YoytiI don't think it sounds like you hate the movie.... You're just discussing how they could have done it differently. Even if I like a movie based on a book, play, etc, I still want to talk about the differences (and sometimes it ends up sounding like complaining). ;P

I dunno, my friends who'd never seen the Broadway version didn't really care for the movie, but I liked it a lot. I was kind of surprised how good it turned out, because I was kind of expecting a big mess. They didn't like any of the songs. D: Which is like, so sad for me, because I love all those songs. I guess they just don't care for Sondheim. The one part I -really- didn't like was Johnny Depp's. When I saw his costume, I felt he occupied an uncomfortable spot between human and wolf, and just looked utterly ridiculous, which was totally confirmed watching it. They should've gone more human or more wolf, because that song with that look was just all sorts of off. (Not to mention, it's WAY weirder at the last part of the Wolf's story.) But Agony was the best thing ever, which makes me so happy because it's my favorite of the songs. X3 I never heard of it before and I didn't watch any trailers, so it was like walking into it blind folded. I absolutely loved it, though! You're right, the songs are just splendid - I've been humming them for days now, no one can stand me near them anymore because I just start singing about woods made of trees and trees made of wood and INTO THE WOODS, THE WOODS *SLAPS SELF* Agony was indeed the best thing ever. I fell in love with Billy Magnussen after that because, well - look at him! Dorkiest prince ever! When he climbs that root and makes that ridiculous face, singing Rapunzel's "AAAAaaAAAAh"...just, come on. Adorably bizarre. I like adorably bizarre, really do. And when Chris Pine tears his shirt off, and then Magnussen looks like "wait what? I can do that, too" *tears shirt*. It's just so hilarious. I'm very familiar with sibling relationships and this feels so sincere. It's exaggerated for comic effect, but there is competition between siblings and that was a sweet and suddle way of going at it (is that in the play, too? I don't know. XD Never seen it, but I will.) I liked how his and Rapunzel's story turned out. I've read the original when I was like 7 or 6 and that moment where he falls into the thorns and goes blind really stuck with me. For a kid was constantly fed with sugary stories, that was a big (but good) shock. I remember my joy when I found out he and Rapunzel meet again. Her singing guided him to her and they were finally together! <3 that miraculous tear wasn't necessary, but it was nice to have him see her again. I love how the movie stuck with it and -tadaah- riding on horseback into happiness ending made my day. I like sad endings, but this is one of my favorite fairy tales and I didn't want any death by giant feet spoiling it. I loooved the little Red Riding Hood. Adored her, her voice was great and her personality is just so peppy. I cracked up at the wolf skin hood and her new pcoket knife. I mean, really - that's the best solution if you don't want little girls to be attacked by wolves, teach them to defend themselves! Duh! I've been shouting this in my head since childhood! XD Which brings us to Johnny Depp. Indeed, what was that, guys? The least interesting character in the movie and he's a darn wolf. You gotta go low to make a wolf dull. I don't blame it on his performance but on his looks. I didn't see a wolf in him at all. I just saw Willy Wonka in need of a manicure.

I would like to point out that Little Red refers to the wolf as Mister Wolf at least twice. (Can't exactly remember in the movie, but on the OBC cast album she says "Good day, Mister Wolf" at the beginning of the song, and "Goodbye Mister Wolf" at the end.) Is it possible, then, that maybe he's not supposed to be a wolf, but a Wolf? Like, that's his name. He's just a creepy human guy who's name happens to be Mister Wolf.

I liked the movie for the most part, however, I thought this was book by Tana French so basically I at first did not expect singing or fairy tales (note I did not watch any trailers. I heard about this movie by word of mouth). With that said, I really liked the movie. Chris Pine not only surprised me but also made me laugh and I've always enjoyed Anna Kendrick's voice. This was also the first time I saw Meryl Shreep so that was pretty awesome.

Well, him being a regular human with whom Red is familiar, makes way less sense when he eats her whole, is cut into by the Baker, and then turned into a cloak by Granny.
