"Alain knows about it, and I suspect he knows a lot more than he tells me," Ambrose murmured. No, he did not just suspect, by this point he was certain of it. It just completely escaped him why Alain would not tell him something so important. But his brother had his reasons, he was sure of it. There was no use questioning them, not when he would get his answers soon. He had waited long enough, he could wait a little bit more. "I know my magic is strange and to make it stranger, there is nobody I have ever heard of, Stallion or otherwise, who has what I have. That's why they label it as madness, because what else could it be? A Stallion with magic, let alone unexplained, random, uncontrollable magic...it's just easier to assume he's mad."
He stared up at Briar as she began talking about him knowing about the Coronation, and about her escape, but he could only stare for so long before he felt tears prickling in his eyes. Ambrose huddled one arm around himself and covered his eyes with his free hand.
"No, my visions have no such use. I cannot control when they happen or what I see. They sometimes provide me with information I can use, or let me know about such things as King Starmey's death or the famine in Kine, but that's just pure chance. I couldn't have done anything...but I wish I had known. Then I could have warned people. I could have stopped the massacre. I could have told the Shadows what was going to happen so that they would not have had to rush in so meaninglessly." his voice shook, along with his shoulders, "The future is so vast, Briar, unimaginably so. I've spent a good portion of my life seeing it and even then, I know I've only seen a tiny fraction of it."
Ambrose sighed deeply and shook his head. "No, I'm sorry I couldn't do anything to help you, or the other Shadows. But my powers don't stretch that far. There's my inventions but...most aren't practical, I just do them so I can cope with what I see. Really, my powers mostly serve to brand me as a madman," he pinched the bridge of his nose, "And even if I had forseen it in my many, many visions...what good would it have done? I have very little power or influence. Who would believe me? Certainly not the Shadows. Why would they believe a mad old noble who came to them saying they would fail? I would not, if I were them."

Sorry, Briar, just because he can see the future doesn't mean he sees the right future.
