasing smirk. Hector is beyond grateful to his friends and he promises not to abandon them after he is the married. The three friends set off and, after some teasing from the guards, arrive at the Silver Crown, where Lindsey remarks on the quality of the pub and the knights settle in, since Seamus is buying the round.

"Nae, they take pride in the hops here," Seamus replied in answer to Hector's remark about watering the booze. "Whatever we get, it'll be the good stuff." Seamus grinned at the observation that they should start out slow, nodding. "We've quite a few places tae hit tonight, so we don't wanna start off at a sprint. It's gonna take some good pacing tae make it through the whole list, but nae so much pacing we forget tae have fun with it." To Lindsey he added teasingly, "Aw, 'n here I was thinkin' we'd come tae this high class place 'n just get some cheap ale. Oh well; if I must murder my pockets, so be it. The Woo looks well upon martyrs." He walked up to the bar, returning a few minutes later with three mugs of foaming amber colored liquid. He passed one each to Hector and Lindsey. Aside from the usual slightly sharp, bitter tang of the alcohol, the beer also gave off a fruity smell. "This is an expensive brew, but a good one," Seamus explained. "It's called a Sourpeach Snap. It's got peach juice mixed in while it was fermenting, with some lemon added afterwards tae give it a bit of a kick. Try it, I bet ye'll love it." He held up his own mug with mock solemnity. "A toast boys- tae a fun time tonight, tae the grand lecture the Duchess is gonna give us when we get back later... oh, and tae Hector getting married tae the love of his life at long last." Seamus teases the knights, buys them expensive fruity beer, and then makes a toast.

Hector shook his head and rubbed the back of his neck. "If you planned all this for me, we should...but I'll just be happy to drink with you wherever we are," he grinned. "The exepensive stuff is a bonus though." Lindesy folded his arms in response to Seamus's remark, the corner of his mouth quirking up. "Seamus, there is a phrase that we knights hold very dear to our hearts; greater love hath no man than one who lays down his life for his friends," he shrugged his shoulders. "But since you probably aren't going to lay down your life for us, I suppose your money will have to be the next best thing you lay down." They both sat back as Seamus went to get them their ale, sitting up only when the bookkeeper had returned and taking the mugs from his hands in order to lighten the load. Hector immediately took a sip of the frothy top, the foam clinging to his lips as he drank, while Lindsey was more cautious and gave the ale a sniff. "It's...sweet. Sweet and sour," Hector remarked once the ale had rolled over his tongue. He shivered a little as the lemon tingle hit him and grinned. "It's good." "Really, what did you expect from something called Sourpeach snap?" Lindsey rolled his eyes and took a sip of his own mug. Even though he did not comment on the taste, the way he raised his eyebrows and the glint in his eye said everything; he enjoyed it. The two knights raised their glasses and took large gulps of their beer at Seamus's toast. The mug hid Hector's face but when he put his glass down, the blush that had spread across the bridge of his nose and his cheeks became very apparently. "I just...I can't believe it's happening, and in a week too. I'm going to be Isabelle's husband," he let out a nervous laugh. "It's happening whether you believe it or not," Lindsey smirked. "And since you're going to be her husband, how about we let you field that lecture, eh? What do you say, Seamus?" he cast a glance at the bookkeeper. "He's got more of a chance to be spared anyway." The knights (well, Lindesy) tease Seamus right back. They seem to both enjoy the beer and take part in the toast, before Hector is adorkable about his upcoming marriage and Lindsey proposes that since he's going to be Issie's husband, they should let her deal with her rage.

Seamus smiled as the two knights drank the beer, obviously enjoying it. "I only discovered this stuff myself about four months back, the first time the quartermaster kicked me out of the castle tae stop me fretting myself tae pieces over the wedding. But it's already one of my favorites." He took another sip, enjoying the flavors of the drink rather than guzzling it down to get as drunk as he could as quickly as possible like some might have. With expensive drinks like this, you were supposed to drink slowly and savour. At Lindsey's suggestion about Hector taking the brunt of Isabelle's anger, the bookkeeper traced the rim of his mug with a finger, his expression mockingly pensive. "Tough call, that, tough call. On the one hand, yer right that he's got a better chance tae quell the righteous fury. On the other... dinnae if we'll be able tae escape before she turns the wrath on us. Might be easier tae just owe up tae the guilt." Then he took another swig, and then grinned impishly. "Nah. That one's all yers, Hector. Dinnae worry, ye just have tae smile 'n compliment her 'n she'll nae be able tae stay mad." He shook his head, an aggrieved expression on his face. "Wish I had that kind of talent. Lads 'n lassies, it dinnae matter a wit. I try 'n make a pass 'n they just laugh at me. Meanwhile all Hector has tae do is smile and the Duchess smiles right back, or at least sighs and cannae be angry anymore." The bookkeeper pointed an accusatory finger at Hector, "Maybe it's good for me 'n Lindsey that yer getting hitched. Ye'll have a fancy ring tae chase off the lads and ladies with, then maybe we'll have a chance." Seamus drinks, agrees with Lindsey about letting Hector get yelled at by Isabelle, and then makes teasing small talk about flirting and the fact that our poor bookkeeper is sort of bad at it. And, in case anyone was curious and didn't already know, Seamus reveals that he is in fact bi. Equal opportunity fail-flirting! \ o /

Hector took another sip, savouring the flavours this time as the peach and lemon swirled around his mouth. He smiled up at Seamus. "I'm glad he did. This is really good beer...and I wouldn't have wanted you stressing over my wedding. I appreciate it but I'll be happy no matter what, Seamus, as long as I get to marry Isabelle," the knight's blush grew a little bit more at that. However, at the discussions between Lindsey and Seamus, he stared up at them, blinking and glancing back and forth between them. By now, his face had turned almost as red as his hair. "You...you think she'll really be mad?" Lindsey chuckled softly and patted him on the shoulder. "She cannot stay mad at you, Hector. So we're going to leave you to face the Duchess. Just give her a kiss and cuddle her a little, I guarantee you she will melt in front of you before you even know it," he took a sip of his own beer "But if she cancels the wedding and wastes all of Seamus's effort, you will be to blame. So you better charm her." Hector bowed his head, solemn for a moment, before he smiled again and nodded. "I shall. I want to marry her, and I don't want Seamus's work to be wasted." "That and Seamus is right, we do need to remove you from the competition, at least for his sake," Linsey sat back in his seat, smirking knowingly at Seamus. "It isn't just the Duchess too. You only came here after he was already involved with her but back in Konik and when we came to Destrier, if we went anywhere, girls would be all over him, no effort. He isn't even flirty on purpose. Of course, Hector, you were too sweet to ever return their attention properly." "I did like the attention they gave me, but it never felt right," Hector shrugged and shook his head. "But I have Isabelle now anyway." "Lucky for us," Lindsey remarked, putting his hands around his mug. "But I don't want you two to be alone. You're my friends, I want you to be happy," Hector glanced between Seamus and Lindsey before his eyes brightened and his face was split by a smile. "Maybe you'll meet somebody tonight? Since we're going to so many places, it's possible," he gave Seamus in particular an earnest look. "I'm sure you're not that bad at flirting." More banter, in which Hector worries Issie will be mad, which Lindsey dismisses. He also reveals Hector was very popular with the girls before Isabelle and agrees that it is a good thing Hector is getting married. But Hector, being sweet, suggests they should meet somebody on the bar crawl.

Seamus laughed at Lindsey's revelation that Hector had been popular with the ladies before he met Isabelle. "I cannae claim to be surprised. He's got an earnest, friendly face. Would charm any lass." He took another sip of his beer, but gagged on a laugh at the suggestion that he'd find someone during the pub crawl. "I... I dinnae Hector," he said, once he'd gotten his breath back. "Lesser noble sons are kind of stuck in limbo. There's nae advantage politically tae another noble marrying us like there is with noblewomen, 'n most peasants are tae intimidated tae consider trying." With a meaningful smirk at the two knights he added, "That or they just want free beer. 'N let's be honest, even if I could flirt 'n be charming, ye two both know there's nae a word of it could be understood once I really get drunk." He took another sip, then shrugged. "If it happens, it happens, but I'm nae gonna look for it. Tonight's about us having fun, after all. 'N it's nae like we're 'alone' anyway. Ye already said yer not scarpering off as soon as ye get married, aye? Even if ye are busy sometimes, we can still manage the two of us I'm sure." Seamus is self-conscious about his rank and admits it makes having a love life complicated for him. But he dismisses it and says even if he doesn't have a significant other, friends are just as good right?

Though the beer mug he picked up hid it, Lindsey smirked at Seamus's words, "Lads too, though they were of less interest to Hector. Got an eye for girls that one," he took a sip of his drink and the wry smile grew a little wider. "I warned him but he thought the Duchess would be immune to his charms. And now look where he's ended up." "She was just...so aloof and tough, and she was my friend. She was different," Hector blushed to the tips of his ears and then grinned, shrugging his shoulders. "I don't want to be anywhere else though, Lindsey. I love her, so much." "I know you do, you doofus," Lindsey patted him on the shoulder and brought his beer up to take another drink as he listened to Seamus. But when the nobleman began talking about peasants, the knight's green eyes grew a little darker and he hunched over his mug, studying every single bubble on the surface of the liquid inside with a great intensity. Hector glanced over at him, noticing Lindsey's sudden silence, and put a hand on his shoulder, giving it a small squeeze accompanied by a small, encouraging smile while Seamus wasn't looking. Once he was sure Lindsey was not going to remain in the foul mood that had overcome him, Hector turned back to Seamus, the affable grin returning to his face. "I'm sure you'll find somebody though, even if it's not now. You're a nice person and you have a friendly face, plus you're smart. Don't give up so easily." He put one arm around Seamus and another around Lindsey, clapping their shoulders. "I'm not leaving either of you. I love Isabelle but you are both my friends, I am not abandoning you both." "Don't get ahead of yourself," Lindsey piped up and drained his mug completely. "We don't know what the Duchess will need you for. For all we know, she will be keeping you busy all the time. After all, none of us know what married life is like yet, nor will be any time soon, will we?" Hector swallowed. "But if I do...you two will be alright on your own, right? If I'm too busy with Isabelle?" Lindsey talks more about Hector's flirty past before clamming up at Seamus's comment. Hector picks up on him mood and encourages him before talking to Seamus some more, giving time for Lindsey to return to his snarky self.

The awkward silence that fell over Lindsey was not missed by Seamus, who looked towards the knight with concern. What had he said wrong? Was Lindsey offended somehow? Maybe because they were peasants and they were his friends anyway? But friendship wasn't the same as dating... The bookkeeper glanced aside momentarily, downing the rest of his drink. He felt uncomfortable and guilty, but he wasn't sure why Lindsey was upset so he didn't know what to say to fix it. Fortunately, Hector took up the thread of the conversation again before the moment could stretch too long. He forced himself to smile at the knight. "We'll see. Though my smarts are as much a deterrent as a benefit, when I get tae rambling about math. But I'm nae giving up, just being realistic." He was silent while Lindsey and Hector talked about how life was going to change once Hector was married. When the redhead asked if they would be alright on their own once Hector was married, Seamus' impulse was to assure him that of course they would... but he still felt a prickle of unease about that earlier moment of awkward silence. With what he hoped was an apologetic expression, though he still didn't really know what he'd done or said wrong, he turned to Lindsey and said, "If he can put up with me 'n my inability tae comprehend diplomacy." In a more upbeat tone he added, "I certainly hope so, since without ye two I'd never leave the book room. 'N how boring a life would that be?" Noticing that Lindsey had finished his drink as well and Hector seemed close to it, the nobleman stood. "Since we came tae such a highbrow place, ye can nae leave without tryin' one of the fancy cocktails." He grinned broadly. "I think we're up for one more round before moving on, 'n since I'm still treating I'll pick what it is." The bookkeeper went back up to the bar, and returned with three smaller glasses full of a yellowish liquid with a creamy foam at the top. It gave off a distinct smell of bacon, and a slight undercurrent of maple syrup. He pushed them towards the knights, and tipped back his own with a mischievous, "Cheers!" Seamus notices awkward silence and discretely apologizes for whatever he said that upset Lindsey. Then, he gets them a really weird cocktail because trololol.

Hector shot Seamus a dorky smile. "There's nothing wrong with being smart. Isabelle is really smart and I really like that about her, even if it does mean she can out-think me a lot of the time. And I admire you for being smart too, but in a different way to her of course. Even if I don't understand what you are talking about, I still like listening to you," he reached over and clapped Seamus on the back. "If anything, the most unattractive thing is how you put yourself down. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy," Lindsey said as he rolled his eyes, having fully recovered from whatever had beset him. "It's not even like you're the only human in the world who loves numbers anyway." He raised an eyebrow as Seamus spoke to him, wondering where that statement had come from, but he lifted up his hand anyway, waving it dismissively. "Oh yes, because we're both master diplomats, Seamus, and you're the only idiot who doesn't know what he is doing. Maybe me and Hector can give you lessons on it?" he said, his tone dripping with the gentle jab of sarcasm, further hammered home by his wry smile. "Certainly would give you more excuses to leave that stuffy place beyond just boozing with us. Perhaps by the end of those lessons you'll be more instead of less comprehensible, for once?" Both of the knights loked intrigued when Seamus announced his intention to buy them the fancy cocktails. Hector quickly finished his drink as the bookkeeper went back to the bar and gave Lindsey a sideways glance, one that the other knight returned as they silently speculated what Seamus was going to bring them or how cruel he would be. When the auburn-haired man returned carrying the glasses, they each took theirs carefully, with Lindsey raising an eyebrow at the strange concoction while Hector gave it a sniff. "I hope you're not trying to poison us," the former commented, still eyeing the cocktail. "It smells smokey...and sweet?" the red-headed knight frowned, trying to comprehend it. "What is it?" "Only one way to find out," Lindsey remarked. "You first, Hector. You're the one usually charging in, I wouldn't want to usurp you." Hector blinked and put the cocktail to his lips, licking off some foam from the top. He blinked as he took in the taste and gave a little shiver before he tilted his head back and downed the cocktail in one. "Ahh, that was good! Though how do they get alcohol to taste like that?" Lindsey went slower with his drink, still drinking it in one but not gulping it like his friend had done. "I...I have never had anything like it," he murmured. "It's so strange. I didn't even know this place would do this sort of thing, it seemed too high-brow for shenanigans." "That's bacon in there, I think? And...maple syrup?" Hector asked Seamus, giving him a grin like a child that had just proudly solved a difficult problem on his homework. "Correct?" Hector assures Seamus that smart is hot and Lindsey roundaboutly assures him that he is not alone in liking numbers. He then snarks at him some more, reassuring him that he's over whatever it was that annoyed him. The two knights then drink the weird cocktails, which they like even if it's a weird drink.

Seamus was relieved that Lindsey seemed to have recovered from whatever was bothering him, and chuckled ruefully at his comment that listing all the reasons he was unlikely to find a date was only going to doom him before he started. It was a valid point. He was grateful to both knights for their support. He watched with amusement as they finished their cocktails. He chuckled at their commentary, nodding when Hector took a guess at the contents. "Bacon 'n syrup, aye, 'n egg yolk as well. Thats why it's so yellow. I dinnae know how they make it, but it's fun tae see the expressions on people's faces when they try it for the first time. Breakfast beer; nae one sees it coming." He winked at Lindsey, adding, "The place may be high-brow, but that does nae mean the barkeeper does nae have a sense of humor. It's still a bar after all, if an expensive one. Trust me, I've heard of weirder- apparently in the Brachyura territories they make a kinda booze that has fish eggs 'n chocolate in it." The bookkeeper stretched, looking for all the world like a contented cat. "So; we could keep digging intae my pockets here, or we could move on before we get tae much booze in our systems tae stumble along the route. 'S up tae ye. Lindsey, I think the next place was one of yer picks?" Seamus is very much amused by the knights' reactions to the cocktails, and then suggests that they move on to the next location on their pub crawl itinerary.

Hector turned back to his cocktail, picking up the glass and examining it carefully before he took in the last few drops that had been left at the bottom. "It's fun but you really don't want to combine breakfast and beer, not normally anyway." "Captain Fyfe would have our hides for it if we did. Though I definitely wouldn't drink this stuff normally. Sorry, Seamus, but I like my breakfast in a form I can chew. Barkeep is playing a joke on whoever has this stuff, that's for sure" Lindsey said as he finished his own cocktail. An unexpected laugh escaped from him as he put the glass down. "Fish eggs and chocolate...Albion has odd tastes," he raised an eyebrow and smirked at Hector. "Since you're going to be part of the family, perhaps you should ask her Grace about it." "Lady Margot?" Hector blinked and shook his head. "I don't think she's even the sort to drink, let alone know about anything like that. Besides, even though I'm going to be part of the family, it feels strange to be familiar with them." "You'll get used to it. You got used to it with Isabelle after all. In fact, you never really respected her rank, ever," the other knight remarked. "Yes but...it's different with Isabelle. She's my friend, and I love her now. Whereas Lady Margot and his Grace, especially his Grace, are people I swore to serve as a knight," Hector said, giving a few enthusiastic nods to emphasise his point. "Oh we know. We're all employed by them after all. But enough about work. Seamus is right, we best move on before we get too cosy here and drive Seamus to beg on the streets," Lindsey grinned as his eyes acquired a mischievous look. He pushed himself up against the table. "Oh yes, I got a good one planned out. I want to see your face when you see it, Hector. Let's just say it's...appropriate," he glanced at Seamus. "I didn't want to tell you the story without Hector being present. But you'll find out soon enough." *** The party headed back up to the High Street, which as usual was buzzing with activity. As they went closer to the castle, Lindsey continued to glance at Hector and give him smirks, as well as sometimes letting the odd laugh into his speech. The alcohol was getting to him first, it seemed. Meanwhile, the redheaded knight kept glancing between him and his two friends, trying to gain some kind of clue about where they were taking him. He got it as soon as Lindsey stopped in front of the pub. A sign hung down from it depicting a slender white horse with a long horn protruding out of its forehead, standing on a cliff overlooking a landscape. The words 'The Lonely Unicorn' hung beneath it, proclaiming the name for those who could read it. Hector stared at it with his mouth open and then turned to Lindsey, his eyes wide. "What, here?! For my bachelor party of all things?" his cheeks were beginning to flush crimson. "That's exactly why. I thought the innkeeper would like to know that he had a hand in what is going to happen in a few days," Lindsey laughed softly and then turned over to Seamus, grinning like a cheshire cat that had not only gotten the cream but the fish too. "Never let it be said that Hector doesn't treat his friends equally. About four years ago, he decided it would be a good idea to take the Duchess along with us for a drink. I protested but he insisted. This is a fairly decent place, and quiet too, so we thought we'd be fine. We didn't count on the Duchess not having much experience with alcohol. I couldn't stand it and left before it got worse but I heard the story next day." "Isabelle can be a mean drunk if provoked," Hector whispered. "Can we please go in?" The two knights finish their drinks and then have a discussion about Hector's in-laws before moving on to the next inn, which Lindsey alludes has a story behind it. When they arrive, he tells it: apparently Hector and him once got Isabelle drunk and it was not pretty, something Hector is very mortified by.

Seamus didn't really know what Lindsey was up to, but he'd known from the planning stages that there must be some hidden reason why the knight was so insistent on making The Lonely Unicorn a stop on their itinerary. He was curious to find out what that reason was, though for the time being he just smiled indulgently as Lindsey acted mysterious. Though the bookkeeper was starting to feel decidedly warm, other than that he wasn't yet really noticing the alcohol he'd drunk. Lindsey, on the other hand, was starting to get giggly, always the first sign that the knight's brain was giving way to inebriation. Finally, they arrived at the inn, and from the look of horror on Hector's face, whatever joke Lindsey was playing on him was a potent one. Finally, after a bit more teasing, Lindsey explained why he'd brought them here, and the bookkeeper clucked his tongue in mock shame. "Yer a cruel man, Lindsey," he admonished, smirking. "I can only imagine she was nae happy with either of ye the next morning. Though hey, at least ye know tae keep her grace away from the wine at the wedding feast, eh Hector? Gotta look at the bright side of things- and since yer back at the place now, ye can make more positive memories of it. I'm fairly sure neither me nor Lindsey is going tae go angry drunk on ye, 'n Lady Isabelle is securely mewed up at the castle." The entered the building, and once they'd found seats Seamus gestured at Lindsey. "This is yer place, so ye get tae call the shots. What'll it be?" Glancing at Hector with a smirk, he added, "Maybe something strong, tae help this poor lad drown the sorrows of his last visit." Seamus joins in on the Hector teasing, then invites Lindsey to select what they'll be drinking for the next round.
