Yesterday my mother brought home a photo album from the 50s that had pictures of her as a baby as well as our cousins place in Denmark. I noticed that the cycling shop in one of the photos had a name and Googled it. Not only is it still around, but it looks like it's been in the family for a few generations. After contacting the guy yesterday evening, he responded to my email this morning and said that yes, he is indeed family and that he'd love to reconnect. I'm so happy!

It's Space Week on the NatGeo channel, and this self-proclaimed NASA geek may or may not be nearly giddy watching each nightly special.

Okay I need to brag a second, y'all should bring me along on your thrift store trips because I find the coolest stuff. Like I got some boss antique silver pieces and a fancy high-end printer and I spent like maybe $20 on it altogether because I'm magic like that =D

Special thanks to my neighbours' chickens for making cute sleepy chicken noises in the morning, it's very nice to wake up to gentle clucking.

Went up the hill, saw a bunch of skylarks, meadow pipits and even a yellowhammer there. Also saw lots of lovely butterflies, crickets and bees.
Came back home. Turns out a bunny has taken residence on our lawn. And also had a sparrowhawk go for the sparrows on our bird feeder (didn't get any but).
It was a good wildlife day.

I'm finally home, we have air conditioning, I slept for a long time today, I called almost all the people I needed to catch-up call, I'm hopefully getting over that nasty bug that half my family came down with over the trip, and also I have managed to acquire this nerdy t-shirt of my favorite fictional idiots: Hoorayyy~ :D

Okay. Time for one of my annual mini-gloats... The children's musical at church is done for the year, and these 55+ kids did an AMAZING job!! I particularly want to brag on of one of the pastor's sons. The older of his two sons had a main part this year. Last year he didn't even try out for a part (they can be in the general "choir" without auditioning, and we give everyone something, even if it's just holding a sign during a song) and his mom told us "he wants to do something, but he does NOT want to say anything on stage." This year, he was Moses and even sang a solo. I'm so stinkin' proud of him!

Got TWO free books at the library book fair, instead of one. Our local library district hosts a huge used book fair every year. Like... Takes up an arena floor huge. I did the summer reading program for adults, and got a coupon for one free book, up to $3. I go up to pay and....
Cashier: Have a nice day! Me: Uh... Cashier: The coupon is for $3. Me: But I thought it was only for one book... Cashier: *puts her finger to her lips* Have a nice day! Me: Oh! Okay... Thank you!

This past week has been really good for finding butterflies in my yard. I've seen a monarch, viceroy, American lady, black swallowtail, cabbage white, and at least three silver-spotted skippers. And as a bonus: a hummingbird moth.

I found out that I had gotten a Neomail from somebody asking for advice on Caves and Corridors during the Daily Dare event, which is pretty flattering of them to do that!

Following months of creative burnout, I...am actually satisfied with the progress on my résumé so far for once. Huh.
