Something I never knew: Iceland has an openly-gay Prime Minister. I honestly didn't think there'd be a gay government leader for a good few years yet, but it was last year! D: *OUT OF THE LOOP* She was one of the very first people in her country to get a same-sex marriage when they were legalized :3 It made me happy to know <3 She's female, too, which also doesn't happen every day. Butyeah, this is another reason that I absolutely adore Iceland. ^_^ *happysquee* For anyone looking - her name is Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir.

Wow. There are far more LGBT NTWFers than I had previously thought. XD

Doublepost! Prop 8 overturned by federal judge! For non-USAns this might be obscure? Iunno? It was all over my internet, though. Anyway, news article explains it I think. Yay yay yay! When I was in California in July, I went to Anime Expo (July 4th weekend) like I always do. What was interesting was that one of the days there were a group of people trying to get petitions and money to help over turn that prop They also knew what they were doing, because they dressed in anime and game shirts (and I believe two or three cosplays). Oh, and I have a cousin who just came out during our family reunion back in May. Most of the family seemed shocked. Her dad and brother were angry. Me and my parents were laughing, because we knew ahead of time from our own guessing XD She left the country for a while, returned in secret. When she showed up around the family again, it was me and my parents she came to first, and visited a number of times with her, now open, girlfriend. Oh, and I live what is slowly turning into the gay neighborhood XD This includes two guys in a house who are the block watch captain (I've known since I was 10), two women who I've known for at least 5-6 years, and a guy who just moved in next door (never want to see him wearing his banana outfit again ;_;). So yeah.... Just wanted to post those few random things XD

I am mostly asexual. I say mostly, because I have a boyfriend and we do have sexual relationships which I enjoy, and some people seem to believe that if you have sex, then you're not asexual. But while making love is a great part of a stable relationship, it's not something I really need. If my boyfriend is there we do it and it's fine, if he isn't I do without it and I'm just peachy. Him however... let's just say he's in serious withdrawal if he doesn't see me for more than two consecutive days xD
Some just blame it on him being male and me being female, but I think it's an extremely narrow way of seeing things. Being female does not equal having no sex drive, just like having males does not equal jumping on everything that moves. >.>
As for coming out? Well, let's say my family doesn't buy the 'I'm asexual' thing =p

Or at least, that's always been my understanding. Demisexuality is always a possibility as well.

Oh my gosh! You don't know how happy I am to see this and to see you included asexuals (in the italic text)! One of the reasons I've been away from the forum for a bit (besides the fact I don't have an interest in neopets anymore... anyway) was that I found out that I am asexual and AVEN (Asexuality Visibility and Education Network) has sucked me in. I didn't mention it in my "I'm back(?)" thread ntwriters.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=newbies&thread=45316&page=1#2129118 because of other reasons, but yea. The two podcasts and the other forum bits I mentioned (including the newsletter) has to do with AVEN. Wow, it's really odd to me for some reason to be talking about sexuality on NTWF... XD Probably because I used to spend a lot of time here along with neopets and what I liked about it was sex wasn't really mentioned often. Well, let's say my family doesn't buy the 'I'm asexual' thing =p *High fives other ace* Hello! Before I saw your post I was wondering if there were other asexuals on this thread. I agree, that is very narrowminded. >_< Just look at my mom. (She is very sexual, more so than my Dad and (maybe) my step-dad) That stinks about your family, that and the worst responses thread on AVEN make me feel lucky that so far my coming out has been pretty good, Except for a few things from my Sister and my Mom... like hormone testing. It doesn't help that I'm hetero-romantic in that sense because my mom mentioned "having a 'full' life" with my future husband/boyfriend... ugh sex ≠ love. Anyway, you can add me to the member list. *goes to read through this thread* EDIT: Sure, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't! :3 This is a discussion about sexuality, and that includes asexuals, by my figuring. Want me to add you to the list? I should also point out that straight people, anyone really, can be added to the list xD It really seems to just have turned into a list of people who are gonna chat here frequently or be willing to take PMs. So far the only people I'm not adding are the ones who seem to be suggesting they'll just lurk around. Which is also a cool thing to do <3 Sure, add me to the list. I'll also accept PMs, though I have more personal experience on the asexuality front than on the GLBT front. I'll do my best however. Sock you are ace to? What have you done on the asexuality front? Feel free to PM me. Now, I said I was bisexual, to make it simple. But on the bottom scale of This Page(Most detailed scale I could find), I am a 60/40. I know there's more to say, but I just don't really know yet (I've only really figured out I was bisexual for about a week or two before this thread was made.) Soyeah. I'll update you guys later if you'll listen to me... Ah, the Kinsley scale. Hmm, actually the asexual symbol is based on that... *will get into it if people are interested... I feel like I'm mentioning to much asexual stuff* How about the Don't ask don't tell news? >______< I'm glad McCain didn't become president, jerk filibustered it if I read the article correctly.

I put up a facebook status. >.> I'll admit, I'm never entirely certain what to do to celebrate it or whatever. Although last year when I put up a facebook status one of my relatives found out for the first time that I am gay, which, um, was kind of interesting. XD
Anyhow, happy Coming Out Day, everyone!

Nice. I posted one, so far I only have two likes, and one is my sister, the other is another asexual. :/ I also now have to work till 7 insted of 5, so I have much less time to make more statuses saying more infor. And more time inbetween my initial coming out.

I celebrated National Coming Out Day by coming out to my mother, which was fun. In the "it feels like someone dropped their paper shredder in my stomach" way. But she took it fine, like I figured she would. Hugs and good feelings all around.
Now I get to live in that awkward let's-talk-quietly-about-mundane-things-as-we-both-process-this phase. I am curious as to how long this will last.

I am curious as to how long this will last. Aww, still that is great that she accepted you! My day went great! Much better than I thought. Here is what I posted on AVEN on what happend: This is the responses to my facebook status (only two friends commented on it (so far) and only three non-ace people liked it: My Dad, my sister, and my friend M) Still, it was amazing (under spoiler as it is long): Then I had a nice long chat with D! And before this I saw her new status.... she came out as bisexual!! I wonder if I inspired her... Anyway, since it's personal for her I will only post one or two nibbits that she probably won't care about me sharing: "hi! Im proud of you " "yep You and I are like opposites then, lol" (Opposite sexuality she means, bi=sexual to both ace=sexual to none) "I know. D: So, as my polar opposite, I must ask what it's like. You know that people are going to assume you're lesbian" (she meant this in a good way [she doesn't think I am], and she is right) And now, comments I got on coming out on DeviantArt: (they are talking about a aven cake plz account, I made a plz account of :cake: ) EDIT: New response on DA! THIS IS GREAT FOR THESE REASONS: A) During day of silence, when I was still new at knowing I was ace, when she typed to me that she was participating for her LGBT friends, I said they were missing a letter *facepalm*. Anyway, she typed "what letter" and I said asexual. She then typed something along the lines of "LOL isn't that lack of sex drive" something like that. B) I thought she was ignoring me (paranoid me) because I posted a link to the asexual podcast I'm in. I didn't say in the DeviantArt journal that it was about asexuality, but if you clicked the link.... C) She didn't post on my Facebook status update. Also at work I wore a purple shirt, my ace flag bracelet, and purple nail polish.

Sock you are ace to? What have you done on the asexuality front? Indeed I am! Not a whole lot, really. Just trying to raise awareness and um... existing? It's nice to see other asexuals here, though.

Cool!! Haha, that's still awesome though! Raising awareness is great. It is nice to see other asexuals here, I agree. (I'm curious, do you have an account on AVEN?)
