Hey guys! This has been kind of quietly collecting dust for a while, so Torkie and I decided it was high time to officially call it. XD; It might have gone better had schedules been kinder to us, but alas. Thanks to everyone who participated, and here's to more exciting RPs in the future! (More with audiences, mayhaps? Only time will tell. :B)
Of course, we decided we couldn't just leave everyone hanging, so here's a quick recap of the trial we missed:
{Outside the Courthouse
After the trial}
*steps outside, taking a breath of fresh air*
(It's so nice for it all to be over...) *Relaxes also* Well. I hope never to have to attend another trial that intense for several decades at the very least.
Tell me about it.
*slight reassuring smile* At least it's over, right?
...Indeed. I can never thank you enough.
Both of you.
*Puts a hand on Edgeworth's shoulder* I am glad to have been of some assistance. You can thank me by letting it go and moving on…
(And by being extra thorough in finding the truth should I end up in such a position, myself…) I know that won't be easy, but it would be the best thing to do, given that it was set up to be a source of bitterness.
... *sighs, looking away* I... suppose it was, yes...
Hey... he's right. The best thing to do is to move on.
... I am... grateful that you were there for me this time, Father.
*smiles* Of course.
*Faint smile* It'll turn out alright. Try not to worry about it. No one around here is blind enough to hold it against you, given the track record of the true culprit.
*winces slightly at that, as if at some memory*
...Thank you, Piers. I appreciate that.
…Something wrong?
...I'm sorry. It's just... this case was really terrible. It may take me a while to relax...
*frowns*
(That's not all, though, is it...) ...
(No, it's not. So many painful memories...) ...Hey... it will be fine, alright?
I'm sure everyone will understand if you take some time off. Don't overwork yourself.
I suppose I may have to... some time to let it all sink in.
Would you like to go get something to eat?
...Alright. ...
*slight chuckle* If Wright and Ms. Fey were here, I'm sure she would suggest hamburgers.
*smiles* Looks like you're feeling a little better already.
I'll... get over it. Where would you suggest we go?
Well, I—…oh, hmm… you know, I've only been to one restaurant in town, but I hear there's a cafeteria as well…?
That might be best, I suppose.
"Um... excuse me." ? *glances back*
*Glances behind him*
*standing in the doorway, looking kind of conflicted* ...
...Prosecutor Gavin?
I, er... *a pause*
...Congratulations.
*Analytical look*
Not very good at that sort of thing, are you, Gavin? How very like your family. !
(Oh @#$%.) !
!!
Wh-what...?!
*Howling laughter*
Ah, that was priceless! You really should have seen the look on your face, you looked so much like he did when he listened, kekeke… G-go away! Leave us alone!
Just how far were you willing to go for this case, Prosecutor Gavin? ...!
Too bad I didn't get to find out, that would have been interesting. Even so, I imagine your brother will have some very interesting comments to make to the four of you when he wakes up.
IF he wakes up. *staggers back* {Please... I didn't... no...}
*Seems to be directed at the Edgeworths* And YOU. !
*narrows eyes*
A bit easy to hate the man on the other side, isn't it? ...
Oh, how terrible the prosecution is, how much he wants a verdict that isn't right! *winces* No...
A bit different from the defendant's seat, isn't it, Prosecutor Edgeworth? *steps back, clutching at his heart*
No...
Poor poor Gavin. Branded as cruel because he thought he had lost the LAST of his family. *looks miserable*
*Flatly* …Are you done yet?
I'm not all that impressed.
Of course you wouldn't be. But then again, you've lived a long time. You've seen a lot and done a lot.
…As that human blood that showed up on your sword can say. *Narrows his eyes, his aura rising dangerously*
Go get Judged.Heh. That'll be the day, won't it. You first, Captain.*The presence fades*
*aura rises slightly in anger as he leaves* ...
...Hasn't he caused us enough pain already...?
It's never enough. Not for him.
*Aura dulls, but looks cross*
That would be the correct assessment. As I proved in my last case, he profits whenever close friends turn against one another, especially if death is involved.
*fingers cravat absently* Indeed...
Hmph.
*glances at Klavier, aura lowering again with a frown* ...Mr. Gavin?
*just staring off into space, crying* ...He... he
begged me not to listen...
…?
…Prosecutor Gavin, are… are you alright?
*holds head in hands* N-nein... I am
so sorry. Please... I'm sorry...
...
...
…
… *Closes his eyes and sighs*
... *steps forward* Hey... it's alright.
Nein... it's not. I could have gone through with it... and K-Kristoph...
… "and Kristoph" what?
...What... if he won't be alright? And even if he is, he'll be upset... I failed him...
*Adjusts his headband* If there's one thing I know about your brother… it's that he's tenacious.
He's endured much already, both physical and psychological. …He made a promise to you, didn't he? You said he couldn't leave, if I remember the records correctly.
...
He won't leave you. He'll probably return a little broken than before, and it may take months for him to recover from all that's happened. He's only just been released to freedom after years in confinement of one kind or another… you'll have to give him time.
And you didn't fail him. You were misguided, yes, but you did the best you could.
*Looks at him seriously* I think you have a better idea now of how hard it is to resist such voices.
...I... I thought I wouldn't listen... I thought I could resist, but... I didn't... and I did...
You haven't failed, Mr. Gavin. Don't think that.
But... he told me not to listen. He'll be upset...
Maybe he will, but... he's your brother.
If he cares about you, he'll understand.
...
The best thing you can do now is learn from the experience and let it go. I'm sure Kristoph will be happy just to see you again.
*closes eyes* ...
...Please... don't blame yourself.
...?
Everyone makes mistakes. Blaming yourself will... will only make it hurt more. I know it's hard, but... you have to learn to move on.
...
*silence for a while*
...Th-thank you...
You should rest, too. There's a reason that the conflict of interest clause is in place in your country. Cases like these are extremely exhausting. You should eat and rest, and visit your brother when you're pulled together.
You're right... thank you.
We really are sorry about what happened to him…. Let him know I wish him well when he wakes up.
Thank you... I... r-right now I'm mostly just glad it's not your fault.
Aren't we all.
We mean it, though. Things will be alright... okay?
...Okay. Danke.
*Nods and turns to Edgeworth again* Alright then. I think that's all we can say for now. Let's go eat.
Yes, that sounds excellent right now.
*turns to Klavier* Do... you want to come with us, or...?
*wipes a tear from his cheek* Do... you want me to?
Well, better than you trying to raid Agent Lang's sake store and brooding at home…
(That reminds me, I should probably check on him once I get back…) *weak chuckle* ...I suppose you're right...
*encouraging smile* Of course we want you to come. Best put it all behind us, right?
...Ja. Thank you, really.
*Looks over at Edgeworth, amused* If I remember correctly, Phoenix always ended up paying the bills for these sorts of things…
*small laugh, also amused* I think it would be a bit rude to find him and ask him to pay for this one.
Well, I hope we're not going to the next defense attorney. I haven't carried any money in seventeen years.
*Laughs* I was joking, Miles, but I knew you would find that amusing.
I'll pay. Let's go. *Walks off*
Haha. *follows*
*also, though pauses to wait for Klavier*
*sighs, calming self down* ...
*follows*
