The younger Stallion brother sighed deeply. "I'm afraid he forgot to mention it to me, Lucinda, and I never asked. But I had always wondered," he shook his head. "I really should have known." Alain gave a soft laugh at both Ambrose and Lucinda's words, "Everett is not pleased to see me for other reasons, among those being is that his face is permanently soured. But yes," his smile shifted to mimic the wryness found in hers. "This does explan a lot about your family. However, I don't mind. I have enough of a sense of humour to counter their jabs and if they believe that my character when I am drunk is all there is to me, I would be glad to prove them wrong. He turned back to Morgaine to respond to her. "I am glad then that the man got his dues," Alain said quietly as he listened to the locksmith discuss the situation with the mage selling alcohol, sparing a sideways glance towards his brother. He could not help but notice the tensing in Ambrose's body, no doubt thinking about the effects of the alcohol. From what the Grand Duke had heard, Ambrose had escaped the direct consequences which could have come about had he drunk the laced juice but nevertheless, the thought of what could have happened no doubt still lingered at the mention of the story. Alain's hands tightened on his cane. Given what alcohol did to his brother, in particular with regards to his powers, it was no wonder. Even considering how long ago the one and only time Ambrose ever drank anything was, there was no doubt about it; had Ambrose had the juice, the story would have lost whatever funny edge it had for Alain very quickly. Ambrose, however, did not notice the look in his brother's eye and nodded in response to Morgaine's question "The legislation went through very quickly. Both the council of advisors and the Shadow Council were very keen to prevent something like that happening again. I was one of them," he swallowed. "I...I have a very poor tolerance for alcohol, because of..." here, he lifted up his hand and waved it in front of his eyes. "Normally, I don't even touch a drop and I dare not think what it would have done to me, had I drunk any. So I wanted to see to it that it went through." "Regardless of what happened, no terrible tragedy that was unfixable occurred and Medieville learned a valuable lesson," Alain smirked, the smirk only turning into a grin when Sieg mentioned his overindulgence. However, whatever comment the Grand Duke had, he kept it to himself. "It is best shared around, what is the point if only one person drinks it. I plan on having a little myself but not much. Sadly, Everett is not here but my family is so I have no intention of gracing Medieville with further tales." "Thank you," Ambrose gave a slightly exaggerated sigh of relief. "I'll open it and place it on the bar. If anybody wants any, they are welcome." "Please do," Alain nodded and turned to listen to Joffery and Sieg as they sang together. Ambrose, meanwhile, did as he had said he would do, placing the bottle carefully on the counter, making sure it was within sight. He returned to Alain's side and the two listened as the song progressed, finding himself smiling a little at it. When it had ended, the two Stallion brothers clapped for the two singers, by now both smiling. Ambrose blinked as he heard Jeniver's voice and turned around to face her. It has been a while. Last time he had seen her, it had been even before the Coronation. In fact he had asked her about House Jade and seering, back before he had known about his own magic. "It has been a while, yes. I have been well, Lady Jeniver, I hope you have been too," he replied, bowing his head. "Good, Lady Jeniver. I am glad you and Lucinda have remained friends, despite your separation," Alain smiled at her, folding his hands over his cane. As the song ended completely, he took a step forward, looking back at Ambrose. "I wonder, brother...in honour of Woomas, would you care to join me for a carol?" "I..." Ambrose blinked and stared up at him before glancing down intensely at the floor. "You are the one with the good singing voice. I'm...I'm not really one for such things." "It's unlikely that anybody else knows the song I have in mind, and besides, brother," Alain smiled widely and held out his hand. "I would appreciate your company. Please?" Ambrose hesitated. He did not want to stand in front of people, to sing, especially if he broke off in the middle of a vision and showed Alain up in front of everyone. But this was his brother who was inviting him up, and these were his friends that were around him. Surely they would understand, they would not mind, and Alain knew his limits, he knew what Ambrose could and could not do. He would not ask if he was incapable. "...what song are you thinking?" the younger Stallion brother asked quietly, taking Alain's hand. The smile on his older brother's face broadened and he took him out into the centre of the room, or at least as close to the centre as he knew Ambrose was comfortable. Internally, Ambrose could not help but smile. For a moment, it almost felt like they were small again and Alain was dragging him along on some misadventure. "I'll start if you're still hesitating. Then you can decide if you wish to join me," he replied and then turned to look at the crowd in the inn, smiling at their audience. "If I may..." he cleared his throat. Cold blows the wind frae east to west, The drift is driving sairly,Ambrose smiled widely. Alain was right, he knew this one. It definitely was a day to remember them being small. He also cleared this throat, just as Alain finished the second line, and opened his mouth. So loud and shrill I hear the blast I'm sure it's winter fairly!Alain grinned and the two brothers launched into the chorus with new vigour, Ambrose's softer voice mixing in with his deeper one. Up in the morning's not for me, Up in the morning early! When all the hills are covered with snow I'm sure it's winter fairly. They gave each other a glance before launching into the second verse. The birds sit chittering in the thorn, All day they fare but sparely; And long's the night frae even to morn I'm sure it's winter fairly. The chorus repeated and the song ended. Ambrose's shoulders sagged with relief. He had done it. And it was...fun. So much fun. "I'm glad you enjoyed that, brother," Alain remarked. Ambrose and Alain reply to Lucinda( Kristykimmy) regarding the drunken shenanigans, before Alain replies with less cheer to Morgaine( Shinko) and the shenanigans in Medieville. Ambrose tells her that the legislation passed, adding that he had a personal stake in it. Alain then changes the subject and mentions he would have a glass before listening to songs. Ambrose puts the whisky on the bar (where anybody can have some) and they listen to the song. After it, they talk to Jeniver( PFA) and Alain invites Ambrose to sing and after some hesitation, Ambrose agrees. Then Stallionbros do their rendition of this totally authentic Bernian folk song. ^^ (For anybody confused about the terms: Sairly- sorely Even- evening (Scots is fun. \o/))

As they finished singing, Sieg noticed that Leif was still lingering in the back of the room with Kirin. He turned to Joffery and jerked a thumb at the mage and the bookkeeper. "I'm going to go say hi to those two- and remind Leif that this is a party not a private date," he added with a mischievous smirk. Taking his leave from the Jade heir, Sieg walked through the tables until he reached Leif and Kirin. "Hello there, you two!" He said cheerily. "Couldn't help but notice you back here snogging. There are some rooms upstairs you can utilize if that's really how you want to spend the whole party, but I promise we'll make it worth your while if you join us." With a wink he said, "Regardless shouldn't our resident almost-but-not-quite priest be making sure we observe the Day of Carols properly? I want to see which of us knows more obscure, ancient hymns- you with your priestly training or me with centuries of elves who don't forget anything to draw on." Glancing at Kirin he added, "Of course if you want to do something more common and make a duet of it, I won't object." At that moment, Alain and Ambrose started to sing, temporarily distracting Sieg, he glanced around to watch the two, and clapped appreciatively when they'd finished before turning his attention back to Leif with a grin that indicated he had not forgotten his request despite the momentary diversion. Meanwhile, Morgaine was also listening intently while the two Stallions sang, smiling at Ambrose's obvious joy. She glanced at Lucinda and Jeniver with a wink, and in an undertone suggested, "Maybe you young ladies aught to make your relatives happy by joining them for a carol or two. Ambrose seemed to have fun with that, didn't he Lady Lucinda? And I know Lord Joffery loves singing." Leaving the girls to consider it, she waved and sauntered across the room, to do as her son was doing and mingle with more of their guests. Spotting Clare, Elin, and Laurie talking to each other near the bar, she approached them with a wide smile. "Hey there ladies, gentleman," she said. "Glad you could all make it. I was worried I might have to pry you off of Rosalie to get you to come, Lawrence- it's a shame she couldn't make it herself, but she enjoyed helping us get it together immensely." Turning to Clare and Elin, she grinned, "I know Elin's not interested, but Clare did you see what the Stallions brought along? Whiskey. Real Bernian whiskey- and if the nobles have anything to say about it, it'll be good quality stuff." Talk to ALL THE PEOPLE! Sieg leaves Joffery ( PFA) to go talk to Leif and Kirin ( Tiger and Killix). He tries to convince them to stop flirting alone in the back of the room and join the rest of the party. Meanwhile, Morgaine suggests that Jeniver and Lucinda ( Kristykimmy) might carol with their respective family members at some point. Leaving them to ponder the idea, she goes to say hi to Clare, Elin, and Lawrence. ( Gelquie and Liou)

Elin smiled as she and Laurie conversed about singing. “He really could have; that's an amazing voice he has there. Both him and Joffery; they sing well.” She laughed as she remembered something. “He actually came and sang to me while I was in jail. Not for very long, and other things happened too that weren't so great, but that was a little nice.” She turned to Laurie as he requested to sing with her. “Oh, I'm not much of a singer... I-I guess I could, if you really want to.” She let Laurie start the next verse quietly, and after a moment, Elin hummed along, equally quiet, also not wanting to interrupt the singers with her less trained voice. This went on for some time until the song finished, and Elin gave a smile to Laurie. Throughout the song, she had trouble hearing the exact timbre of his voice over the din of the crowd and the rest of the singing, but she enjoyed the collaboration all the same. Soon, Morgaine joined them, and Clare's eyes lit up at what the old woman said. She looked over to the Stallions in question before noticing the whiskey bottle on the bar. “Is that so? Can't say I've ever had whiskey. At least, not anything good... I wonder if they'll let me have a little bit. At least to see what it's like.” “I don't know if they would or not,” Elin said seriously. “But they've just left it there, so they probably aren't that protective about it. Besides, I think they can afford it, especially if it's just a taste.” Elin gave Clare a pointed look at the words 'a taste', silently pleading with her to not go too far. “...You know, I just might,” Clare said. “Thanks for pointing it out, Morgaine. Great job throwing the party, by the way. Should've guessed it was something like this.” Clare smirked at her before getting up and walking over to the whiskey. She examined the amber liquid inside before lifting the glass to her lips and taking a sip. As she set it back down, she contemplated the taste before giving an approving nod and smile. Elin smiled ruefully. “Guess you were right,” she said to Morgaine. “...I'll be honest, I didn't expect to see them here. Ambrose maybe, but I'm surprised to see some of the other nobles here.” Overdue post is overdue! Elin comments on Sieg and Joffery's singing abilities before humming along with Laurie ( Liou), if quietly, citing that she's not much of a singer herself. But she enjoys the quiet collaboration. Morgaine ( Shinko) approaches them and Clare decides to take up the offer of the whiskey, walking over and having a taste, which she approves of. Then she comments on how she's surprised to see how many nobles attended. If I messed up on something or I need to add more for people to respond to, do let me know. xD

Laurie was very comfortable during Joffery and Sieg's duet, singing with Elin and mingling with people, but without drawing any attention to himself. What a perfectly balanced situation. He smiled back at her and gave her a slight bow when they were finished. "That was nice, thank you for joining me!"
He was about to talk again when another set of voices started to sing, deeper and differently accented. He craned his neck for a better view of the singers, and his heart leapt when he spotted Ambrose having a moment with his brother. By now he knew what risks Ambrose took when drawing attention to himself, and he was glad to see how well it went.
He was wondering how to go about greeting everyone else when he saw the hostess heading their way.
"Thank you so much, Morgaine!" He gave her a little bow too. "Everything looks great! So Rosie really was in on the planning, is that why she was so intent on me coming, I'm sure she didn't want me to miss everything you'd worked for... You look marvelous in red, by the way, it gives your cheeks a warm glow."
He glanced around at the tables, also curious to see -if only from a distance- the famous Bernian drink that the intrepid Clare was going to test.
"Um, is there anything you might need help with?" he asked Morgaine. "As you're one party planner short... Oh, and do you have a whole list of songs prepared for the night?"
He nodded at Elin's comment on the nobles. "Yes, you've managed to gather quite a variety of guests, and they all seem to be enjoying themselves!"

"Thank you, Lawrence," Morgaine replied, giving a jovial curtsey in reply to the young man's compliment. "I have to give credit to Sieg for the ensemble though- clothes shopping and accessorizing are his guilty pleasures. He loves looking good and helping other people look good, he just doesn't usually get to indulge it since being a knight entails dressing practically." The old woman grinned broadly as Clare walked over to try the whiskey, though she hadn't missed Elin's admonishing look. Giving the younger girl a companionable clap on the shoulder Morgaine said, "Don't worry, your auntie is a big girl, she can handle herself. Worst case scenario if she overindulges, we have the archmage on hand to help her out in the morning- but I doubt it'll get that far, she's usully pretty responsible." When Lawrence asked if she needed any help, the woman waved a dismissive hand. "We should be fine, at this point things will go pretty free-form. Just enjoy yourselves and the company- and the singing, because yes, we have quite a few songs we've been rehearsing. It's the Day of Carols after all. And feel free to join in or take the floor whenever you like." With an impish grin, she added in an undertone, "Though I would like to see how many folks I can lure outside for a snowball war later- I don't know about you two but I think it would be fun." When both of her companions commented on the noble guests, Morgaine laughed outright. "I would be lying if I said that this is where I thought my life would go three years ago. I never had anything to do with nobles except on a professional basis before Starmey's funeral. Then Kirin and the Jades helped save my life, and Leif made friends with my son... and one thing led to another." Her smile turned crooked. "Although I only actually invited Ambrose, Kirin, Leif, and Xavier. The others appear to be plus-ones. Not that I mind, of course. The more the merrier, and I did say on the invites to bring along as many extra guests as desired." Morgaine makes small talk with Laurie and Elin ( Liou and Gelquie). At one point she drops the suggestion that they should totes start a snowball war later, if they can get enough people onboard.

Leif beamed at the expression of excitement on Kirin’s face as he saw the magic at work, and felt his face warm a little at Kirin’s compliment. “Well, it’s only fair you get some compensation for putting up with the grumpiest archmage in all the land,” he replied with a chuckle. “In all seriousness, though - I’m glad you like it. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.” The singing and the decorations distracted Leif enough to not notice the whiskey until Kirin pointed it out; following the bookkeeper’s gaze, Leif nodded in agreement and said wryly, “Hopefully everyone will still be a little on-guard, after the fun at the festival last spring. Although I’ve heard Bernian drink is stronger than Corvid or Medievillian tends to be, but I can’t imagine Lord Ambrose wouldn’t warn everyone of that.” He looked around the large room, noticing a few more familiar faces. “I suspect the Grand Duke and Lord Ambrose will be returning home with a good amount of it left for next Woomas, though, judging by how many people I think are going to refrain.” Movement caught Leif’s attention, and he saw Sieg coming toward their table. Leif leaned back in his chair as Sieg mock-scolded him and Kirin for lingering in the back of the room. “Yes, I know - Kirin already reminded me that we need to go be social - and then we promptly distracted each other with Woomas gifts. We’re not very good at this ‘party’ thing, are we, Kirin? “I needed to thaw, anyway.” Motioning to Kirin’s still-steaming drink, Leif added, “Even by Bernian standards, it’s cold enough for hot cider!” The Stallion lords’ singing briefly interrupted the conversation before Leif could reply to Sieg’s comments about hymns, but when they had finished and the half-elf turned back to Leif, the mage shrugged and replied, “I can do both, if the room doesn’t mind me singing more than once. I don’t want to leave you out if you want to sing,” he said to Kirin, before turning back to Sieg and continuing with a grin, “But I’m not about to let you win a challenge like that without any opposition. And - ‘Woo help you all - I am the closest thing this party has to a priest right now. ...I’m even dressed the part.” He flicked at the edge of his white cloak. “...Sort of. Almost-but-not-quite a priest.” I definitely wrote this spoiler yesterday. Yep. Mmhmm. Why would you even imply that it wasn't, wherever did you get that idea? Leif is <3 that Kirin ( Killix) likes his gift, and comments on the whiskey, before Sieg ( Shinko) comes over to interrupt what was no doubt going to become a hawt makeout session challenge Leif to a rap battle Woomas carol/hymn-off. Challenge accepted, Sieg, and he'll duet with Kirin if Kirin wants to sing, too! That's right, two Leif songs for the price of one, it's a Woomas miracle!

"Oh... I thought Sieg had a good eye for clothing, but didn't know it was to that extent." Laurie made a mental note of the knight's tastes, for further gifts. They might turn out more challenging, but more interesting. He leaned towards Elin. "Um... I'll let you handle the snowball fighting if you don't mind, I'm sure you'll do great. Just, if you do participate, beware of Morgaine!" He gave a cheeky little smile while the locksmith explained her popularity - it was a remarkable story no matter how many times he heard it. "I'll bet that all those extra guests will gravitate into your circle of noble acquaintances somehow, and you will accidentally become the merchant with the most political influence in Medieville." He glanced at the other side of the room again. "Well then, if there are songs waiting to be sung, I could... I shall try to arrange something with our singers. If you'll excuse me, ladies..." He nodded at them, but also to encourage himself, then stood up and started to make his way across the room. Sieg seemed to be busy for the moment; Laurie really wanted to greet and congratulate Ambrose, though. He leaned to peer at the Stallion from behind a group of people, only to see that the Grand Duke was still nearby. It wouldn't do to disturb the brothers while they were conversing; in fact, it would be preferable to leave the Grand Duke a lot of space for his comfort, wouldn't it. Laurie stopped and waited at a reasonable distance from the two Stallions. He immersed himself in contemplation of the lovely Woomas decorations of the inn - the ones directly in front of him, of course, not the ones hanging from the ceiling, why would there even be decorations on the ceiling, that would be silly. Laurie finishes chattering with Gelquie and Shinko - and seems comfortable with them, whaaat? And then he finally steps away and is a totally open target for Celestial x3

Elin glanced over as Morgaine clapped her shoulder. “...You're right. She usually is,” she said. “I know it's what she likes. And normally it's not so much of a problem. I'm just hoping not to have to handle it too soon. ...But maybe I'm still a little worried after what happened last spring." She smirked at the idea of a snowball fight before turning to Laurie. “I'll just have to fight twice as hard then,” she said. “It sounds fun to me. I'll take you on that later, Morgaine. As long as there's a fire still going later so we can warm our hands afterwards.” She gave and encouraging look to Laurie and waved as he went to approach some of the singers. Elin, meanwhile, turned back to Morgaine. “I know what you mean, sort of. I never thought I'd be as close to some nobles as I am... Never thought I could be,” she muttered to herself as an afterthought before she shook her head. “That whole series of events that summer must've helped with that for a lot of people. Sometimes it still feels odd. Anyway, you might well be able to get the other nobles around here to meet you... But we'll see. They'll probably be around for a while anyway.” Elin comments on Clare taking to the alcohol, accepts the offer of a snowball fight later with Morgaine ( Shinko), and rambles on about strange twists of fate leading to people becoming more involved with nobles.

Morgaine's expression was sympathetic when Elin brought up the fiasco from earlier in the year. "Believe me, I know where you're coming from. But half the reason that turned into the disaster it did was because no one knew what they were drinking was alcoholic, and they downed a lot of it very quickly. If you know what you're drinking you can moderate." The locksmith smirked as Lawrence teased Elin about getting involved in a snowball fight with her before walking off. She looked at the butcher's niece again. "My repuation proceeds me, it would seem. But of course, a snow war isn't nearly the fun without a warm fire waiting for you after. We'll dry our clothes and warm our hands on some of Ilsa's cider- which should make her happy since it means more money to line her pockets." Morgaine chortled. "Greedy woman is not above charging her friends on Woomas." The old woman shook her head, her expression bemused. "I've no interest in politics, Elin. I'm not out to make friends with nobles just because they're here and I could. The ones I have befriended, I did because of genuine compatibility of personality. If the others turn out to be good friendship material, I certainly won't turn them away- but I'm not going to actually try for... how did Lawrence put it? The merchant with the most political influence in all of Medieville." Cupping her hands around her mouth, she called out to Clare, "Save some for everyone else, dear!" * * * * * Kirin was equally bemused when Sieg arrived to mock-scold him and Leif for hiding in the back of the room. At Leif's comment, he shook his head. "I suppose duty was bound to call eventually, though I had rather hoped to evade it a little longer. Ah well, wouldn't want to waste all of Mrs. Braham's effort by doing the same thing we'd be doing if we were back at one of the manors." "Hey, I helped organize things too," Sieg pointed out with a laugh. "But yes, Mama would be very disappointed if you didn't at least come out and say hi Lord Kirin. She might be forced to give you a very, very sad expression, and from what I understand you have a critical weakness to such things- apparently that's how you and Ambrose came by your dog?" "Well she was cute," Kirin pointed out with a lopsided smile. "I couldn't just leave her there." At Leif and Sieg's suggestion that the archmage and Kirin sing a duet, the Stallion flushed, his green eyes going wide. "Ah... um... I'm good, thanks. You two can have fun, I'll just listen." He took another sip of his cider, using the mug as a sort of shield to hide his face. "Suit yourself, I suppose," Sieg replied. "But no one's going to judge; I mean Ambrose and Alain sang, and that's quite a bit more of a spectacle than I think any of the rest of us can match." Kirin lowered the cup, still looking thorougly embarassed, but he managed a fond smile in Leif's direction. "Maybe later. We'll see." Sieg shrugged, and turned his attention back to Leif. "Looks like it's just you and me for now. Would you like to start us off or do you need my help to break the ice for you?" Morgaine talks about nobles and alcohol with Elin and teases Clare for still not coming back from sampling the whiskey ( Gelquie). Meanwhile, Sieg and Kirin ( Killix) make small talk with Leif ( Tiger) about Woomas Carols and the fact that antisocial Kireifs are bad at the concept of "party."

There was a small smattering of applause from around the room before everyone returned to their conversations but even that sound made Ambrose beam widely. They had liked it, they had liked their singing. It would not have surprised him had Alain sung on his own, his brother had both the voice and the confidence to wow a room, but they had done this together. It was for both of them. "Thank you, Alain," he smiled up at his brother. "For dragging me out to do this. I did not think I would enjoy that as much as I did." "Me too, little brother," the Grand Duke smirked back at him. "And I am glad that you have not forgotten the songs of your homeland even though you live in Medieville now." "I could never forget. I spent the majority of my life in Bern, even if it was...you know," Ambrose shrugged. "I am teasing you, little brother. But I know," Alain patted him on the shoulder. "But you have good memories of it at least? Even a few?" "I do. And I thank you for them," Ambrose smiled at him and then glanced over at the bar just as Clare took a drink of the whisky. His smile grew wider. "I think our gift is being appreciated." Alain laughed. "Hopefully not too much. I would have hoped that Ms. Wright would at least supply goblets for everyone who wanted to try some." "There should still be plenty left. We did bring enough," Ambrose nodded and looked around the crowd. "Even if some people probably will not be drinking." "It cannot be helped. I'm sure we can take back whatever is left," Alain replied. Ambrose continued to scan the people gathered around. They had gathered into their groups, some smaller and some larger, and the Stallion was not sure if he wished to break them up. However, one person did catch his eye: Jeniver Jade. He had spoken to her very briefly, back during the Coronation, about of all things his powers, or at least before they knew what they were. But since then, both Alain and Lucinda had told him something extraordinary: Jeniver too, had the abilities of a seer. Not like his, obviously, but nevertheless, the idea of anybody sharing a similar power to him had been a revalation for Ambrose. Ever since then, he had wanted to talk to her. Now that she was in Medieville instead of Solis, this was his chance. "Brother...will you excuse me?" Ambrose said to Alain and, after a nod of confirmation from him, proceeded towards where Lucinda and Jeniver were. He gave the Jade girl a polite bow of his head before smiling at her. "Lady Jeniver, hello. It has...been a long time. I hope you are enjoying yourself," he blinked, trying to find the words he wanted to say. It seemed rude to launch into the conversation right away, especially since he was going on hearsay but..."If I may ask...you have the powers of a seer, correct?" Alain, meanwhile, watched his brother as he walked over to Jeniver and then gave a smile of understanding. He turned on his heel and as he did, he caught sight of Laurie Kidde, looking expectant. Of course, he was a friend of Ambrose's and had most likely wanted to speak to him. But it seemed fate had other ideas. The Grand Duke walked over to Lawrence and gave him a smile, folding his hands over his cane. It had been a while since they had last seen each other, and that one time had been in less than favourable circumstances. "I apologise, Master Kidde, were you hoping to speak to my brother? I have lionised much of his attention, unfortunately," he gave off a soft laugh, acting as though that time in the jail cell had never happened. But a small glimpse of green and white above their heads gave Alain pause. He glanced up and grinned. "You might wish to take a look," he pointed up with his cane at the mistletoe hanging above them. "Though a kiss on the hand again is all you will be getting from me, Master Kidde. I am a married man, I would rather not give anything more." The two Stallionbros banter amongst themselves a bit, because they love to talk, before Ambrose decides to go over to Jeniver( PFA) and ask her about her seer powers. Alain, meanwhile, notices Laurie( Liou) being neglected by Ambrose and goes to say sorry to him before noticing the mistletoe above them and teasing Laurie for it.

Distracted by the decorations and by the bustling activity all around, Laurie had let his mind wander far enough that he didn't notice when Ambrose moved away. When he spotted a towering silhouette from the corner of his eye, it was too late, and he was trapped within the Grand Duke's paralysing gaze. Laurie suspected that Alain would be capable of hunting small animals simply by making them faint with his stare. His knees gave a slight twitch and he bowed, putting on a polite smile. "Your Grace - I wish you a pleasant Woomas. I didn't mean to intrude, I'm very sorry if it seemed that way." Bumping into each other wasn't so bad, as they were both guests, after all. Hearing Alain use his name made his stomach knot a little tighter, but then again, it was only natural for the Grand Duke to have outstanding memory. Now all Laurie needed was a polite way to make a tactical retreat. He was about to come up with a brilliant excuse when Alain pointed at something above, something even higher than his own head. Laurie's eyes followed the cane. It took him a few seconds to process what he was seeing. A cold shudder ran down his spine as if it had trickled from the mistletoe. Laurie nearly bit his lip in despair, but stopped the reflex on time, worried that it might be interpreted the wrong way. His mouth felt dry when he swallowed. "Oh, if you do not wish to..." His cheeks burned as dim memories of that terrible day in jail returned, but he chased them away and kept his smile frozen in place. Unable to meet Alain's eyes, he focused on a point two inches above the Grand Duke's shoulder instead. "Any way Your Grace wishes to observe tradition is all right." Laurie is less scared of Alain now but still pretty scared. Please don't not eat him Celestial

"Maybe you young ladies aught to make your relatives happy by joining them for a carol or two," Morgaine suggested. "Ambrose seemed to have fun with that, didn't he Lady Lucinda? And I know Lord Joffery loves singing.""Oh, um..." Jeniver blinked, glancing toward her cousin. Joffery, having finished his song a while ago, was watching the other carolers and applauding heartily. An amused smile crossed Jeniver's face. "Well, I'm not as good a singer as Joffery, but I guess he doesn't care." While she was pondering what song she might like to sing, and who to possibly sing it with—Joffery, of course, would be thrilled, but maybe she could sing with Lucinda or someone else?—another voice distracted her, and she turned to see who it was. It was Ambrose, she believed his name was, Lucinda's... great uncle, was it? "Lady Jeniver, hello. It has...been a long time. I hope you are enjoying yourself," he said. He paused briefly, as if pondering what to say, before continuing. "If I may ask...you have the powers of a seer, correct?""Um..." Jeniver frowned, not sure how to answer the question. The last time she was in Medieville, her parents had instructed her not to tell anyone about her seer abilities, in case someone wanted to use it against her. But this time, she was among friends, and her parents weren't here anyway... after some careful consideration, she nodded. "I am, yeah. Why?" Jeniver tells Morgaine ( Shinko) sure, maybe she'll sing a carol at some point. And then she confirms to Ambrose ( Celestial) that she is in fact a seer. Let the seer talk commence! \ o /

At Morgaine's shouts, Clare abruptly stopped as she was going for another sip. She let out a laugh before setting down the bottle, waving at Morgaine. “Don't worry, Morgaine, I will!” Clare then turned as Ilsa came by and gave her the drink she ordered earlier. As Clare exchanged some small talk with Ilsa, Elin turned back to Morgaine. “She definitely isn't. But charging her friends is one way to keep from overindulging, at least.” She sighed. “I guess you're right about Clare. She goes at a decent pace, at least, even if I still have to take care of her at the end of the night. She doesn't go at the pace I went with the 'juice'.” She put her hand to her forehead, letting out a small laugh. “Drank it way too fast. If I'd known it was alcoholic... Well, if I'd known, I wouldn't have drunk it.” She shook her head before turning to the crowd momentarily, watching the various nobles shooting the breeze with other Medievillians. “...That's probably best. I guess you probably make better friendships that way. ...I have to learn more about or talk to nobles because of my job, and so I know what they're doing... But that doesn't make them my friends. Even the ones I am friends with took a long time to get to that point. Not that I was really trying.” By this point, Clare had returned, a mug in her hand. “Morgaine, you weren't kidding about that whiskey's quality. That was amazing.” She let out a small laugh before sitting down at the table again. “I'd have more of it if it were my own. But I can share. Besides, I got some of Ilsa's cider now. It's really good, by the way. You should have some when you get the chance. ...Actually, do you want a taste, either of you?” Elin frowned in contemplation. “I don't know yet. ...Morgaine?” Clare stops drinking the whiskey at the request to save some for later, then gets a drink from Ilsa. Getting your party started, eh Clare? Elin talks with Morgaine ( Shinko) about pacing one's drink and how she very much didn't last spring, then talks about making friends with nobles, or rather, how she doesn't. Clare then returns and gloats about the alcohol before offering a taste of the cider to Morgaine and Elin. Elin can't decide whether to try it or not, leaving Morgaine the chance to try it first. (C'mon Elin, one sip's not going to hurt anything. Push your bad memories of super-powered alcohol aside.)

Ambrose smiled at Jeniver when she replied to his question with the affirmative. He had been afraid that she would rebuff him or deny it, since he was for all intents a purposes a stranger asking about it, and a Stallion too. But the girl seemed relaxed enough and she was friends with Lucinda, after all, so perhaps his fears were unfounded. It certainly seemed that way. "I...I was just wondering..." he trailed off. Certainly he had wanted to meet another person with similar powers to his but they were hardly the same. For one thing, his ability came from a completely unique source. And Jeniver seemed to have full mastery over her seer powers, certainly enough for it not to impact her life. The Stallion took a deep breath and met the girl's gaze. "If you don't mind me asking, how do your powers work? Do you...do you see and hear things in the present, or the future, or both?" he realised how this was sounding and glanced away, down at the floor. "I realise I'm asking you all these questions but...I...I'm curious to meet somebody who also has abilities like...like mine." Alain meanwhile, had to admit he was taking far more enjoyment out of Laurie's discomfort than was necessary, or indeed decent. The young man was clearly terrified of him, far more than he should have been, but the memories of the Coronation were no doubt still fresh, and though the Grand Duke currently had no opinions about Laurie, the young man had not been so keen to let go of the past. For a moment, he wondered if he should let Laurie go. Certainly he was reluctant and Alain had no wish one way or another to kiss him. But it would have been rather fun, perhaps, to see him get just a touch flustered. "I'll be gentle, I promise," the Grand Duke murmured, a sly smile spreading across his face. "I may be a Stallion but I can enjoy a tradition." He drew his left hand away from his cane and placed his gloved fingertips beneath Laurie's palm, loosely holding the young man's hand up while at the same time bowing his head down to place a tiny, polite kiss just beyond Laurie's knuckles. As soon as that was done, he lowered Laurie's hand down to the young man's side and smiled down at him, his his hand returning to its place around his cane. "You are free to go now," Alain said neutrally but his icy blue eyes twinkled with amusement. "Don't let me keep you any longer, Master Kidde." Ambrose continues seer-talk with Jeniver( PFA) asking her how her powers work, while Alain is a terrible man and plays with Laurie( Liou) by giving him another handkiss.

Laurie let himself be manipulated like a ragdoll, gazing blankly at the Grand Duke's general direction while waiting for it to be over. All he felt was a jolt when their skins came into contact, causing his usual blush to spread down his cheeks and neck. It was only after Alain dismissed him that the numb haze cleared from his head. Even Laurie could recognise the Stallion's playful attitude, and so he finally realised that Alain had just been toying with him. A brief laugh of relief escaped him, and he ran his unkissed hand over the back of his neck - the other hand still hung limply where Alain had left it. "Thank you, Your Grace," he mumbled. Thank you for letting me get away with only that. "I hope you enjoy the rest of the party." He backed away slowly, keeping his head low, glancing behind him so as not to bump into anyone. There were still people he needed to greet... he'd lost track by now. Everyone seemed to be having fun - with so much singing, and noise. His heart was still beating fast. They weren't going anywhere. It would be wiser for him to take a break. He made his way to a more isolated corner, near the stairs that led to the inn's bedrooms, and looked for a seat. Someone was already there, though, someone he immediately recognised and bowed to. "Your Highness - I'm sorry, didn't mean to intrude," he whispered to Princess Hope, now Lady Jade. He was whispering so as not to wake up the baby she was cradling. He hoped that she hadn't seen his face. She might not even recognise him, but he couldn't be too cautious. Laurie escapes mostly unscathed from Alain and Celestial, flees, then runs into Hope! (How exciting, Lizzie!)
