Ooh, guess I should pluralize those and fix the numbering >.> I keep thinking that it's counted the otherway with the top rank being 3 and the bottom one being 1... Thanks for pointing that out In that case, you may also want to change the Command Class description so it says you need to have obtained first rank.

Somewhere in the middle of the NTWF oceans....
*A small craft comes down from the sky and the pilot boards the weewoo then hands a message written on paper to Fraze. It reads as follows*
Dear Fraze. There were some last minute complications with the Bike while it was being packed for transport. I am now in some time in the past that doesn't keep track of dates, but apparently has a post office that survived until the time you are in now. They didn't understand at first when I told them to deliver it to the year 2009 but told them it would be many many many moons past their death and someone would figure it out eventually. I can only hope they don't loose this between now and then. Or... then and now? Hmm... anyways... until I can be retrieved you are in command of SF. You can keep the job if you like when I get back. I was never too fond of paper work...

Leoness woke up with a splitting headache in a tight space, that after some light examination seemed to be some kind of janitor's closet. A little lightheaded she stumped out into the hallway on the main ship of Spacefleet. People who were normally doing their routined jobs stopped and looked at her like she had just appeared from thin air. Some of the faces she recognized... faintly, is if from a dream you try to hold on to before it slips away. Others were totally strangers to her.
"So uhm, that was quite a party we had last night, huh?" she grinned sheepishly, knowing full well that there had been no party and that was not the reason why she had woken up in the closet.
An officer came up to her. He seemed familiar. "Leoness?"
"Yes... yes I believe that is me." She looked down upon herself; still wearing the medical officer uniform with the Spacefleet emblem on the chest.
"You've been gone for a year. We...", he looked away as if to try and find the best wording "thought you were dead, since Commander Strife never returned."
Strife... Her headache became more agressive.
"I'm back now... from whereever I've been." She tried to shrug off the past because just trying to think about it made her head feel like it was gonna split in half.
"So, did anyone fill in for me... or is the spot for Chief Medic still available?" She sent the marine a reassuring grin.
*hint hint* =D

I'm new to this whole guild/rp business, but I love space-themed stuff. Could you allow a novice to join?

That shouldn't be a problem, Ivie. ^_^ The first thing you could do is post in the General Guild Persona Thread with information about the character you want to roleplay as.

Sir! Medic Ivie reporting, I request to join your fleet as support staff. I've worked as a field medic for 5 years on Earth, and 6 months in space warfare.

Thank-you sir, you wont regret this. Where are my quarters located? I'd like to get ready to start work. Welcome, Medic Ivie, glad to have you with us. Your quarters are in branch 8, level two, section 4, room 212. We've just received a very large number of evacuees from the planet, many of whom have suffered injuries of varying degrees. Please report immediately to the medical bay. Depending on how our current situation plays out, we may be sending you planetside at some point, but don't worry about that now. I wish you could have joined us under better conditions, this will be a trial by fire.

Anyway, what with the Guild Meeting Thread Hunty just started, I figured I'd try something I remember wanting to do but kept putting off: Spacefleet worldbuilding. If there are any Spacefleet members still wandering about, please show up and contribute. Basically: if a laser rifle only does as much damage as a shuriken/crossbow bolt/sword slash, how the heck is it more technologically advanced?
It's at least partically because laser rifles and power packs are easy for Spacefleet's mass production technology to create. You can charge a power pack for hundreds of shots and give a few to each soldier. The packs would be smaller, lighter, and easier to carry than arrow quivers and ammunition clips for chemical propellent (i.e: gunpowder) weapons. The rifles have few moving parts, so they're less likely to jam. They don't require as much maintenance as other weapons. They're sturdy enough to serve as bludgeoning weapons as needed. Finally, they're cheap enough for Spacefleet to make that if one is destroyed or lost it can be easily replaced. Oh, and it's easier to teach someone to shoot a rifle then to draw a longbow or swing and block with a sword. (Tactics are another matter, but it's not like that isn't the case with other weapons.)
Of course, none of this actually matters to the people with their boots on the ground, because nobody runs out of ammo ever and lower manufacturing costs is unlikely to matter to people who are trying to kill you. Also, there are apparently a number of alien races running around the galaxy. We should probably figure out a few of them and what they think of the NTWF and Spacefleet. The term "bugs" does not refer to any one species, but is used for a kind of pattern that shows up on a surprising number of worlds. It would seem that lots of places had some equivalent of bees and ants (drones/workers/warriors with a queen), which grew to be giant sized and now wander in large hordes across the surface of the planet trying to attack/eat anything that moves. If the words "infestation," "swarm," and "zerg rush" come to mind, you're probably dealing with bugs.
Note that sentient insect races are not considered bugs. Bugs overrun settlements because the inhabitants smell yummy and their instincts are telling them to eat the yummies. Sentient insect races would trade for livestock, run farms, or invade other planets for food, depending on temperment, technology, and level of evil. Side note: I'm tempted to bring in the Technocratic Union since apparently magic in the Guildverse responds to belief, but I'm not sure stealing another universe's antagonists would be good. xD

*loud crash* *engine cutting out* I'm back for real this time. I know I say that every time I come back after a long hiatus, but I actually am indeed back. Ienalle: If anyone asks, we shanghai'd her into taking an extended holiday and she got caught up in some crazy mystical magic and fell into some vats of weird stuff and made deals with sentient doors. ^^ Don't forget visiting the Undercircle and getting some Illhvrenan Magitek to reverse-engineer into something that doesn't depend on a user having magic and taking some samples of some interesting bacterium and travelling to Illakue and spending the entire time trying not to get killed. I mean, my lab coats are pretty sturdy and they all have burn marks and holes and stuff in them now and I've gone through Nau Ilhvren Ayine's entire stock of Drocoria.

ZARI!
I bet my hiatus was longer! *pokes her last message* Apparently I've been gone since last November.
Actually... we might be closely matched.
Also, I'm working on updating the welcome post.
