Small gloat, but that's what this thread is for, right?
I reached the second page of my forum journal, and it's now officially autumn, and I did well on my summer projects.

Well, they may have waited until the FINAL day of the season to do it, but the St. Louis Cardinals are NL Central Division Champs! But one of these years, I would really prefer that they would end the suspense a bit earlier and actually clench it early. Not that I'm complaining about this year. lol

I used to be afraid of baking with yeast. Now I love it. It's so much fun and makes for tasty, elastic baked goods.

Thanks to networking, I've gotten a freelance job at a local small business redesigning their website!
(The "networking" in question my mom talking to her new boss, saying that I went to school for web design when he mentioned he wanted a new website for the company. But hey, I'm getting paid, so it still counts.)

Boyfriend waited in line with me for three hours LIKE A CHAMP to go into a Harry Potter convention. He's not a huge fan like me, but he is super supportive and he really shows me that he cares about the things I'm excited about. 💖 The actual con turned out not to be quite as cool as I imagined it, but I still had a good time, and I'm glad to have gone! At least we had plenty of time together today! I'm so grateful for him. 🥰 He deserves a gold star! 🌟
(I also finally bought a really nice Hufflepuff scarf! =D)

My girlfriend was accepted into her nursing program!
Obviously she's incredibly smart, but it did admittedly come as a surprise to her, since (she herself admitted that) her grades weren't as high as others who were more likely to get in — something which she had explained in her letter of appeal was the result of depression following her grandmother's passing three years prior. After such a tragedy and years of hard work in college, it's just amazingly well-deserved for her.

And Wayward Son will be arriving in a few days too...many nice books!

I've been ranting a lot so I want to balance that a bit:
- Trip to Ukraine was nice. I got to walk around my hometown and appreciate it as an adult. It is changing a lot and for the better. The new parks are gorgeous and there are actually tourists! I still don't want to live in Ukraine because of a bunch of social issues that make it an unwelcome place for someone like me (and the climate is Ew) but it makes me happy nonetheless. - I got 25 new brush pens for my birthday. - My backpack is stuffed with sweet stuff from my childhood. It will keep me going for months. - Despite how insanely busy it is keeping me and some frustrations with projects and group work, I am really enjoying my Masters. - Impulse trip to visit the Pokémon centre in London with Thundy in two weeks!! And EuroAtlantis session on the same day!

Birdwatching haul for today - all in a plain urban park: rock- and woodpigeons, sparrows, blackbirds, magpies, starlings who let me hear sound mimicry first hand by mimicking the squeaky sounds of the kids' playground rope bridge thing right across the path, blue tits and great tits very busy feasting on black locust tree seeds, a robin mafia following me all around to scream warnings at me, a lone wagtail in the middle of the pond, a few ducks napping on the bank, a large playground of lizards happily hopping from sunny rock to sunny rock (they're honorary birds okay), a family of cormorants taking a field trip for flight school, aaand the celebrity guest star: a hecking kingfisher.

I stepped up and chaired this term's research seminar for my department.
The seminar's supervising professor called me the "best chair ever" and I'm on a general charisma high.

Sometimes paid work involves a morning of pleasant chatter while decorating a flip-chart with a holiday message, casually helping yourself to a large stack of quality markers to highlight the letters in several hues, being encouraged to take the time to carefully cut out Frozen characters and Jack Skellington's outlines to paste them on, throwing shiny stickers and glitter at the chart while your gleeful coworker texts a picture to your manager, and topping the whole thing with a fluffy garland tied into a bow.

I found a resource full of images of smoking advertisements I can use for our museum publication. Best part, as long as we give credit, it is entirely free. I no longer have to just raid Wikimedia Commons.
Is this what it feels like to strike gold?
