Oops, didn't mean to derail. I was trying to back Nova up on that point, sorry if it came out wrong. :S

*brandishes pompoms* That there sounds like fightin' talk to me... Ooh hooo... bring it on. But I don't know how the Adam and Donna topic even came up. XDDD I mentioned their name, only because I said they sold their company to Doug Dohring. And then I think someone else said that A&D are still doing an NC-like thing with their current company, which I don't think anyone else said they didn't. :B oooh okay XD like i said in my post, I was kinda tired and I probably picked up on the Adam + Donna point and thought there might have been some debate.. but it looks like that debate wasn't there. XDDD

I don't think it's dying, it is in decline. I just don't like how it's more kid orientated and not as teenager-fun anymore. Plus my goals keep dying due to inflation so I'm not motivated like before. I only go there now for bank interest, when I used to be there for hours. But, things change.

Honestly, I'm not sure. Neo's population has been on the decline for some time, but the remaining members seem to be fairly dedicated, and the NC mall appears to be thriving. So I can't see Neo going under in the near future. ...Wait, there were people who liked the LDP? I would agree. TNT seems to have realized how distant they've gotten and are trying to reconnect - hopefully it will help rehumanize them to the community.

Neopets, in my opinion, just isn't the same experience that it used to be. To me, the Neopets that I used to know is already dead. XD

I'm rather with Killix on this. xD I stopped playing Neo a long time ago and I only go on now for bursts of nostalgia or when I happen to feel like it. When I do, I don't feel any urge to stay; like Komori mentioned, the economy is insane and you can barely win anything from anywhere anymore. I go on to leaf through the NT, look at the newest worlds, and marvel at the changes that took place while I was programming Facebook games (ironically ) and then I go somewhere else.

Hmm, I'll say that it depends, although I'm more inclined to say that it's on the decline rather than say that it's dying. Much like Pokemon, Neopets is still thriving to an extent, in a sense. However, both internal and external factors are playing a role in this decline.
In terms of internal factors, you've got a poor customer service (which tends to tick people off, especially when dealing with frozen accounts) and a certain group being alienated (the battledomers) with barely any updates while another (the game players) gets a lot of updates. That, combined with a 'predictable' season (Daily Dare, Altador Cup, Games Master Challenge) and the lack of plots (although some site events acted more like a plot than a site event) is probably turning people away. The economy does play a large role as it is disproportionally out of whack, making goals sometimes hard to reach, thus discouraging the player.
And now we reach the external factors. One of the biggest external factor is the Internet itself. When Neo first started, there was no Twitter or Facebook and positive word of mouth for the site went viral, in a sense. As the Internet became better or expanded as the years went on, so did the number of options, thus shrinking the word of mouth as the Internet became 'fragmented'. The Internet also changed with the addition of those social media sites in recent years. There's also the age factor, which Neo is partially to blame when they started to make the site more kid oriented. People's interests change over time, so as they get older, they may not be interested in Neo anymore and go to another site.
*looks at the wall of text* Okay, this is what I get for being a business student, I'm probably over-analyzing the situation.

and in any case, i don't think most of the blame should go to tnt for driving people away, it should go to all the imbeciles who play it; i have come across some of the rudest, most insolent people i have ever met in my life on neo and really, they need to grow up, find a bridge and get over themselves - it's only a game ^__^ Absolutely. One thing that I might add is, with the age of the site, maybe some of the newer members are daunted by the older snobs who won't give them the time of day on the boards- still happens to me sometimes- and by the absurdly high prices on just about everything. Some of the other users can make the site less user friendly. I think Neo can more or less survive so long as we have hope and try to improve the parts of it that we can, like being kind to the newbies and not trying to deliberately drive prices up on items. Some of the 'accessibility' is the faults of the users, not TNT. If we call 'abandon ship, the site's sinking' and all of the NTWF leaves.... then, yeah, Neopets is going down. I wonder what would happen when the sites 'dies'.... would that make it possible for those of us with horrible dial up connections to RS Draik Eggs? That would be kind of awesome. Not gonna lie. There's also the age factor, which Neo is partially to blame when they started to make the site more kid oriented. People's interests change over time, so as they get older, they may not be interested in Neo anymore and go to another site. Another thing I agree with. If you take a look at the media these days, kids are already exposed to a lot of sex, drugs, and violence before hitting middle school. I think TNT should lay off a little bit with the filters and stuff- I got a warning for saying 'screw' on the boards. Screw, people. And in defense of Neocash- really, I can't believe I'm defending this- if it weren't for that, we might have to start paying to play like WoW or something. This world will always cater to the rich and that's fine with me, so long as I don't have to shell out anything if I don't want to. That's my two cents, I guess. I'll probably go down with this ship just because I hate the thought of losing mah babies. *snuggles them*

Neopets, in my opinion, just isn't the same experience that it used to be. To me, the Neopets that I used to know is already dead. XD I agree that Neopets has lost that magical touch that made it special, and that the old Neopets that we knew is certainly gone. However, I still love the francise, and I am not likely to leave the site in the near future. Now, I still have this hope that Neopets could have a 'renaissance.' By that I mean I would like to see the site recover a bit of that magical quality that made it so popular in the first place. I'm quite aware that Neopets will most likely never be the same as it was in olden days, but I would like to see something that would get Neopets out of this state of decline. What do you think? Are my hopes realistic or am I being too optimisic?

I wonder what would happen when the sites 'dies'.... would that make it possible for those of us with horrible dial up connections to RS Draik Eggs? That would be kind of awesome. Not gonna lie. See, I never really imagined that it would die in that way. I always thought that it wouldn't be all of the users leaving... but that it would be the company who owns Neopets looking at next year's predictions, and--seeing a downward trend and analyzing their economic records--deciding to close down the site. But the question for me is how would it happen? Would we get any notice so we could save any info we need or contact any people last minute? Like those world-is-gonna-end-due-to-some-catastrophe-we-only-have-two-days-left movies? . Or would it be sudden, like it one day going poof? Maybe instead of closing it down they would sell to another company who would change it to make it more "popular"? Anyway, interesting to think about .

Or maybe that's just me being a dramatic pessimist again. I'd really rather the population dwindle than see the site drastically change. Again. Post number 400 for me! Whoo hoo!

Viacom selling Neo to a different company. They did buy it for 160million, so I doubt they're gonna just close out something they bought so much for... But use decline, of course, definitely has a huge issue on it.. after all, if no one's playing there's no money =P

If the Neopian Times ever goes, then it'll be the end for me on the site. If the NT went down, Neopia would lose a part of its spirit... the creativity and community that has developed around it would be displaced. I really hope the NT survives.
